Description: The Erinyes (also known as the Furies) are female chthonic deities of vengeance who tracked down egregiously impious wrongdoers with their hound’s noses and drove them to insanity. They are Wraith-like Divine Spirits from the Age of Gods, with snakes for hair, dog's heads, coal-black bodies, bat's wings, and bloodshot eyes.
Clytemnestra’s compatibility as a Heroic Spirit of Vengeance makes her suitable for invoking the Erinyes as a Noble Phantasm, much like she did in her myth. However, they are not used as a weapon in the traditional sense. Rather, they are treated as a powerful curse. Since their role is simply to torment and hound relentlessly, their victim’s death will usually come as a result of insanity leading to excessive self-harm and/or suicide. In addition, their effectiveness or ineffectiveness is dependent on how geared towards Evil or the Chaotic their victim’s alignment is, with the Noble Phantasm’s Rank receiving boosts accordingly.
After being called upon, the Erinyes will manifest inside the target’s own mind, hence this Noble Phantasm’s classification as “Anti-Mind”. Since they cannot be “seen” by anyone other than the person they’re tormenting, to an outsider it would appear as if that person is “going mad”. However, since the Erinyes and the torment their accusations can cause are still very real, this curse is in no way a form of mental interference Thaumaturgy, therefore Skills or abilities that would protect against such a thing will have no effect here.
Once the Erinyes have found a victim to torment, they will never leave them in peace, even if Clytemnestra herself dies. For somebody to get freed completely from their curse, they would need to first pay penance for the crimes the Erinyes are accusing them of and make peace with themselves. Entering a place of holiness (such as a church) can also force the Erinyes to retreat temporarily.
