"I suppose that I would like to aid my fellow gems in the aquirement of new worlds." Sphene replied after a moment of thought. "It may be my job, but that doesn't mean I'm not excited to do it. As for when I am not needed, I'll just have to wait and see what's out there to discover."

She watched Chromite retrieve the stranded gem with relief that he was safe on the ground, though she hadn't really expected him to be damaged. Well, any more so. She felt that it was unkind of her to make assumptions, but she couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong with the other new gems. One hadn't uttered a single sound so far, and the other seemed to struggle with vocalizing. That, and the fact that they both seemed so rough around the edges behaviorally had her concerned.

Pulled out of her thoughts by Bloodstone's request-or was it an order?- Sphene gave a quick nod of understanding and fell in place behind him. She didn't have any questions for now, so she instead went to work testing her function by quietly humming scales under her breath and trying to mentally assemble strategies for the various aspects of planetary assimilation.

Is it possible for some fusions to not have combined weapons? I don't think malachite did, but that may have been due to other factors and it might not have necessarily been impossible in better circumstances.
Dang it, I have a good idea for this contest, but almost no time to execute it with... : C
Sepia Russet - Airship

"Pretty clearly not well, as I think you can see." Sepia joked to the guardsmen, gesturing to the bullet wound on her hip. Despite its smallness, the thing was still refusing to stop bleeding, probably because she'd been running around all day. She leaned back and sighed. Everyone else was out and about, probably finding tons of good info, and here she was, sitting on her butt and pretending that she totally wasn't getting lightheaded.

Suddenly, her scroll started going off. Loudly. "Alright! I get it, this is important!" she grumbled, pulling it out and checking the screen. As she read the message, her aggravation melted away and a heavy weight seemed to settle in her chest. Casualties? What was going on? Could it reach her team, too? With all this in mind, she hardly seemed to notice the pain as she jumped up and tore past the guardsmen to the incoming airship's location.

By the time she got inside, her side was starting to feel warm and damp all the way down to her mid thigh. "Don't look down, don't look down..." she muttered under her breath. If she didn't acknowledge it, then it couldn't be a big deal, right? They all had to report to the infirmary anyway, her and the rest of the team. Where were they, anyway?

"Krysthane, what happened to Ebon and Skyra?" Sepia questioned after she'd caught her breath.

I think it's pretty obvious that I like stirring things up...lol
A small stone smacked Sphene sharply in the back of the head. Whipping around and instinctively covering her gem with her hands, her eyes scanned the surrounding cliffs anxiously in search of whomever was responsible. Should they be a foe, she would need to help the little one to safety. Should they be friend who was merely showering them with rocks accidentally, they were in need of a gentle reprimanding for carelessness. Her gaze zeroed in on yet another gem of the purple kind, this one even more so. He appeared to be in trouble. Or he thought he was, at least. The poor thing seemed to fear letting go of his grip on the wall, despite looking durable enough to land with little issue, or at least slide down. "Are you stuck up there, little gem? You could jump, I doubt that it would hurt you." Seemingly contradicting herself, she drew closer as if expecting him to need assistance.

Suddenly, she could hear a voice. "Ah, she must be my leader!" Sphene was instantly reassured by Aquamarine's words. As instructed, she focused on painting a mental picture of her surroundings, highlighting in particular Stengite's predicament. Soon, she would be taken away from this place to her assignment, and allowed to fulfil her purpose of assisting in the conquering of other worlds. She wasn't overjoyed, no, but she was satisfied.

As Bloodstone approached, Sphene turned to face him, folding her hands and lowering her eyes in respect. At his question, she was slightly startled. Why would her wants matter? She would be sent to where she was needed, not wherever she happened to fancy a visit. Was this a trick?
"I don't think I understand...are you not here to escort me to the Aquamarine so she can give me my assignment?" she questioned uncertainly.

With every word thus far, the quiet bell-like sound was renewed in the area.

I'm assuming that whatever gems take out of the ground is what gives them life, personality, a form, etc, because Peridot says in Gem Drill that Peridots (the actual "gem" part) are made out of peridotite.
