Dr. Emett was already making a mental note to not replace the mirror until she had left, just in case it happened again. Again, he completely understood and sympathised as he didn’t know how he would personally react. Thinking over the cost once more he knew it was high, of course it was nothing to what the Maydestone wealth was worth, but he had an inkling his father wouldn’t be too happy. It was an act of kindness but if Capsain did this every time someone was hurt or struggled their fortune would be gone.
How long it takes to go through? You mean the chat with your father. Dr. Emett thought but he did not voice his opinion, not to the prince of course. “It’s fine, I trust they will be sent when ready.” Smiling as he looked at Caspain watching him go into thought when he had spoken about releasing the girl with no one to collect her. It was concerning as to what would happen because if no one collected her, if she wandered the streets she’d stick out like a sore thumb. Especially as he imagined the lost expression on her face due to the amnesia. Soldiers could mistake her for homeless and they had none in the city, if you couldn’t afford it you were thrown to the Scourge. It was as simple as that.
Coughing at his sudden proposal he shook his head slightly, “I doubt your father would allow it, he is a kind and fair man, but she is a stranger. There could be a threat there, what if she came to hurt you? Use you. Your father would find every excuse under the sun.” He might not… well… Dr. Emett couldn’t confidently predict the Kings actions as they could change, he could be saying now that the King would do such a thing but then he could just let it happen. It was so unpredictable, but he nodded when Caspain said he would ask his father, that seemed a more realistic expectation than just saying she could stay with him.
“Your father should take his medication around half nine, ten-ish in the evening. If you want the best results ask him them, the medication relaxes him and that may have an effect on his answers.” Or less of an outrage. “I warn you though Caspain, taking responsibility for another with no memories might be difficult. Especially as she starts to recall them, we don’t know who she is. If her parents are even alive.” Sighing he felt he had to warn Caspain about the possible bad times, she had already smashed a mirror. “It will be quite the emotional rollercoaster, for instance say her parents aren’t alive. She could remember the pain, the sadness of it but not know why until she pieces back what happened. Patience will be key.”
Holding up his hand as if to say one-minute Dr. Emett scurried towards his office and dipped inside for a few seconds before walking back out clasping a bottle of pills. “Whilst you’re here you may as well take your fathers next prescription, I’m sure he would appreciate it.” Smiling as he handed over the medication to Caspain, “It’s the exact same as what he is taking so no need to change any routine.” Glancing at his watch he checked the time taking note that visiting hours would be ending soon, “Did you need anything else?”
