The World as We Know It

The World, the Year of Our Lord, 1899. Industrialization, imperialism and of course war have driven themselves as front page news for much of recent memory. With the turn of the century at hand, a great many nations see to it that with the new century comes new fortunes and new frontiers. The World as We Know It is a political, economical, social and military simulator where you take on a single nation and attempt to steer it towards greatness. You will represent that nation's people, it's ideology and its leaders while navigating random events by the GM, as well as other players aspirations. TWaWKI has basic mechanics that allowed for complex situations to arise and is easily managed for even the newest members to Roleplayers Guild.

Mechanics / Ideas
- Military: Nations will have available to them a very realistic slew of soldiers in an easily accessible fashion. Combat will be managed on the strategic level with attention paid to logistics, training and strategy.
- Politics: Demographics and political parties will represent your nation's inner workings. Paying attention here will contribute to a stable nation.
- Economics: Nations will have available to them a randomized series of resources that will provide bonuses to various characteristics of your nation.
- Technology: Developing industrial and military technologies is an essential function of your nation. Falling behind could have disastrous consequences.

So is this multiple galaxies or one galaxy.

A single galaxy. I'll get the IC up today.
One more and we'll hit the ground running.
Excellent. Maybe two more and we can start. We could start with 3 Players plus some NPCs.

Since the Vaal Collective are humans, any additional civilizations may not be humans.

The Galactic Conclave

It is the eve of the tenth anniversary of the Galactic Conclave, a semi-autonomous conglomeration of member-states representing their civilizations on the planet of New Halycon. The future of the Galactic Conclave remains uncertain, as nations participate in political, economic and even military conflicts outside the Conclave in order to control their own destiny. There are nations that are not apart of the Galactic Conclave and for good reason too--the bureaucracy of politics has it's own dark shadow.

The Conclave meets once every Galactic Cycle, and it's reigning security and financial committees remain in perpetual gridlock as nations fight to have their own ambitions realized. The future of the universe rests not at the behest of super hot plasma guns attached to floating dreadnoughts and hyper automated carrier drones but rather the collective votes within the Galactic Conclave.

The Galactic Conclave is a political, economic and military simulation on the scale of galaxies with an emphasis on the Galactic Conclave, a mirror of our United Nations. From the Galactic Conclave, your civilization will forge diplomatic alliances, vote on sanctions, laws and initiatives and ultimately help shape the galaxy. Similarly, your civilization need not be a member of the Conclave, giving you certain freedoms not enjoyed by the members of the Galactic Conclave and similarly not giving you the same immunity. Unimportant here is a map--as your civilization has access to Faster-Than-Light technology.

This is a game of bluffing, deception and politics. War is important here, as is the economy, but these are extensions of the game that takes place within the Conclave. The Nation Dossiers are entirely private, meaning you will only know of another civilization what your intelligence networks allow you to know.

Alessandro de Bladelli, Owner of Banco Bladelli, Head of the Bladelli Family

The Palazzini di Veranti, like the other abodes of Veranth, had long been infested with opulence and glutton. Overstretched and corrupt, the Duke dangled himself from the strings of overspending and wasn't far from meeting his maker thusly. Alessandro turned his nose up at the gathered hosts and kept mostly to himself on the periphery of the room. It wasn't to be for long, however. The emergency council initiated and Chairman Ignatius Cremini--at the head of the room--requested that nominations be held for the good of the city.

Few in the room knew not the name of the Bladelli family. Their centuries long banking prominence had long held Veranth in the balance when it might yet have fallen. While the Banco Mora was a worthy competitor, Bladelli's storied tenure of mercantilism and profiteering for the people had cast them in a most favorable light. Not mere moments that some gaudy dressed miscreant from South Verant stood to nominate himself for Master of Arms that Bladelli stepped into the center of the room. His tunic was plain and maroon, with a single golden stripe down the left side, and his stature no more graceful. He raked in those present with wandering eyes, finding--but never acknowledging--the likes of Giovanna di Mora, the heiress of the Mora Bank and Marquise of the Reach and Rodrigo Nantua himself.

"Good people of the City," he said at last, turning to address others to whom he had had his back turned. "Is this not but one of many grievances that has befallen us? Is this not.. merely another test? Have we not suffered enough? The Church may yet find further sinners among us, and damned be them; but the city of Veranth must not waver. For too long, my family has remained absent from the political sphere, free from it's temptations. For too long, we have allowed other--more deceptive--men to take hold of this once grand city." He tipped the embellished goblet in his hand to his mouth and from it, whet his lips. "For too long, brothers, sisters, friends; we have stayed in the shadows. No longer! I, Alessando de Bladelli, of the Banco Bladelli and head of the Bladelli family, would humbly bequest the nomination as your Master of Coin. Under it, I would see it Veranth be made a capital of trade and industry. Those under the auspices of sloth might once again find work, and those laboring under the delusions of poverty might be released from it. Chairman, Thank you."

