Today's the first time in a long time that I've felt empty. Not even sad or tired, just empty. This quarantine is getting to me more than I thought.

She was trying to embarrass him. Heh, funny. It might even have worked if he hadn't seen it coming. Ignoring the tease, Nicodemus reclined on his chair and scratched his chin in thought. "I don't really have anything planned at the moment, but I think I ought to greet the new girl. You might want to get to that too, once you feel better. She did point a gun at you after all."

Standing up, he stretched his arms and shot her a grin. "Anyway, it wasn't needed, but I'll thank you for coming to help me out. If this becomes a trend, I'll be relying on you in the future for more daring, daredevil antics. I'll be sure to avoid glass though, so you can thank me later. I hope your ready for it."

Ruffling her hair as he left, Nic gently closed the door behind him, and went around to look for the new-girl.

It turned out, he didn't have to look for long. The girl was walking about, looking nostalgically about the school. Huh, so she was a student here. Good to know.

The young man raised his hand and waved at the girl.

"Oi, new-gal, fancy a chat for a bit?" he asked, a smile on his face, and a crowbar twirling in his hand.

~Karen Antonius~

Inside the castle, Karen tried to feel relieved. At the very least, she tried to avoid getting annoyed. It didn't show on her face or in the way she acted, of course, but she still felt it and she didn't like it. That little stunt on the train irritated her beyond reasoning, and this just on the first day of the term.

The Headmistress speech did little to help. She recalled her own first day at Hogwarts, where the woman gave a much grander and welcoming opening for the newcomers and returnees'. She felt a brief flash of annoyance for the Headmistress herself, before dismissing it as petty; she was probably just as stressed as she was, if not more so. Still, Karen wished that she could at least give the younger students something nice for them to remember on their first day here. Plus, her heart was in the right place, which counted for much, in Karen's opinion.

What did cheer her up was the sorting though. She always got swept up in the passion of being introduced to new housemates, and liked enthusiasm of everyone as they cheered on the newcomers with loud voices. At the very least they would remember this moment in a positive light.

Sighing, the girl made a sign of the cross and offered a quick prayer before meals before digging in.

Seeing Elliot from the table across her, Karen gave a small smile before dainty picking up a slice of lamb-chops.

"So, your plans?" she asked. "For the Cloaks, I mean." She felt it would be good to talk about this with someone.

A knock on the door came before a loud, "Good afternoon," and Nic entered the room. He had a knife in one hand that he was idly toying with, and a plate of cooked venison roast. He eyed the Twizzler in Nikki's hand. "Yeah, no. Candy isn't going to do you much good. You want your blood back? Eat some meat."

He set the plate on a table next to Nikki, before pulling a chair. "So, how you feeling, firecracker?"

As Nicodemus walked out the fire exit, he was surprised to find Nikki there lying in wait for him. The girl, surprisingly enough, hugged him. "Hahaha, you should know by now that it's impossible to kill me," he said with a grin. "Anyway, yeah, this is the stuff. Let's get a move on."

On their way back, Nicodemus noticed her expression. She was hurt, and losing blood. He 'tsked' and prepared a list of thing's he'd need when they got back. Of course, the girl herself was helping her situation by moving around and aggravating her wounds. Oh, and looks like there was a new girl in town. He'd introduce himself later. Right now he had more important things to deal with.

"Hey, whoa, calm down there firecracker," said Nic, grabbing Nikki by the shoulders, then he shot Eliza a thin smile, "and I don't know who you are, put that down before you hurt yourself," he said with a half-mocking, half-annoyed tone. Still, there was an approving look on his face; the new girl was cautious at least, so he couldn't begrudge her showing some force.

Sighing, Nic lifted Nikki in a bridal carry. "Honestly, worry about the supplies later; they aren't going anywhere, so fix yourself up first." Nic carried her towards the nearest bed, before grabbing his backpack and rummaging through it. He inspected her wounds calmly. Then shook his head and took out hooked needle, and doused it in alcohol.

"You're getting stitches," he said in a flat tone that didn't allow for any arguments. "Bite down, this'll sting a bit."

Nic closed his eyes and breathed in deep. The hordes were coming, and he was alone, surrounded, and allies would not be coming. His smile widened, the smile of a child let loose into an arcade and told that he was free to play however long he wanted. This was what he lived for - this thrill.

The supplies he had gathered were already bundled and thrown out of the building. It was a large cache, and he was sure that it would help them out in the long run. With that, the primary objective was complete, which meant nobody could fault him for having a little fun now.

He was inside the penitentiary, at the very entrance. Currently, vast hordes were swarming about, attracted by the sound, but having no specific direction to go to; after all, the sirens were built in and out of the building.

Looking around him, he made note of the different possible choke points. Hordes were easier to deal with when they came in one-by-one, so that was always the first thing he looked for. There were three that he made note of: one, the stairs, which was also close to a fire exit which doubled as a convenient escape route. Two, the bathrooms, probably a bad option given that there was little to no room to maneuver. Three, the entrance itself was a barricaded double door that only allowed for the zombie to either climb over or squeeze through the gaps.

Deciding to set up at the entrance, Nic welcomed his first of many guests with a grin.

It was a former riot policemen. Perfect.

Despite the difficulty of killing these annoyingly tough bastards, they did have one major weakness, namely that they couldn't move as well as others of their kind, due to the armor they wore. - which meant that they were even more clumsy and easier to trip.

Nic dealt with the first one by letting it approach him, then watch it trip and fall then stab it in the eye. That was really pathetic.

"One down, how many hundreds more to go," he chuckled.

His game of kill or be killed lasted an hour, an hour that quickly tested his stamina and endurance. Even for him, fighting off a horde of hundreds was a difficult task when they came continuously. Finally, after the sixty-seventh body fell, Nicodemus decided that he'd had enough fun for the day.

The only problem was, well, he was kinda surrounded.

"Woo-hoo-hoops," he said, smiling slightly. Apparently, the building wasn't as cleared as he thought, and the escape routes he had counted on were slowly but surely getting blocked out by sheer numbers. "Well, this is going to be difficult."

He was tired. More tired than he had predicted. It wasn't fatigue, not yet, but it could quickly come to that if he didn't act quickly and decisively. First, he needed to buy some time. Second, he needed a way to get past the encirclement of zombies he was under. Simple, but easier said than done.

Looking down, Nic found himself staring at the bodies he had piled up. Well, one body in particular. Nicodemus picked up and dragged a riot policeman's' body with him inside the bathroom. Once inside, the first thing he did was barricade the door with whatever he had on hand, before he stripped it down, cut up the body and coated his clothes and the armor in blood before putting it on.

Then, he walked out.

His gamble paid off, and his scent was covered up by the blood he was bathed in. Practically jogging through the stairs, Nicodemus made his way out through the fire exit, picked up the supply cache he had stashed away. Then he began looking for Nikki. Despite his general disregard for human life, he honestly hoped she was fine. In fact, he probably would feel that way for any on his team. If they died, they died, but in the meantime, he preferred them alive. Call it sentimentality or whatever, but that was how he felt plain and simple.
