October 23rd, 2034 - Hong Kong Shatterdome - Operation R.E.A.L Currently Underway

"Raleigh."

The voice of Mako had the new Marshall turning his head around and stop his staring out towards the empty air field. He had been waiting for the helicopters that would bring him the Rangers that were perviously stationed at the other Shatterdomes across the world. His blue eyes focused on her dark brown ones. Having been in her head recently, he already knew what that look of concern meant.

"Mako... It's too late to change my mind." he said, turning fully to face her.

"I know. I am not here for that." she said as she approached him. Her hand outstretched and in it was a black scarf and an umbrella. "It's snowing." she said as he reached out to take the scarf first. His eyes looked up to the sky as he only did begin to realize it was snowing. Dropping his head down to look at his feet, the light dusting of snowflakes showed him he had only been out of it for a short while.

"Thank you, Mako." he said, taking the umbrella next and leaning down to kiss her cheek. He turned away from her then. "You should--"

"There is something else." she said, stepping over and standing next to him. "You are afraid. Uncertain. Even though you told me I cannot change your mind... you still have doubts."

Sighing, he would lift the umbrella and cover them both. "No. It's not that. I'm taking a risk here. I'm leaving most of the world vulnerable by bringing these Rangers here, but at the same time, having one or two Jaeger pilots in one Shatterdome is not a good idea. We've been spreading them too thin, and now look at where we are. We have only twelve Rangers left, not including You and Me."

Mako was quiet for a long moment. "And Jade. she said eventually, looking up at him. "She has been searching for you all day. You cannot possibly avoid her forever. She want's her Jaeger back."

"She's not ready." he said, pinching the bridge of his nose.

"We both know, that is not true. It has been a year since the accident--"

"Mako, we lost four Jaeger pilots in that deployment. Had she followed my orders, they would still be here. She's too reckless."

"You cannot put the blame all on her. She had the Bridge located, and she--"

Turning to Mako, Raleigh placed his hand on her shoulder. "We don't know that for sure. Her memories are all messed up from that day, and on top of that, we have no way to confirm. We couldn't track her position and she still can't remember anything. All we know for sure is she's messed up in the head and we're four Rangers short."

Mako shrugged the hand off. "And what kind of affect do you think that has on her? You took her Jaeger, blamed her for the deaths of her comrades, all the while she cannot remember anything from that day. She's been working hard to get back what she lost and--." The sound of approaching helicopters turned both of their heads towards the air field. Sure enough there were three copters, each holding one or more of the Jaeger pilots that were now to be stationed here and placed under Raleigh's command. Mako gripped the clipboard that held the names of the pilots that would be arriving today, with more expected to come over the next few days.

"For now, she's to test how good these pilots are. See which one's are drift compatible or not. No doubt some will be upset they will be given different Jaegers and partners. But that's the way we need to do things now. Maybe... maybe after everyone is settled here, I can see if she's ready." he said, sounding unsure. Reaching out to take the umbrella, Mako looked up at her partner. "You need to tell her that. Not me."

Stepping away from him as the helicopters landed, she looked back at him once before preparing to greet the new arrivals. Meanwhile, Raleigh's head was left uncovered against the cold and heavy snowflakes that began to fall. Watching Mako's retreating back for a moment, he wondered if all these decisions he was making now were really the best. Sighing, he turned and made his way inside to find Yanmei. He would dwell on those things later, in the seclusion of his office.

Yanmei Long - Training Room - Hong Kong Shatterdome

"Come on. Get up, get up, get up."

Reaching down to where her current sparring partner lay winded from a blow to the abdomen, Yanmei would wait impatiently as the teen boy swatted her hand away and struggled to his feet. "That was a foul blow." he complained.

"Kaiju dont follow the rules. Neither do I. Again." she said, raising her sparring stick again.

"Look where not following the rules has gotten you now." the boy sneered and rolled his eyes at her. Pouting as his three friends in the back started to laugh, Yanmei would place a hand on her hip, a thumb slipping comfortably into the hem of her yoga pants. "Yeah that's very funny. Shut up, else I'll make sure none of you become Rangers." she said to them, though she smiled afterwards. The boys were all no older than 15, so she didn't take what they said to heart. Regardless, whatever rumors or thoughts anyone had about her, she had apparently brought them upon herself.

"Miss Long." the voice of the Marshall brought her head around fast, her long hair whipped around as well before settling at her hips. "Marshall! I was looking for you!" she said dropping her stick and grabbing a towel to wipe at her head. Looking breifly at the boys who gretted the Marshall as well, she said to them. "Go get something to eat and rest up. Meet me back here same tomorrow." They all nodded eagerly and left to go get some breakfast. When the two were alone, Yanmei cleared her throat as she let the towel hang on her left shoulder. "Marshall, I uhh--"

"Yanmei, save it. he said, crossing his arms at his chest.

