Personality: Acturus is generally reserved and quiet when in a new situation or around new people as he tries to analyze everything. He is sociable enough to appear perfectly friendly when greeting another diplomat or senator but will start analyzing and calculating quickly to assess how they are relevant to him and Shael.
He, and Shael as a whole, do harbor some hard feelings about the Imperium because of their time as a spacers and their inactivity towards the Ohm interference. He has no real plans of open rebellion but the cracks in the Imperium are showing and he is a man of ambition.
Biography: Acturus was born to the previous Baron and his wife as an only child. Complications with his birth had rendered his mother infertile but it suited the family just fine. He was groomed to not only be a leader but also an intellectual. His interests fell into more of an interesting but less useful form of xeno biology. He managed to convince his father to allow him some aquariums where he would keep aquatic and insectoid species even though he was well educated in most fields from basic engineering or astrophysics. He was only a few generations removed from their spacer origin and the culture reflected it. They were very conscientious of resources even though they had a whole star system to utilize. Initially the colony grew slowly, while Acturus was still an adolescent the colony had hardly grown beyond natural breeding. He knew this would relegate their colony to a border world of little influence rather than his grandfather’s dream of a wealthy and strong state.
Acturus began sitting in on his father’s meeting when he was only sixteen and observing how weak his father actually was. Bowing and begging for scraps from the traders and neighbors. It was enough to have the colony scrape by but ultimately it would cripple them. He began making demands of his father, gently at first, requesting reports and figures of their resources and wealth compared to those of their neighbors and began pouring over the documents learning everything from annual steel production to size of the fleet and began work to establish Sael as a dominant power in the local region.
Before long he was devising strategies to not only grow Shael but making near by colonies respect or fear Shael. He tried bringing these strategies to his father but nothing came of them as his father was a coward when it came to confronting those he viewed as superiors. a few years passed and Acturus was now an adult, each year he and his father had long and raging arguments about the future of their home, it was obvious that the scant trade and crippling deals where bleeding Shael but nothing was being done.
Acturus began making deals behind his father's back, managing to purchase a cargo ship and a crew to run it he sent them out with the express orders of making agressive deals. they ran into some initial resistance but were bringing back qreat wealth and tonnes of materials each haul, where their counterparts were bringing back just enough materials to break even. Acturus never told his father however and simply grew his personal wealth and waited.
An upstart colony nearby with less than reputable morals began contracting pirates, to steal wealth rather than mine or trade. The pirates they hired made a grave mistake and hired them to attack some of the Shael transports one of which Acturus' father was aboard, he was killed for half a ton of rice. When the news reached Shael Acturus was deeply sadded, but at the same time relieved, he could finally take Shael to its potential. In the first year he fought long and hard in meeting after meeting brokering trade deals and mining rights.
He was eventually successful making Shael a hub of trade. This shift also brought many immigrants, spacers who decided to stop traveling, new people from surrounding colonies, aliens trying to make a name for themselves. in only a few years Acturus began setting his sights on expantion. The first colony ship launched to Ral when he was just 39. Over the course of the next 100 years he expanded Shael territory and colonized planet after planet, and built dozens of space stations and built a reasonable military to protect his borders from the Ohm pirates. During this time he managed to pull himself away from Imperial control and found an official SAS, shortly after this he demanded action from the Imperium to bring the Ohm pirates to heel, he was given assurances it would be taken care of but it never happend. The imperial inaction cemented doubts in acturus about the integrity of the Imperium. Fortunately however the Ohm did not grow significantly since his father's death, backstabbing and internal strife kept them weak. Acturus never forgot Ohm's actions however and began militarizing further and converting one of the large drifter ships into a grand military vessel, although it took several years it was large and powerful enough to maintain a full scale ground invasion alone, although many smaller craft followed it as protectors.
Just after his 158th birthday he sent his fleet into the Ohm territory and launched a full invasion of the surface, for revenge and to protect his territory. Although the colony was small the gangs where well armed and suprisingly organized and held the invasion at a stand still for months. Only in the last two months had the fighting ceased and a formal message to the Imperium been sent declaring that Ohm was under Shael control.
