They say it's about the journey, not the destination. This is true of many things. Pizza delivery is not one of them.

TFW you know what you want to happen but the words aren't cooperating. Why is plot suddenly so much harder to write?

Glad to see I'm not the only follower of Lord Cato, god of wisdom, on this most auspicious Superb Owl Sunday.

Bio

I am an adult, though I don't usually act like it. I'm a voracious reader, and not overly picky about books. I am artistic in a variety of areas, including music, drawing, writing, and sculpting. I have a minor obsession with dragons, and love the color violet. Fantasy is my preferred genre, be it past, future, urban...as long as it has a fantasy flavor to it. I also like scifi, mystery, and some horror. I am crazy, and I like tormenting my characters. But I don't bite...much. ^.~

"Good work, Dancer. Now...time to have some fun. Let's go after Raptor, shall we?" Between the two of them, Sparks and Dancer shut down the Horst's comms and locked Arrish out of the controls in the cockpit, then moved the Horst next to Raptor, pulling out the multiform rod in spear configuration and stabbing at Mema-Ka's frame. As they did, Sparks moved the Guinevere up and back, to hide once more behind the nearby building. "Sorry about this, Arrish." Sparks knew that the other pilot couldn't hear him, but he apologized all the same.

Sparks

Sparks swore softly to himself as the three drones he'd transferred to the Cockroach stopped responding. He had not expected the sheer amount of firepower that came from Sleeping Thunder. Aurora must have overclocked her guns. The explosion of both Sleeping Thunder and Mother Goose was massive, shaking the battlefield -- and did the sim just lag? Jeez. However, the loss of those drones left him with just Epsilon. Through the feed of it he saw Horst come into range. "I suppose we'd better make a move, huh," he said softly. "Dancer, it's time to go. Get the Horst with Epsilon."

"Affirmative." Dancer smoothly flew Epsilon off the roof of the building it was perched on, and put it low to the ground as it headed for Horst. The drone was small, hopefully small enough not to be noticed in the thick of battle. As the drone moved, Sparks moved the Guinevere as well, over and forward just a little, so that the Horst would be in range for a full hack.

"Attention Argent, this is Gwen. I'm going to try to gain control of the Horst. Just be aware."

Rhylaen

Rhylaen would have said something nice to Zel-Ghin, too, but he spoke before she could -- calling her a cheater, and saying she stole his victory. Her wide eyes narrowed, and she spread her wings partway, baring her teeth. "Not 'clear victory' if no win. And not cheating! Especially not for war. If 'made for war', you must know." She settled her wings back against her shoulders. "Besides. Bad certainty is easy for beating. Makes you reckless." She paused, watching him pull out his game. "You should watch. We are team -- and understanding teammates important for fighting. Important for surviving -- for all."

She turned back to the screen just in time to witness Aurora and Sleeping Thunder unleash a rain of fire on the field. It was an impressive display of power. But Griff and Shiva had moved away, as had Angel Zero, leaving Sleeping Thunder open before Mother Goose's charge. That was bad. If Mother Goose took out Sleeping Thunder, that would probably win Mango the fight. All that would be left would be mopping up the other, smaller framewerks. Not good at all.

Weiyuan was clearly excited to find someone that knew sign, and when he showed Ziotea the scars on his neck she understood why. Poor guy couldn't speak. But he certainly could sign -- his fingers flew through the words, almost faster than she could understand them. I learned as a child on the streets. Easier to rob the adults if you're not yelling your plans. I kept at it because of...a friend. There was a distinct pause in her words. She didn't really want to get into a discussion about Ryo just now. The wound of leaving him was still too fresh. She'd gotten past being unable to sleep for lack of his arms around her, at least. Thinking of him made her wonder...did he miss her as much as she did him? And that made her wonder just what kind of a terrible person she was for departing without a word. Ziotea shook her head to clear the dark thoughts away. She'd had no choice. She wasn't safe in Ba Sing Se anymore. At any rate, I'm fairly fluent. I know enough to get by, at least.

Ziotea had to admit that Jin, the guy in the piperunner outfit, might be right about not getting too close to containers. If humans could act like that, there was no telling how the local wildlife might be affected as well. Still, she'd gotten six synergy batteries out of it, so no harm done...this time.

The young earthbender wrote down his name instead of saying it. Weiyuan. Did he not speak? Ziotea didn't recall him talking last time either, just giving her a thumbs up. She passed the other two water bottles to Jin. "Here, take one and give the other to...whomever." But even as she did her attention was still on Weiyuan. "Not a big talker, are you? I'm Ziotea," she said. Then, going out on a limb, she did the name sign and fingerspelled her name. My name is Ziotea. Pretty much any child living on the street in the Lower Ring picked up some degree of street sign language. If you wanted to coordinate across distance without yelling, it was invaluable. She'd picked up enough to be fluent. She and Ryo used it a lot with each other -- the memory made her heart tighten painfully. When they didn't want to be heard, when they were somewhere quiet, when Ryo just didn't feel like talking. A sad smile crossed her face. Her hands flashed through a few more signs: Or you can call me and ended with the sign for red into the zigzagged finger of a spelled Z.

Rhylaen

Rhylaen bit back a cry of pain as she disconnected. She took a moment to reorient herself as her helmet came off, shaking her head to clear it. Then she clambered out of her pod, and made her way over to where Serah was doing the same. She offered the young woman a hand to shake. "You did good," she said, with no evident animosity over the events of the fight.