"Please, call me Jade." she said as he continued right on speaking.

"I have a task for you to do right now. Some of the other Rangers are arriving now, and I need you to bring them in here and observe how they fight. We need to see which Jaeger will be a good fit for them as soon as possible. We don't know how much time we have until a Kaiju attacks, and with only one Jaeger to use, it could be dang--"

"I actually wanted to talk to you about that." she said, stepping over to him. She kept her distance just in case she smelled sweaty. She didn't want to offend. "I wanted to ask you if I could--"

"Jade. We talked about this. I dont think you're ready yet." he said, sighing afterwards as he saw the hurt look on her face. It took her a long moment to find her voice. "I... its been a year, Marshall, since I've been in my Jaeger. I've been doing more simulations and training... I'm not like I was a year ago. I'm 20 now, not even a teen or anything anymore. Like, i'm fully mature and everything! At least give me a chance to--"

"It's been over a year now, and do you remember anything. Do you remember exactly what you did? Because I don't want you to rely on me to tell you just how badly you screwed up." His voice began to raise as he spoke and Yanmei clenched her hands into fists. She said nothing. "Well? Do you remember?" he prodded.

Shaking her head, Yanmei looked away from him. "No. I don't remember all of it. Just pieces and images that I cant place together. But I still think, maybe if I just get back out there, I'll remember something more." she said, her voice clearly desperate.

"No. Until you regain your memory, I wont allow you to..." he trailed off and started walking towards her. He kept going until he walked past her and she didn't turn even when his steps stopped. "Also. You should know, I put Slayer on the list of Jaegers the other Rangers could be assigned to." he said. That caused her eyes to widen and she turned to him. "You- you cant do that!"

"I'm the Marshall. I can do whatever I want, technically." he said with a sigh, leaving his back to her.

"No! That Jaeger is mine! I named him, I chose his new paint job, I was there when he was still in construction. I know all there is about him. Every weapon, every dent and chip in his paint.I am the only Ranger who should be allowed to pilot him and you know it!" she said stepping over to stand in front of him. "Please Marshall, don't do this to me. This... being a Ranger is all I have. It's all I know how to do."

"It's been done, Jade. You need to get ready and go out to greet the others with Mako. Now." he said in a dismissive manner. A long silence passed between them, neither of them moving an inch, their eyes stared into the souls of the other. "Are you ever going to forgive me?" Yanmei asked, a single tear slipping down her cheek and her voice barely a whisper. "I need someone to forgive me... else I wont be able to forgive myself."

"I've already forgiven you. But right now, I cant trust you to follow orders out there. I'm sorry." he turned and started walking away. "Mako will likely be bringing them down the elevator to this level once she's shown them their rooms. Either go and meet them or wait for them to get here. Either way, this discussion will be continued later."

With that, Yanmei watched as her Marshall turned the corner and she heaved a heavy sigh. A hand rose comb through her long black hair and she began to put away the supplies she had used to train the others. She wasn't sure if she could go out and greet the other Rangers, knowing that one of them could take Slayer away from her. Instead she sat on the floor and sipped her water bottle and waited for Mako to bring them here.

Weapons

S-11 Pulse Launcher:

A stripped down version of the I-19 Plasmacaster. This weapon makes use of Mako Mori's upgrade designs for the Plasmacaster to create a scaled-down, rapidly charging rifle version for use on smaller Jaegers. While not as powerful as the I-19, typically delivering only one third of the hitting power, the S-11 only requires a three second charging period before firing. Its smaller capacitor system is extremely limited, only capable of firing a single shot before being fully discharged and requiring upto 73 seconds before reaching firing potential once more.

WMB-H-118 Harpoon Warhead:

An upgrade to the AKM which replaces the explosive warhead with a pronged spearhead designed to anchor itself within a Kaiju, allowing a small Jaeger to trap the target while larger, more heavily armed units close in for the kill. With a retractable polyduranide cable system the Harpoon can be recovered and reused in the field without requiring return to base for reloading, but due to the space requirements of the cable storage and motor system only one operational device can be attached to a single-pilot Jaeger, fully replacing its standard WMB2x90 package.

