Well, after Nemid left Existence, a large source of their power was gone, and they lost their ability to be competitive over time. So their success in the past was minimal, but they are still alive, and with the mother hen in the equation to leech power off of, they are likely close to, if not at what they were in their prime. Seemingly a force to challenge whosoever they please.

You say that, but how many of those threats are actually trying for control, rather than destruction? It deeply concerns me, but I'm not sure how much it should. Their attempts at control were largely thwarted by personal greed.
