The fight was over before it had started. Waylaying a carriage might be easy but it takes a stronger individual to engage in a stand up fight. He limped his way the rest of the fortunately short distance to the carriage and leaned on his sword. The blood ran down the blade like water, not sticking to it at all as it pooled on the ground.

"I think that there are a lot of questions to be answered. The sooner we start, the sooner we can all be on our way."

It might be noticed that he was putting only the slightest amount of weight on the sword, as if making ready to put it to use at a moments notice.

Catcher straightened up, her helmet and mask dangling from one had. She spoke in a softer voice than usual.

"A sorceror I am, and more."

She left it at that. Soulcatcher was many things, as cruel as calculating and as dangerous as her sister ever was. She was also loyal, in a strange way. After a heartbeat she moved to stand to Gilgamesh's right, placing the helmet and mask back on her head and standing at attention. His lack of assent meant that his sense of manifest monarchy was as strong as she believed it to me. She was his subject and there was never any need to say so.

Another was professing to be a king. Was this to be considered a rival or just a pest to be swatted down or ignored?

She smiled behind her mask, turning her head slightly to face the threat. This one reminded her of her sisters husband. Not that infuriating one but the other one. The Dominator. All ego, ambition and malice. Catcher could see it in the way that held held himself. That the world was his and always had been. It just didn't know it yet.

This was a man that would be king, a useful, if shallow kind of person. She reached up and pulled the helmet from her head as she bent at the knee. She spoke in a confident voice. The voice that commanded armies and almost brought the Black Company to destruction.

"My king. I bow to your will."

Think I'm going to do a reread of the source material for my character. I'm sure that I missed something over the 9 books but it shouldn't be anything major.
I might have a revision or two though.

At the order to charge, his blade came out of its sheath in a flash. He picked a target that had their back turned and spurred his mount into a gallop. The horse had been his for a long time and was brilliantly trained for it. As he took his other hand off of the reigns to grip his sword with both it stayed the course.

As he passed by the blade lashed out. Such a long and slender blade was far too light to be used from horse back, but his was both abnormally sharp and durable for all the enchantments worked into it. The tip plunged into the mans back before flexing as Indrau passed and tearing free.

He resumed the one handed grip and cut down another man with a chop to the back of the neck. The momentum of his charge led him past the melee, where he dismounted in a fashion less graceful than that of Tyeathe. His leg did not permit him the range of motion needed for prolonged mounted combat.

Sword once again in both hands, he turned back towards the fight.

Trapped within her own broken mind, deep within the bowels of the Fortress With No Name Soulcatcher railed at the injustice of her situation. She knew the words to release the stasis spell. Hadn't she trapper her own sister in just the same way. If it had been anyone else she might laugh at the absurd irony.

Her own sister had trapped her here. Not to imprison her and protect the world from her influence, but to save her life. With the death of the Godess Kina, however, Catcher was cured of the curse that had plagued her. So now she glared with hatred at all that she could see, the dark cave unchanged in the decades that she had been trapped. Unchanged too was the anger.

And suddenly it was gone. Soulcatcher stood in a modestly crowded street in her armour and helmet. From behind the masked she sucked in her first breath in what really was decades.

And she let it out in a high pitch, girlish laughter and set teeth on edge and sent shivers down the spine. At the startled looks that passed over her she inhaled again and let out a deep throated chuckle as she took her first confident steps. Time to see what the rules of this game would be.

  • Biography: Soulcatcher was a member of the Ten Who Were Taken, sister to The Lady who was the wife of the Dominator. The Dominator, The Lady and the Ten were among the most powerful sorcerers in the world and a force of evil. The Domination, as their empire was known, was eventually defeated by a General called The White Rose. Being too powerful to outright destroy, The leaders of the Domination were sealed away and entombed beneath a barrow for hundreds of years.

When The Lady was eventually released she freed the Ten but left her husband entombed so that she might form an empire of her own. Soulcatcher found and hired the The Black Company, a four hundred year old legendary mercenary company, into her service. They fought a war against a rebel uprising that threatened The Lady's rule that ended with a truly monstrous siege at The Battle of Charm that ended with the deaths of almost all of the Ten Who Were Taken, the decimation of The Black Company, and the annihilation of the rebel army.

At the climax of the battle it was discovered the Soulcatcher was a traitor, working against the empire and her sister. She was tracked down by The Lady and Croaker, annalist of the company, where she was caught and beheaded.

A decade later Soulcatcher emerged again in a place called Taglios, harboring a terrible grudge. The Company had been nearly destroyed and was on a journey to find it's roots and bring its history to an end. She stalked Croaker, now Captain of the company and lover to a Lady that had since lost her powers. Waiting for the right moment, she kidnapped him and forced him to use his medical knowledge to attach her severed head. Eventually Croaker escaped and took the Company back to its roots in Khatovar. Still seeking revenge but unable to follow, she placed herself into the position of leader of the Taglian territory that stretched from the city of Taglios south to the edge of the Plain of Glittering Stone.

Years later and reinforced with soldiers from a place beyond the plain and a Lady that had regained some of her powers, The Black Company defeated Soulcatcher and her armies and entombed her beneath the Fortress With No Name at the center of the Plain of Glittering Stone.

I guess that you're still open? Wanted to do something with a character from this series forever.

— Convenience Store —

Things around the convenience store looked like they were being taken care of, if barely. Things didn't appear to have gone well for the store, however and regardless of any outcome he would have to search elsewhere for food. Maybe a few of the other girls would want to go out to eat after, there was one or two that she didn't recognize.

Copenhagen Star gave her the opening that she needed. Kuroe wasn't a front line fighter, not unless she had to be. It might be helpful to hold the Negari in one place. She stuck the sword into the ground and picked up a luckily unbroken bottle of some sort of soft drink. The girl wrote a handful of words on it before throwing it at the base of the blob.

Flood of Ice

It shattered and encased it in a mass of brightly coloured ice. She snatched up the blade and struck a pose, shouting.

"Go for it!"

— Fort Daelantine —

Indrau turned one of the bodies over with his cane and grunted while listening to the conversation between his captain and the presumed leader of the mercenaries. At the conclusion of Lady Tyeathes explanation he instinctively bared several inches of his blade with his free hand, putting enough of a whisper of willpower into the steel that the exposed runes flashed blue for the briefest moment.

"Something I think we should discuss first would be where this relic came from before causing this slaughter that we see here. We should take a look for any journals or records kept by whoever was in command. If it was being held in the fort then it might have been the objective of whoever these bandits were."

He stepped over the body and faced Alette.

"Unless, of course, these fake soldiers aren't bandits at all and are your own allies that fell under the compulsion of the shard. Maybe your own mission has gone somewhat badly and you feel the need to distract us from looking closer."