WMB3x30-P Anti-Kaiju Plasma Launcher

Lacking the chassis space to fit the full sized WMB2x90, smaller Jaegers were refitted with an upgraded plasma warhead system, allowing for greater long-term damage potential to their targets while using fewer individual delivery systems. Upon impact the warhead begin a cascading plasma reaction, which remains in effect for upto 20 seconds after delivery, causing extensive internal damage. While proven effective against most targets, the WMB3x30-P only uses four launch tubes, typically mounted as pairs either side of the Jaeger's chest, each equipped with three rounds for a total of twelve round per system.

V-PI EnergyCaster

The predecessor to current Plasmacaster technology, the EnergyCaster instead used shock burst of electrical power to overwhelm a Kaiju's nervous system, much in the way a tazer would incapacitate a human, but on a much larger scale. Able to function in five different modulations, each requiring a progressively longer perido in order to fully charge, the EnrgyCaster can incapacitate a target allowing more heavily armed Jaegers time to move in for the kill. Repurposed for use on the newer, smaller single-pilot Jaegers this weapon can act as a highly effective disruptive weapon system.

Gatling Chest

Designed as a cheap and easy solution to longer ranged combat with the Kaiju, the Gatling Chest mounts severeal high calibre cannons in place of the more traditional AKM system, allow for more peresistant, if far less damaging attacks. The Gatling Chest is mianly used for holding actions, where the priority is to delay the target rather than destroy it, such as when evacuation procedures are ongoing, heavier Jaegers are moving into range or targets are required to be captured alive for study and analysis.

Rail Gun

Originally designed for conventional warfare the Rail Gun was quickly repurposed and redesigned to function as part of a Jaeger's arsenal. While potentially capable of delivering grievously crippling blows to its targets at long range, the Rail Gun has very limited ammunition (12 shots for twin-pilot Jaegers, 9 for single-pilot models) and requires absolute stability to achieve a successful hit, making it an unpopular choice amongst most Jaeger designers and pilots.

Wave Laser

While lacking the hitting power of most munition based and plasma weapons the Wave Laser is easily controlled and targeted due to its persistent attack style and long battery life. Capable of being set to a variable range of focuses, from wide wave dispersal to precision cutting beam, the Wave Laser is a highly adaptable battlefield tool, if not the most effective weapon.

Brass Knuckles
A set of temperature-resistant brass-steel compound casts set around the joints of each finger extension, the 4.211 "Brass Knuckles" greatly add to the impact potential of each punch.

Sting-Blades
A pair of twin retractable Assault Mount 3.25 "Sting-Blades" laced with carbon nanotubes that channel thermal energy at temperatures over three hundred degrees Fahrenheit, wounding and cauterizing Kaiju in close combat.

Cryo Blasters
By ejecting super-coolant from shoulder-mounted cryo tanks, the Cryo Blasters allow a Jaeger to perform a "sub-zero suckerpunch" freezing and damaging the area of impact when the punch manages to hit its target. The ejection process normally takes between 3-5 seconds to prepare before a blow can be struck, normally forcing the Jaeger pilot to pin an enemy before activating the system. The super-coolant may also be ejected directly from the tanks to flash freeze anything directly in front of the Jaeger, but such a maneuver drains all available super-coolant, disabling the system until the Jaeger can return to base to refuel.

Tesla Fists
Z14 Fists are powered by Tesla cells, allowing for a formation of simultaneous electric arc impulse, with force up to 415kv into a Kaiju, usually to the effect of smashing both fists to induce maximum current at the sides of a Kaiju's head, usually stunning or incapacitating most targets.

Each level has surface access via elevators, stairs and maintenance ladders for movement around the base and emergency evacuation.</sup>

Mechanical components and equipment are stored in the Engineering Workshops on level 2, medical supplies are held in the Medical Bay on level 3, food supplies are held in the Mess Hall on level 5 and ammunition and munitions supplies are held in the Armoury also on level 5.
2 - Although the Jaeger Hangar descends the full depth of the Shatterdome and has accessways on every level the two main access routes are on level 5 for the hangar floor and level 2 for maintenance access and Jaeger transferring to the Engineering Workshops for refit and repair.
3 - While previously dedicated to only the maintenance and repair of operational Jaegers the Engineering Workshops have now passed under the banner of the Research and Development Department in order to create new technologies for the latest Jaegers in the field.
4 - Evacuation points are available on every level of the Shatterdome, but as non-essential personnel are confined to level 4 during combat operations a dedicated drop shaft leading to a sub-level monorail is accessible on this level for rapid evacuation of the majority of the base's personnel should it be required.
5 - Main power core access is located on level 5, however the core itself is set into the sea bed beneath the base, so that it may easily be flooded in case of catastrophic containment failure.}

I don't know if you've heard, but the world is coming to an end? Now, where would you rather die? Here!? Or in a Jaeger!?