Astolfo's request got an eyeroll and a huff of laughter at how he initially phrased it. "You're a little young for me, but I'll take a hacking backdoor anyday. Dancer! Spin up Zeta and transfer it, Gamma, and Delta over to the Cockroach." Sparks quickly agreed to the secure connection request.

"Greetings, Cadet Bugatti." The warm, feminine voice came over his comms. "Hold a moment while the drones connect, please." There were two sets of muffled thunking noises as Gamma and Delta latched onto Cockroach, followed belatedly by a third thunk that indicated Zeta's arrival as well. "Drones attached."

"Alright, you're good to go, Astolfo. I'll keep an eye out for likely targets to hack. Also it seems Atty took down Dragonfly, so we don't have to worry about the jamming field anymore."

Rhylaen

As a Tevranian, Rhylaen was used to keeping an eye on what was above her. Still it was rather a surprise to see a human thinking in three dimensions. "Am under attack! Is Atty!" With Logic Diver down, she was about to be a liability on the field. Her sensors picked up Angel Zero coming in from behind. Better make this count, she thought to herself. First a shot at the descending frame with her Arklight Thunder, to disable its energy shields, then a shot with her Marker Light in marking mode so that others would have a better chance of hitting the attacking frame. As she attacked, she reconfigured her Energy Wings and Shield Generator to better protect her front facing. She tried to dodge backwards, away from Atty and closer to Sleeping Thunder. If she could keep Atty busy long enough that the others could take Serah out, it would be a worthwhile trade.

As the Dragonfly and its jamming field moved away, Sparks' Epsilon drone gave him a better view of the field. There were two main conflicts at the moment -- Serah and her target, and then the fight around the downed Logic Diver. Squid was also in trouble, but with the virtual ground shaking under Sleepy's barrage, he wasn't sure if he could do anything for Zel-Gin. Actually, if Elora tapped out, then maybe he could do something with the crippled frame -- using its Hyperwave Relay. It would all depend on how things played out. For the moment, he moved across the field, and Dancer moved Epsilon with him.

Ziotea hopped out of the Kyoshi. She'd introduced herself to the others before they set out, but she'd spent the ride quiet. It seemed like the others mostly knew each other, whereas she only recognized the sand bender from the disaster at the market the day before. She wasn't sure about having Tan-ming's men with them, either. Still, a job was a job, and if this was the price she had to pay for safety...she'd take it. She waited for the all-clear before venturing forward towards the gray minivan. Ziotea's salvager sensibilities said there was good material to take here, but that wasn't why they were there. Still, she checked the cooler and the messenger bag, looking for anything interesting. She found half a dozen synergy batteries in the cooler, which she scooped up and put in her bag. The messenger bag held a letter which she also took, to peruse later. Then she took the four water bottles, separating them so she could keep one and distribute the others. She offered the second one to the young earthbender who'd finished off the largest of the creatures the day before. "Here. ...I don't think I ever caught your name."
Rhylaen

Rhylaen knew she wasn't covering much of the battlefield with her jammers yet, so she moved right then forward, noting Atty's position ahead of her and the bastion deployed -- probably from Mother Goose. She noted the location of both on the map for her allies as she slipped forward into cover. Peeking out, she saw the Squid -- far too close for comfort. She looked at her map -- the Shiva and Raptor were just barely out of range of a burst attack. That just left the Horst to worry about.

"Shiva, Raptor, Horst -- I pulse jammers, blind Squid. Watch out." She triggered the pulse, following it up immediately with a shot from her Marker Light in marking mode, to make the blinded frame easier to target.

((Moving to U15 then up to T15, attacking with a sensor-blinding burst of radius 4 and marker light in marking mode. If she has to step out of cover for a moment to shoot, she will, moving to T16 and then back to T15))

Sparks couldn't tell where most of Team Apple was. He was out of contact with more than one member of his own team, although he himself wasn't yet in Dragonfly's jamming field. Keeping his cloaking active, he moved the Guinevere forward to be right behind the building in front of him. He'd hoped to have range on one of his opponents by now, but they all seemed to be keeping their distance. "Dancer, spin up Epsilon and put it atop the building in front of us. I want a view of what's beyond cover."

"Roger that."

((Moving forward one to M12, putting drone 5 of 6 in O12 atop the building))
Rhylaen

The pictures -- from her opponents and from her own team -- were mere distractions. At Lorenzo's signal, Rhylaen started moving slightly left, then forward. She spotted Atty approaching from the opposite side, and quickly ducked behind the next building before her. She wasn't ready to face the fast frame alone. Instead, she activated her jamming system, covering a large area in communications blackout. She knew that with Logic Diver on her team, Strike Team Apple would still be able to communicate in that area.

((moving to U12))

Sparks

Sparks had to smirk at the prank photos. He suspected Griff would be incensed. "Deploying drones," Dancer said, as four of Guinevere's six drones left their housings. "Four active. Reserving two." Two of the four drones clung to the Guinevere's frame. The other two she sent to ride on Mother Goose. "Goose, I'm sending you repair support in the form of drones. Don't move too far away, or they won't be able to function," Sparks told Stella. He then activated his cloaking system, and moved forward around the first building blocking his path. He could see the Shiva almost straight ahead, and pinged its location for his teammates.
