Why do people say "Tuna Fish sandwich"? That's like saying "Chicken Bird sandwich."

Bio

I never know what to put in these things. I'm just a guy who likes making stories. If I'm not roleplaying, I'm writing my own stuff or just creating random characters. I'm particularly fond of superheroes but I also really like character driven stuff and tend to dive into the details of a character. No character can be too detailed as far as I'm concerned.

@Subject Zero holy shit now there's someone I haven't seen in a while. Hiya.

You just haven't been looking hard enough. :)
@NarcissisticPotato Hiya Taters. This looks fun. Got room for little old me?
@AcerRo Don't worry about him. That ass deserves to suffer a bit.
Nate is an asshole and you're a nerd. Honestly, I can't say which one's worse.

I'm kidding, sorta...

:)

I always feel like an absolute asshole after writing Nate's posts. Sorry @Xandrya and @Rawk, you're stuck in a car with a fucking maniac behind the wheel.

In other news, I'm going on a pokemon hunt with some friends today (Yes, I'm one of those people.) so if you don't hear from me for while, I probably chased a Pikachu into traffic and I'm likely lying in a hospital bed somewhere.

...What have I become?
Nate was visibly shocked by JJ's refusal to help him but even more so by the fact that she used the "It's not you, it's me." line, like she was breaking up with him. After he had let himself look vulnerable. Admitted to being in a lot of pain. She still wouldn't help him. Sure, he had more or less been a complete asshole to her this entire time but still...He was like a kid who had spent the afternoon drawing dicks on the walls and then got upset when he was told he couldn't get ice cream. A thought flashed in the back of his mind that suggested maybe JJ was right. Maybe his wounds were too much for her to take. Maybe her smaller frame couldn't take the weight of the injuries like the military trained body he had. But he quickly shut that thought down and attributed it to the concussion. She was a terrible person. That's what he told himself anyway.

In the space of only about five seconds, Nate's face shifted from his usual happy-go-lucky expression to shock, then to anger, then confusion, then to a look of deep thought and eventually settled on just completely expressionless. His face showed no signs of emotion at all. Not even his usual smile. It was almost creepy.

Nate heard Vin suggest that he let someone else drive but took a long second to reply. Eventually, he said in an almost robotic tone "No thank you, Vincent. I'm fine with driving...Driving this fast moving, two ton box of steel and glass." It was only then that he started to show any sign of emotion again and that sign was a slightly creepy smile that was soon made even creepier when he started softly chuckling to himself like something was really funny. He wouldn't actually crash the car. He was annoyed with JJ but not so much that he would kill himself to make a point. But it sure was fun to think about.

When Jennifer asked Nate if he was okay, he tried to smile but it ended up looking more like a wince than anything else. "Just partied a little too hard with some friends." he informed her, leaving out the part where he almost died in a car crash. Nat wasn't really one for admitting when he was in pain. It was behavior that went all the way back to his childhood. His parents were generally too busy working to really be around which meant that Nate's older sister was usually one taking care of him when he was young. Nate was aware of how much Ellie had to deal with on her own so would usually pretend to be just fine even when he wasn't. Eventually, he developed the attitude of self sufficiency that he had today. He acted like being any less than 100% was the worst thing possible. Like he somehow wasn't doing a good enough job of holding himself together. To Nate, admitting that he needed help was almost as bad as admitting defeat.

But when he shifted in his seat and he felt a jolt of pain shoot through his abdomen, he had to reconsider his tendencies. JJ did have a point after all, though he was loath to admit it. They were likely heading into a shitstorm and neither JJ nor Vin were trained to deal with the kinds of situations they might find there. Nate was, and it made very little sense for him to go in so hurt. Especially when the woman sitting next to him was capable of healing him. He knew what he had to do but he hated that he had to do it.

Swallowing down all of his dislike of JJ and a large chunk of his pride, he said "Alright I'm hurt pretty bad. I definitely have a couple of cracked ribs and some bruising and may or may not have a concussion...Maybe some internal bleeding too." He paused for a long moment with his mouth open as he fought to wrap his lips around the words he was about to say. "I guess...if you could do that thing you do with your hands...The healing thing. Not the other thing...It would be...beneficial...To me..." He paused for another long second like he was going to say something else but then closed his mouth. He just couldn't bring himself to use the words "Help me."

@Remipa Awesome Don't worry about it. Just enjoy your vacation and we'll see you when you get back. :)
Speaking of character sheets, I totally forgot that I wanted to up Nate's age a couple of years so his military experience made more sense.

I originally had him at 23 but...He joined the military right out of high school so basic training plus three or four years in the field plus lets say about a year out of the military should make him about 25 or 26.

Yeah, let's go with that.
When the steering wheel seemed to lock, Nate furrowed his brow. An expression that looked odd on the face of someone who was usually always smiling. Nate didn't like losing control of any situation and that was literally what was happening here. It took him a minute to realize that it was more than just a mechanical problem and he didn't notice the message until Jennifer pointed it out. It was only then that things clicked into place for him. Someone was pulling their strings. Trying to direct them like puppets and Nate didn't like that at all. If he hadn't already been planning to head to Harlan, he may well have turned the car around and gone in the opposite direction, simply to spite whoever it was.

When JJ asked if Michaels was behind it, Nate didn't even give the idea a second thought. "Freddy's more sneaky than actual smart." he practically muttered as he tapped at the message with his finger. "I'm surprised he can work a toaster."

Nate's finger unconsciously came to rest under Elijah Craigh's name as he split his focus between that and the road. He did know this man. They had met once or twice. Even shared a beer or two. He had aslo heard stories. Tales of the whirlwind of shit and death Craigh had kicked up on the battlefield. The man was a fucking death machine. A servant of the reaper himself...if you believed the stories the grunts in the military told. Nate was inclined to believe they were exaggerated tales but at the same time was reluctant to get involved with someone with such a reputation. He was not a fan of Eli Craigh. But then again, the answers he was seeking seemed to lie in Harlan with Craigh, so Nate had little other choice.

All at once, Nate felt the adrenaline of their escape wear off and his body began to ache again. With his left hand on the wheel, he wrapped his right around his ribs and winced. He vaguely heard JJ and Vin say something about food. Food was the last thing on Nate's mind right now and he had no plans to stop, no matter how much they begged. When Vin told Jennifer her hair smelled nice, Nate looked visibly repulsed by the comment. But it only got worse when Vin suggested he should have joined her in the shower.

"I swear to god, if you two start making out, I will drive us straight into the nearest tree" he informed both of them, only half joking.
