That's fair enough, the amount of electricity you'd need would be huge. I'm still trying to go for the crazy scientist weapon type feel, so my final suggestion for a type of rifle before I scrap the entire nation and start over, the Tesla Gun, albeit not invented by Tesla.

There's all kinds of theories that he was within reaching distance of achieving it, and I mean some guy managed to effectively build one in his basement! Bear in mind that my army is absolutely tiny compared to everyone else in the game, so I wouldn't be able to conquer the world solo, tesla guns or not
I'm not going to keep arguing this, so now I need some ideas!

My military is supposed to be made up of heavy cavalry (Night Mares, which hopefully you guys allow), a decent navy (albeit one that is as likely to rebel than to follow orders), a limited supply of quite good fighter planes, some big guns, and ranks of infantry with powerful guns.

Obviously I don't have any tanks, or anything noticeable anti-tank wise, that's where my Reactor Rifles were going to make me even slightly competitive seeing as you all have militaries bigger than my entire population, so now I need ideas as to what technology is available to make powerful enough rifles to be strategically valuable. Any and all ideas are welcome!

EDIT: Railguns maybe?
As a physics student I can assure you that there is no mechanic by which you can put a stick of uranium in a rifle and "make it go boom more," as you say. We have no knowledge of uranium or the means to refine it, no substantial basis in atomic theory and definitely no nuclear weapons, tactical or not. Furthermore, in order to create nuclear fission you need some fairly large devices which could not fit inside of a gun even with modern technology.

As someone who is also studying physics, Uranium was discovered in 1789, and discovered to be radioactive in 1896. In terms of not being able to refine it, we were using it in nuclear reactors as early as 1934 and it was Uranium that was inside the first nuclear weapon! So I would argue we had both the knowledge and the means.

Atomic theory was being explored as early as the 18th Century and by the time frame we're looking at we more than understood nuclear particles as well, but I supposed you can put the discovery of nuclear fission itself in 1938, but that's still in the time frame. And again, this is not a nuclear weapon! Far from it, that's a whole other department as far as I'm concerned, this is simply making use of the vast energy involved in nuclear fission.

In terms of size, fair enough you've got me there, I just used some creative licence to make it practical.

I am no radiation expert or science expert, but I can easily call out BS on this. I know for a fact that uranium needs more power than something a gun or even a heavy ass back pack can produce in order to use as substitute for gunpowder. I'm not even sure if you could get it to work without violently exploding and killing your own guys accuming it would work.

Also, may I ask how the hell did your entire nation get radiation fallout? If that's the case, the entire fucking world would be having some trace of fallout with wind currents and stuff.

In short, where the hell is all of this stuff coming from? How the hell does a former colony have such advanced nuclear tech that they can make guns out of it (that wouldn't work). The rest of the world is most likely just getting started with nuclear reactors and you're chilling over there with uranium guns and nuclear fallout which some how doesn't affect anyone else.

Again, the size of the reactor was my creative licence, so you've got me there. However in terms of volatile, nuclear reactors tend to not blow up that often if carefully monitored, otherwise we'd all have three eyes by now.

The radiation poisoning comes from the elusive "Fall" which I was going to keep mysterious, but as you seem so eager for answers, it was the breakdown and failure of the prototype nuclear reactors that the Republic had just created. Basically a triggered fallout of four or five nuclear fission reactors simultaneously. And no, that wouldn't effect the whole world at all, just look at Chernobyl. That reactor went into meltdown but none of us have radiation poisoning do we? So times that by four or five spread out a little bit and you have a nation caught in the fallout zone but not reaching any of the neighbours.

The "stuff" comes from the rich uranium deposits underneath my little nation that were exploited by the previous owners, albeit poorly, triggering the Fall. This allowed Sophia, one of the greatest nuclear scientists ever, so use the abundance of uranium and vast funding and scientific knowledge at her disposal and decided to have a little tinker.

But I know when the people are against me, and seeing as the responses are starting to slip from helpful advice to almost rudeness when I try to defend myself, I'll take back my nation. Say goodbye to my nuclear happy people, and I'm sorry that you couldn't fit them in.
That makes absolutely no sense. Also rifle sized micro nukes are beyond even modern technology. Why the hell you even want them?

Uranium is used to creates nuclear fission, this controlled nuclear fission energy is used as the substitute for the gunpowder giving the cartridge a huge amount of energy, far more than it would normally gain from igniting gunpowder, and so is fired at a far higher velocity.

They're not nukes for a start. And to put it lightly, they're not beyond our technology, this little reactor isn't going to be able to power a city or anything, it will just be able to give the power for the firing of the rifle. So all you need is a source of radiation, in this case uranium which is handily abundant in my land, and some basic control rods to stop the chain reaction. The first nuclear fission reactor was built in 1942 I'm pretty sure, but it could have been built earlier fairly easily. All that happened was they then spent all their time and money looking at the bomb capabilities. The obvious risk of holding a small radiation producing stick of uranium is the inevitable radiation poisoning, but the sad truth is my nation nearly all already have it after the Fall.

Why I want them is because A) It looks Hella nice and B) Granted you may have to stretch the imagination a bit, but not hugely and I like the idea of it! I could already write pages and pages about this nation and their interactions with their neighbours! And thanks @ClocktowerEchos, but my nation is all burnt up and poisoned with radiation, it's either radiation powered guns or deadly sightseeing

My understanding was that this was 1930s-40s tech correct? In that case the science is already there, proved evident by the Manhatten Project and all the steps in the understanding of nuclear science prior to that! Now the Manhattan project was a collection of some of the best minds with substantial funding, Sophie is THE greatest nuclear scientist with the funding of an entire nation, albeit a scorched one.

I'm not arguing for nukes, as it's obvious that that would ruin the game, what I'm going for is simply something kind of original to set my nation apart. Obviously I defer to the GM entirely, and I'm not attacking you personally, I just think nuclear works best. Thank you for your suggestions in case it gets denied though!
Nuclear reactor!? Cool rifle idea but it might be a little too much.

Thanks! It's more just a stick of uranium stuck in the rifle to make it go boom more! Hopefully it's not too much as the whole idea of Sophia being a brilliant nuclear scientist is kind of my nations feel!

Nothing to see here
I've been RP'ing for several years, primarily on a site thats basically gone dead with activity, so I come to you as someone looking for a new place to RP! I hope you'll have me
You could but I recommend getting used to RPGuild a bit more. NRPs don't tend to be all to friendly to new guys from what I've seen in the past, nothing personal to you of course.

I've been RP'ing all over the place for a couple of years, and actually stumbled upon this after finishing GM'ing my own NRP, so hopefully I'll be able to get to grips!

Thanks for the advice and info @Willy Vereb, I'm looking at the tempting bit of land around Oured Bay if that's available, which it looks as if it is.

Is there still time for me to jump in and join this?
