Ben followed along at a discrete distance, not being inclined to introduce himself to the pair that had been fighting so recently. With the deepening snow he tapped Serc, calling up a wind that brushed the snow from their path.

“We should work quickly to resolve things.”

He stopped in the lobby, watching Fran curiously. The mage channeled a half dozen other warrens, looking around warilly. He sighed as the girl smashed down the door and frowned at her. He backed up out through the front door, looking upwards to the top of the tower. There was some sort of upper level up there. He ducked back for a second.

“The other two are already inside. Let’s start at the top.”

He held out his hand in invitation.

The aim of the axe shifted slightly and a more tightly focused beam intercepted the rock, blasting it apart into a cloud of dust. Sonya followed up with another blast in the same direction, doubting it would hit unless her opponent was careless. If anything it might take the unconscious girl out of the fight for good instead.

No need to go easy on her then. But there was still no need to go all out. Not yet anyway. Even a defeated girl could tell others what went on. Sonya ran away from the edge and dropped down behind the building. She let loose another beam that cut through the structure, diffuse enough to blast the front wall out in a hail of shrapnel-like debris.

She continued to move back, attacking with additional destructive beams to make her opponent keep her distance.

Kincaid nodded to Abigail. He was very used to people not telling the whole story. He was fine with not knowing everything as long as he got paid. Unfortunately it looked like for the foreseeable future no paycheck would be forthcoming. That almost displeased him more than not knowing how he had ended up in Japan.

He sighed. “I’m Kincaid, mercenary. I don’t know a whole lot about this time thing but I’ve also no idea how I ended up in Japan.”

He refrained from giving his first name, being much more comfortable with his surname.

“My own world?” She shook her head. “My nightmare.”

Sonya tightened the grip on her weapon.

“Have it your way.”

They refused her offer of surrender so anything that happened would be on them. She triggered Apollyon, letting loose with a beam of destruction. She aimed low, cutting across the roof and front wall, collapsing the structure beneath them. She walked to the edge of her own rooftop and aimed down at the debris while the dust settled.

Indrau followed along with Tyeathe’s renewed assault. He strode forward, battering away at the shield to get through to the target behind it. At this point he didn’t care about leaving her alive to question, this all had to end now.
I'm here!

It wasn't hard to spot her targets and she landed lightly on a rooftop adjuvant to theirs. Sonya wanted no time with pointless banter and raised the Key to drive it into the rooftop. A wave of darkness crashed outwards to draw the trio into an apocalyptic city, inside the Gate of Abaddon.

Ash fell like snow from a roiled grey sky and red lightning lit the clouds from inside. It was cold enough for their breaths to condense in the air and silent aside from the muted rumbles above. The city mirrored the real world, but every building was damaged in some cataclysmic conflict and rubble was strewn across the streets.

Sonya leveled Apollyon at the pair, smiling down the length of the oversized axe towards them. “I don't suppose you want to surrender?

“I usually have friends to swing the swords for me, but even they would not fight a stranger they had just met.”

That was true, though Kallam would have no compunctions about sticking a knife in a stranger's back being the assassin that he was. He and Ben had worked well together from the very start. It would be nice to find someone to do the neccessary dirty work so that the mage could focus on more cerebral pursuits.

He looked at the girl thoughtfully. On first glance she didn't seem to be a fight, but he knew well that looms were very often deceiving. Sometimes intentionally so. Ben suppressed a shudder at the thought of the Bridgeburners’s last recruit.

“I intend to follow and see where his path takes us. At there very least we could make the weather milder.”

He dropped the empty magazine from the pistol and calmly reloaded with a spare from behind his back. Kincaid picked up the empty after a cautious look around and then holstered both it and the sidearm.

Then this gas went from strange to worse. Worse in that all of the destruction caused in the fight disappeared after the girl picked up the crystal left over from whatever had been killing people.

Worse again was that it wasn't going to be so easy to slip away. As if he had ever expected to be able to. A gun toting westerner would certainly stand out and people would doubtlessly remember him.

With nothing better to do than wait to get arrested when the police showed up, kincaid strolled over to the strange girl.

“I'm hoping you have a better idea of what's going on than I do.”