Bladelli, per his custom, slipped from the fore back into the crowd almost immediately following his speech.
@Theodorable Tommy is right, might want to make up a place for the Bladelli residence and I'll update the map. @rush99999 60 is just an average!
Edit: It's ok to be in direct competition with the Moras, but I would say it's not fair to empress to simply declare your families superiority at the start of the game. Other than that, welcome to the famia

Rectified.
Thane Gamvar Thogus, of the Hold of Marak of the Dwarven Realms

"I shall bring word of this agreement back to the Great Thane, m'lord. A great many blessings upon you, King Alaric." With a bow that saw his beard sweep the floor. He turned, along with his entourage and left the the hall of the newly elected King Alaric.

Similarly, the high nosed Elven Prince gave a nod of approval and turned to leave, stopping only to gaze over the assembled Lords and Ladies, then exited the hall himself. The council meeting had adjourned, and unless King Alaric I had further measures to discuss, the Lords of Osteria were free to return to their fiefs, except for the newly appointed Marshal and Spymaster, who would then retain permanent positions in the city of Tythmas.

Before departing for Tythmas, Lord Demotoriaus had ordered a contingent of two hundred plate mail knights to scour the countryside of the Duchy of Lordea and round up those who might still be feeling the "oppression of empire" and sort them out. Message reached Lord Demotoriaus while still in Tythmas that a handful of dissenters had been rounded up and the streets, patrolled by these same knights even now, were much quieter in their stead.

[Duchy of Lordea -1 Unrest]

In celebration of the coronation of King Alaric I, a great festival was held in Stag's Hearth, the capital of the Duchy of Enea. Bards and songspinners came from the Elven Principalities, a great many shows were put on and the Duchess of Enea spared little expense in ensuring that the love of King and Land was known throughout Enea. In it's aftermath, many of those who traveled to the majestic and calm lands of Enea decided to stay, finding homes in the cobbled streets of small Enean villages and hamlets.

Additionally, a training program to teach Osterian soldiers the ways of the bow was initiated, turning them into competent swordsmen and archers both. These soldiers, dubbed to be rangers of the forest, are exceptionally capable of attacking with either sword or bow and disappearing into the forest moments later.

A formal Inquisition begins in the Duchy of Lordea, with 500 Inquisitors being sent at the request of Lord Demotoriaus. They scour the land, seeking those who do not adhere to the whims of the Church. On one such occasion, a family of heathens--those who believed in Lordean customs, are dragged from their homes and beaten in the church square. The continued inquisition is a slow and dreadful process, but by Spring's end, a great many churches in Lordea see their attendance rise.

[If you sent an order, it was accepted. Just because it was not commented here does not mean it wasn't.]

Thane Gamvar Thogus, of the Hold of Marak of the Dwarven Realms

Escorted by a pair of dwarves whose beards raked the stone floor, Thane Thogus was the first of the two envoys admitted into the room. He and his escorts slid to one side as Lord James Conrad--a nameless Duke of Osteria as far as Thogus was concerned--exited the hall. Thogus approached the throne and offered a bow. "Greetings and a great many congratulations upon you, King Alaric. With a heavy heart we send our condolences for the loss of King Timault and hope that your reign may last twice as long and be just as prosperous. The Dwarves of Marak first wish to grant upon you ten chests of our finest gold as naught but a gift to Osteria."

"Secondly, I bring word from the Great Thane Therren Bhardain that we wish to open a trade agreement between our great peoples for a sum of five years total. This will bring a great needed trade into both our lands; ours suffering from famine and drought, and yours from war."

[Dwarves of Marak gift 10 Gold to the Second Kingdom of Osteria]

Prince Aearion Galonos of the Principality of Galonos, Lands of the Sylvari

Following in line mere minutes after the Dwarven Thanes, Prince Galonos--flanked on either side by lithe hooded figures--entered the throne room and approached the dais upon which King Alaric I sat. "Sídh bo cin, King Alaric. Peace upon you," he added, apparently translating. Laden in a fine white silk robe, Prince Galonos gave a parting glance to the Dwarves off to one side then flicked his gaze back to the King.

"We are glad that the misfortune of King Timault did not bring ruin upon Osteria, for it would have done little to advance relations with the Sylvari. We come seeking new trade relations, much like the harbingers under the mountain, though we promise that ours will be significantly more prosperous and for a term lasting twelve years. Please consider this with the same meticulousness that your predecessor did."
