Kaliflur's tail twitched in annoyance, as she was stopped and told to turn around by a Dark Saiyan, of all people. She folded her arms and hovered in place, an annoyed look on her face.

"I came to seek the descendants of Vegeta, and I'm not going to let a Dark Saiyan stop me. I am surprised to see one of your kind here. Is there no planet your won't ravage without honor, let alone the one that was guarded to the death by the last Saiyans of the homeworld?

Guess I'll stay out of this, then. I know nothing about the actual science of any weapon, except maybe poison. I'm a chemist.

I think Red Dwarf's a good compare. Laser cannons exist but they're expensive, and much rarer than in something like Star Trek.

Personal/handheld weapons are still more or less entirely ballistic (shoot metal) and you'd be hard pressed to find somebody with a laser pistol/plasma rifle.
