The question would be, despite all Tolkien ever said about how he doesn't like allegory, would the content of the books have been different in this timeline? I think a literary butterfly effect would be inevitable, where lifestyle changes caused by the political climate would have put his mind in a different place while he was writing the books, but how far would that go? And how much would his view on the political situation at the time change what he ends up writing?
