as soon as he retreives his dagger a portion of the wall slides open for him to continue onward, leaving him not needing to dismember skeletons anymore

John cautiously enters the tunnel and makes sure the way is clear before continuing on just a tad quicker.

a way still doesn't open, leaving him trapped in the room until he realizes what he's changed to cause the way to become locked to him

John plays back the events in the room over and over in his mind. He had entered the room and the door had closed behind him. Then he had faced the skeletons with the axe. Could it be the skeletons that were the problem. Did he need to dismember them again? Or maybe? Was it his dagger. John picked up his dagger and began dismembering the skeletons, hoping that the door would open soon.
John looks around for an exit but it seems that none has opened. He sits and thinks for a while before he realizes that maybe it's the axe that's holding him there. He walks back to the middle of the room and tosses the axe in the air and runs out of the way. The axe floats in the air, and John waits for a way to open.
John twirls out of the way, receiving only a nick on his shoulder that he doesn't feel due to the adrenaline. John rolls and cuts off the skeleton's legs then finishes the monster with a blow to it's skull before standing up, panting.
John realizes that he's going to have to fight the skeletons with his axe. He knows that they move slower than him so he begins to run around the room until they seem to have lost him. He then charges a skeleton and swings at it's back, slicing clean through and leaving it's severed body crumpled on the floor. He quickly swings his axe through the second skeleton's shoulder, leaving it swordless until it's head is sliced clean from it's shoulders. John then rolls to dodge a swing from the third skeleton before standing up and beginning to circle the monster.

it is oddly lightin his hands and seems to be warm, resonating with the glove as the skeletons around the room rise and reform to make 3 combatants, grabbing their weaponry and approaching him, slowly, their weaponry dragging noisily along the ground

As the skeletons rise John watches, gripping the axe. He draws his dagger with his left hand and chucks it at one of the skeletons while he begins to back up to keep the creatures in front of him.

john finds an empty room with an axe floating in the middle, various bones and rusty weapons litter the floor, all of them human. as john enters the door shuts behind him, closing him into the room with no where to go

John makes his way to the middle of the room, eyes wide at the floating axe. He grasps the axe and pulls it out of the air to admire it more.

as he steps in he triggers a trip wire and feels the wind and hears the sound of darts hitting the wall just slightly in front of him and to the right, coming from three mouths to his left and forward a little

John gasps as he hears the darts hit the wall and looks down. Sure enough he had stepped on a trip wire. He crouches down and begins to crawl through the tunnel, keeping a close eye on the walls to make sure there are no mouths, and a close eye in front of him to make sure there are no traps. He eventually comes to the end of the cave and stands up then steps outside.

John Royhart awakes to find himself having been lowered into a cavernous room with red rock and roots covering most of it, moonlight coming from a skylight and a tunnel at the side of the room. he finds a burlap pouch next to his hand, gloved in a finger less, oddly warm, leather glove that's his size despite him not remembering putting on such a thing. a dagger is shoved into his belt next to his journal, the dagger barely large enough to reach mid thigh with a slight curve to it, next to it hangs a waterskin

John looks at his gloved hand, confused. He didn't remember putting it on. But he figures that this is the challenge his father was talking about on the way to the forest. John grips the dagger, ready to draw it at a moments notice. He looks around the room and sees a tunnel. He immediately begins hopping from rock to rock, making a game not to touch the roots. He eventually reaches the tunnel and slowly steps in, careful not to set off any traps like the ones in the tunnels of his father's castle.
John had quickly forgotten the incident with Bellatrix. It had been swept away in Quidditch games and studying. However, his father had been working constantly to help the Ministry keep the peace and it came as no surprise that his father would be on the team that would be guarding Hogwarts. John was almost positive that he had volunteered. When September 1st rolled around John and his parents ushered his siblings into Platform 9 3/4 and then proceeded through the column as well.

"Goodbye dear," his mother said as he gave her a farewell hug. "Don't forget to study. And brush your teeth too."

John laughed as she made her last comment, hopping onto the scarlet train where his father and sister would soon follow. He quickly found a compartment in the back with his cousins, Albus and James, Fred, Dominique, and their friends Lorcan and Lysander. Most of the conversation was about pranks and such but they soon began talking in hushed tones about Bellatrix and her appearance at Diagon Alley.

"Well you saw it didn't you John?" Fred asked, his eyes wide with interest.

"Yeah. I did. I was with your dad and she just appeared. Went crazy on this one kid until she got blasted with spells. I wonder what she was doing though. Showing up like that." John said, his eyebrows knit together in concentration.

"Who knows and who cares! We're going to the safest place in the world." James said and just like that the conversation was returned to things like Quidditch and classes and spells.
