Rowan Blackwell

Name: Rowan Blackwell

Image, or Description... or both!: (since I can't find a good picture I'll describe it) Rowan is on the shorter side of men standing at only about 5'6. He has a girlish face and doesn't seem capable of growing a beard. He has dark brown hair and green eyes. He is slender again for a soldier and is slight in the shoulders. His feminine appearance is actually because he is a woman. Sneaking her way into the military as a man.

Age: 16

Personality: Given her disposition as someone who is hiding her identity she is very secretive and tries to make sure to keep her distance physically from many of the men. She comes off as someone very shy about his body since he never bathes or uses the restroom in front of the others. Her real personality that most likely none have seen is that she is cunning and manipulative. She has her reasons for what she does and she will do whatever it takes to meet those ends.

Role: She is the new recruit cabin boy setting sail for the first time.

How you got into the Navy: She forged documents (but kept he real name since it was a unisex name) that she had already attended training and was sent to this ship.

Experience with the navy: Since she is half step from a stowaway she only has second hand experience with the navy. However prior to this she had studied extensively the knowledge she would need. How you ask? By visiting the local pubs and taverns around ports and getting stories from the drunk men. Will this lead to gaps in her knowledge. Perhaps.

Skills: She is handy with both the pistol and the rapier but she is especially gifted with navigating by the stars.

Shortcomings: Obviously her secret is her biggest burden. She is weaker physically than the other men which is why she has to rely on finesse in combat.

Anything Extra: She only gets seasick during that time of the month so she has to keep making different excuses as to why she is sick.

Doctor Bright Began with the Navy and his Family is Navy which is my explanation of how an actual Doctor found himself aboard; his Grandfather and father served under Admiral Baron Hawke at Quiberon Bay against the Royal French Navy as the Second in command of the Third Rate HMS Resolution an action that saw him receive commendations and his own command of the same ship his own Captain beached for his injuries.

How Arthur got into the Navy: A King’s letter Boy Arthur entered the service of the crown at 12 years of age handed over by his aging grandfather a former Ship’s Master and Knight of the Bath his only support forced to part with the lad as his health fell.

Experience with the navy: Doctor Bright began his career as many such a young man of letters aspiring to become a ships officer learning the trade of sail till at age 14 he was found to have a knack as a Loblolly Boy and was given as an Apprentice to the Ships Surgeon.
At age 17 Arthur’s time before the mast saw a two year hiatus while he attended college at Oxford using a portion of his Inheritance and a letter from the Navy Board Barber-Surgeons' Company and Admiralty’s blessing. Advanced in his studies compared to the other’s attending school Arthur was quick to graduate at 19 after which he returned to the Mast prepared to continue his service.
Assigned as a Junior Surgeon aboard a First Rate He was quickly advanced to Chief Surgeon only 20 when his former mentor died after he had a leg carried away in a fierce exchange.
Recently assigned to HMS Courageux (3rd Rate 74) his tenure was cut short by the new Captain’s preference for a surgeon with as he put it “A face of weathered Experience and not of a young Choirboy”
Beached he was able to find a berth aboard the HMS Plymouth trough a friend at the Board Barber-Surgeons
Fresh off the Dock he begins this as his first voyage aboard

Skills:Surgeon, Apothecary, Navigation, and Fencing

Shortcomings:Arthur’s greatest Shortcoming is his Baby face which means many have doubts of his skills and some many jealous of his attraction of women. (Either women the other officer had their eye on or a relative such as sisters and worst daughters)

He also carries the mark of helping support the Spithead Mutiny Sailors only protested by his title and the fact he was only active as a Doctor seeing to the health of the men who were on strike. (As a doctor he agreed with their plea for more sanitary conditions along with more palatable rations.

Oh and not sure if it is a short coming or asset but Arthur has a beautiful singing voice

Oh and anyone who checks on Doc Bright's rep will hear he's a fast amputation expert and many men are alive because he cares about those under his charge and is an able bodied seaman's friend his patients surviving more often than not.

Although rare, actual studied doctors did find their way into the navy so I'll take it.

Sorry to be a prig but the Napoleonic War was 1798 to 1815 LOL Typo can be fun

Sorry I count the real war as starting at the Nile though some might go as far back as the beginning of the French revolution

Of course there was the Anglo-French War from 1778 - 1783 which was a result of the French supporting the American Revolution but fought under the banner of King Louis XVI...lets face it the English and French had been fighting a limited kind of war for half a century by the time of the Battle of the Nile

The world is in chaos, Napoleon is methodically taking over Europe. Our men are campaigning all over the world, defending the safety of the earth. We the men of the Royal Navy are fortunate, the infantry sleeps outdoors, and carries a cold tent, meanwhile we are like turtles we bring our homes on our backs.

The Ship, is a Full Rigged Fourth Rate, 29 guns in each side and two facing forward. Each Gun putting 9 pounds of Steel down range. (Front two are heavier 24 pounders)