Set in the time of 2034 and saying The Bridge was destroyed by the blast from Gypsy Danger but was reopened so we continue fighting the Kaijus. The blast did stop them from coming for a while and set back their category levels, but they are as relentless as before. We fight still using the Jaegers, but there are two different kinds now: Drift and Single models. The new single models alow for smaller, faster, and more maneuverability. The cons are they are less durable and have less power. Most times the are used for recovery missions and escorts through dangerous zones or paired with Drifts. The Kaijus, as said before, are coming a lot slower only 10 in the past year.

We haven't been perfectly safe in our defenses and have had some close calls, but in the year since they started coming again we haven't lost a singel Jaeger. Cities have been damaged and Jaegers have been pretty beat up, but we have always come out on top so far.

Here is how missions are going to work for the Jaeger Program. When we receive a reading of a kaiju then, depending on how many and how big, we will choose the most qualified Jaeger or Jaegers. Your qualification will be determined on how many Kaiju you have taken out, as well as how much damage to a city you have caused. If a fight is brought to a city that will count against you as well as how much damage you cause there. The more fights you win at sea the better your ratings will be.

With there being two models of Jaegers there are also two types giving you three choices: Amphibious Drift or Single, Air single. There can't be Drift air models because ther are simply to big to fly, and we can't have flying robots the size of skyscrapers. Deal with it.

The location of the Rift is now too deep for us to read, but we have a good guess by charting the paths from where the kaiju have come. The searches of the areas have come back negative so far which means we are just shooting in the dark right now.

When you first appear in the RP you will be asked to take a test based on your fighting skills. After your are chosen compatible for either drift or single Jaeger's you will do a simulation of 5 Kaiju fights. You must win at least four out of five to become a Jaeger pilot. If you are deemed worthy then you will recieve your own Jaeger along with your drift partner if you are chosen compatible. Jaeger's are chosen from all around the world and stationed in the Hong Kong Shatterdome so you can be sure that you will be matched with the best Jaeger for you.

(I advise those who will be assigned Drift Partners, that you get comfortable doing collaborations. I reccomend using titanpad.com for lengthy posts such as fighting, where both will need to be present, as it can drag on for a long time if done post by post. Regular interactions can be done within the IC easily of course.)

Do not be afraid of the test. The only way to fail is if you try your best to fail.

Rules:
1. Depending on how quickly the rp moves, if you are gone for lengthy periods of time, you may miss a lot and struggle to catch up. Therefore, if you are gone for 3 days without prior notice to me (just tell me. you dont really need a reason, I know life is tough) you will receive a PM from me asking if you want to continue. You will then have 2 days to reply in which case afterwards i will have no choice but to remove your character. But remember, if you tell me before hand that you will be gone, you have an unlimited amount of time before you return. Also keep in mind that you need to try to put your character in a place where the others wont be stuck if you leave. Stick him/her in their room to sleep or something.

2. This is a Casual Roleplay, which means that in terms of writing a post, they need to be at least a paragraph. To me, a paragraph is at least 5 complete sentences. (That does not include any dialogue you have in your post.) It may be 3 sentences for you, but then again, its not your RP, is it? So, please do not be a spam poster. If you are not going to post a decent reply to someone, just don't bother until you think of something more to say.

3. In regards to fighting: if there is a Kaiju attack, first off unless your a Veteran Ranger, your not going to be able to take it down in like a paragraph. You need to write out your fight as if you were actually a noob trying to fight it. Talk about the struggle, if you got hurt, etc. I'm not the one who will write the fights, you are. It's fun and gets everyone else excited so please put some actual effort into a fighting post.

4. In the CS Tab, you will find that characters from the movie are going to be in the RP (for example Mako, Raleigh, Herman, and Newt) that you are free to take control of at any given time. (That is unless someone is using that person. If Mako is helping a recruit with their simulation, she cannot also be having lunch with you at the same time.) I will occasionally use them to add more depth to the RP, but I AM NOT the voice of them. Do not expect me to always be Mako and Raleigh just cause i use them for character development. I'm only one girl.

5. If you have any problems with someone in the RP (like if you are a Dual Jaeger pilot and your partner had been gone for a number of days) please PM me and I will help you resolve it. No point in starting fights in the OOC. (That being said, this is another exception to the first rule. If you leave for a number of days during a Kaiju fight and you stall a lot of people in the RP, you will be killed. Simple as that.)

6. Please have fun! I've put a lot of love into this RP and i want you all to do the same! I'f you are a new recruit and you see the IC has like 300 posts, don't worry. There will be a way to fit you in without any hassle. You wont have to read it all.
