Current I mean, some people want to do it for the reason it’s supposed to be for, but it being all but outright mandatory, well.

@Ricky: I never thought about it like that, but it really can be, huh? I checked out the Mormons for a stint, and I can 100% see that being a reason behind them pushing that.

Tricks them into thinking it was their choice, when it was structured for them to fail.

The Amish doing that strikes me as a psychological way to keep people there. Isolate them > send them out > get culture shock > return to the comfortable rather than figure out a foreign culture.

Ashifa: Shoving/forcing the religion on someone isn't what Christianity should be about. I'm sorry if/that that's what's going on for you.

Izzy groaned inwardly when Trevor instead chose to follow her. She had not realized exactly how fast she was going until she noticed Trevor jogging just to keep up. She quickly slowed until he looked more like he went at a leisurely stroll, though her legs itched to go faster.
“You don’t have to,” she said a little too quickly. She gave him what she hoped was a thankful smile before looking away again, her head still slightly bent. “I mean, I don’t want to put you out or anything.”
“Sorry,” she said, rubbing the back of her neck at his comment about her speed. “One-tracked mind, I guess.” She glanced to him when he gave her one of his typical smiles. She had to admit, it was a good look on him.
She nearly choked when he mentioned “that vampire.” With the events of the past few days, she had all but forgotten that he was the one who had first unwittingly told her about Cerasus. She gave him a nervous chuckle.
“It’d be a good time to try out my kung-fu moves, running into it.” She took a cheesy stance and carefully implemented a side-kick, her back to Trevor. “Seriously, though. I’ll be fine. I don’t want to make you late getting home, or going wherever you were headed.”
“Me? Hiding something?” Mock offence saturated Jevan’s voice and pulled at his lips. “How could you even insinuate such a thing?”
He let out a long sonorous laugh when Illyad finished speaking. “Hypothetically?” he asked through his dark mirth. “Even if I am helping him, I’m not stupid enough to trust the word of a vampire. They’re filled with false promises as strong as their bloodlust. But I suppose if it’s a bone you want me to throw you...” He downed the contents of his glass, removed his feet from the table, and placed the emptied cup on the tray. A wicked grin spread over his face and glittered in his eyes as he stood. He placed his hands on the table and leaned toward Illyad. “My motives go far higher on the food chain than petty vampires, higher than it has gone since centuries before our time.” He leaned closer, the stench of alcohol on his breath as he continued in just above a menacing whisper. “You have no idea what you’re getting yourself into this time, little brother. This is only the beginning.”
With a smirk on his face, he pushed from the table. “Well, this was a nice chat. We’ll have to do it again sometime.” He turned his back on Illyad and started walking toward the opposite end of the room. He gave a quick wave without looking to his brother, then severed the link Illyad had created between them.
Jevan’s lips twitched in a smirk at Illyad’s contemplative glance at him putting his feat on the table. Without removing his feet, he poured two fingers' width more of brandy into his squat glass.
“Concern?” He leaned back in his chair. “Merely an observation.” He swished the dark brown liquid around, but did not drink it.
At his brother’s motive for his “visit,” Jevan tapped a finger against his chin in mock contemplation. “Luc. Luc,” he drew out the name the second time, a sly gleam in his dark blue eyes. “Can’t say the name rings a bell. He a friend of yours? Owe him money or something?”
Go for it.

You don't have to use him. I was just asking to see if that was what you had planned or not because of the timing. I will happily encourage you having more side characters. Balance mine out. xD

Izzy’s trip to the bookstore had gone without a hitch. The artificial lights of the store stung her eyes for a moment, before they adjusted to the harsh brightness inside. The smell of the bookshop--the robust scent of coffee from the small café, the binding and pages of the books--was more intense than she remembered it, even more pleasurable. She paused only once, pondering on how coffee would taste to her now. Though she took a bit longer than she would have liked to find the section she needed, she found it all the same. They had a fairly good selection, considering the size of the store. After quickly choosing what she thought would be best and paying, she headed outside, the ease of the trip there boosting her confidence for the journey back.
But, as life always seems to enjoy toying with its playthings, the universe had other plans.
Izzy gasped, her back straightening at the familiar voice. How did she know that voice? She turned, taking a slight step toward a darker spot on the sidewalk where neither the streetlights nor the glow from the storefront window fully reached.
There, looking debonair, stood Trevor.
Trevor?” she said, opening her mouth as little as possible. She cleared her throat and looked down at the books in her hand. For once in her life, she wished she had not put her hair up so she could use it to better hide her face. “S-something like that.” She shuffled nervously through the books. She needed to get rid of him, but she did not want to be rude, especially since the worst thing he had done was make her have a friend.
“My brothers take karate," she began, doing her best to sound sincere in the lie that followed. "I figure it’s time I brush up on my martial arts skills so I can give them a run for their money the next time we get in an argument.” She glanced quickly down the street. “I should probably get back before my parents start to worry.” She glanced to Trevor, gave him a halfhearted smile, then turned to head down the street, silently pleading he would simply return to the bookstore. “It was good seeing you again!"
*Clears throat.* The important parts. Not extremities. In my defense, it's past my bedtime.
Thank you much. :-)

Heh, no, he isn't. The extremities are covered. xD That's really all I care about there.

By the way, did you plan on claiming Ferdinand as your lizardfolk, then? If you did, you are more than welcome to change his name. That was just the first name that popped in my head, so I used it, thinking he would end up being a side character and that scene would ultimately just fade to the background or something. Glad it didn't, though, and I like how you took it up like that. It was a good kind of unexpected.
Okay, cool.

It's kind of a pre-plot post for the sake of buildup. With the whole crystal, world-in-danger, gotta go save stuff and people and things... We're still doing that, right? Plus it introduces my other two "official" characters, if you will. The ones I have a detailed profile up for.

That's awesome that it's your own drawing! Thanks for sharing. :-)
What could they cut? Maybe start getting just the bare minimum in everything? Lower salaries?

Okay. Glad it's not just me. xD

Interesting. Did you draw that, or find it online?
