You will be with us until They kill you. Or you die of old age, which is next to impossible in our line of work. Millions of people are counting on you to keep Them out of our world. They will always come, no matter how many you kill. It's best to get used to that. Sure there will be lulls in the action, a few months, maybe even a year. But it won't last. Never does. But get settled in, patrol starts tomorrow. We'll get you acquainted with the place.

Oh, one more thing, if you think about deserting, well...

Demons won't be the scariest thing chasing you.

WELCOME TO PURGATORY

So as you might have guessed, from the brief intro and the concept of Purgatory and Demons and the Metallica, this is a Doom Inspired roleplay about people giving up their lives on earth to protect the planet from being invaded and conquered by demons. The entire roleplay will be taking place in the inter-dimensional plane that the defenders have called Purgatory, the bridge between Hell and Earth. Below you will find information about people, the world, the defenders, Purgatory, Hell, and of course, Demons.

The year is 2047. The planet is still recovering from the Demon War that ravaged the planet, leaving over 100 million military and civilians dead. Five years of absolute horror, it can still be seen in cities like Paris and Tokyo, which were some of the heaviest areas of fighting. They came through Purgatory in 2027 and wreaked havoc, no one except a select few scientists had any way of knowing what would happen and they were all killed in the first few moments. It was only through the actions of Dom Marineo after the first year of the war that would save humanity from extinction. Alone, Dom took destroyed the Demon's HQ in the middle of the Bermuda Triangle and killed Satan's Second In Command, Octavios, destroying the Demon army's supply source and morale, as well as taking down an eighth of the demon fighting force with the destruction of the base. 

This action allowed Earth's forces to rally behind champion and drive back the Demons. Without a central commander, many of demon's minor officers panicked and made either rash and foolish decisions or retreated all together, allowing Earth's commanders capitalize on their panic and decimate the Demon forces. With Dom Marineo leading the charge as a morale booster, the Demon forces were driven back slowly, with many mounting casualties on both sides. The closer they got to defeat, the more ruthless and cruel the demons got, attacking the populace with extreme prejudice, many dying a slow and painful death. Eventually the demons retreated through purgatory and humanity was victorious. But much of the earth was in shambles, many major cities in complete ruins. Nevertheless, mankind celebrated their survival with overwhelming joy, hailing Dom Marineo as one of their primary heroes.

Founded in 2032 by Dom Marineo, immediately after the end of The Demon War. Its sole purpose to defend humanity from Demons, wherever they may be found. Known to the common populace as The Defenders, The Demon order is a collection of individuals trained and modified to combat demons, much in the way Dom Marineo was. Though The Demon Order is classified as a military, it is much less formal and uniform than national armies. Though it is required that the Order's Symbol be worn somewhere on the body and it's members are trained and operate as units. The Demon Order takes responsibility of all demon technology as well as defending earth, having a technology branch within the order. Each member is injected with a serum that unlocks the maximum physical potential (Doom Guy from Doom 2016 being the example, able to rip people apart with bare hands and lift up to a thousand pounds and such.) Both Men and Women are able to join and although you don't have to have military or police experience, it is highly recommended and appreciated.

The world is fairly technologically advanced despite the war. Medicine and Treatment has advanced significantly, with diseases like Alzheimer's having treatment with tangible results. Weapons are still ballistic, but the recovering of demon technology allows weapons to have various other features, such as guns transforming into different types of weapons (RWBY style) and different types of exotic ammunition, such as acid and ice rounds. The Demon Order takes responsibility of all demon technology as well as defending earth, having a technology branch within the order. All members of The Demon Order are required to build and forge their own weapons and armor, adding their own personal flair to each. With the recovery of demon technology, armor has changed as well, all Order armor is made with the cleverly named Demonium, a material that is incredibly light and strong, 10x tougher than modern Kevlar and is on the keys to the Demon's success early in the war. It is also guarded closely by the order, as is all other demon materials and assets. 

Robotics and Bionics are also advanced, many households and business being attended by robots. Victims of lost organs and limbs, especially since the Demon War, have a lot more options for full and complete recovery with synthetic organs and bionic limbs. The serum that the order injects it's soldiers with was made by a company called AgriTech and Dom Marineo was the first subject. As stated before, it unlocks the full human physical and mental potential. But it has a catch. 50% of those injected with it die on the spot, suffering a painful internal death as the blood in their veins practically ignites. The skin breaks out in third degree burns and blisters. The pure shock alone kills plenty. The chances of surviving such an ordeal is one in a million. More often than not, it's either a smooth transition or a painful death.

Purgatory is the inter-dimensional realm between Hell and Earth. It's an estimated 750 km long and 800 km wide, estimated due to the fact that it has never been fully explored before, as much of it is still in Demon control. A combination of Earth environments and Hellish ones, you can be walking through a forest and end up in an environment extremely similar to the plains of mars. So similar, that scientists of the technological branch have begun to suspect mars might be linked to Purgatory or hell.

Of Italian Origin, Dominic 'Dom' Marineo was an elite Italian Airborne Trooper captured on a training mission by AgriTech Agents to test the superhuman serum now used on every Demon Order solider. After being injected he was studied for weeks sedated, being the first successful subject. But he woke up and killed everyone in the facility he was kept in. When he learned of the demon invasion, he knew he was one of the only people with the capacity to stop them. And so his story went down in history. Dome defeated the demons and brought his captors to justice, confiscating the serum for a more noble use. Now 48 years old, The Order is bigger than ever, with 2500 people, technological and combat branches combined. All the best in their fields, devoting their lives to protecting the planet.
