It seemed a bit stereotypical as far as Confederate myths go. You know, Forrest is obviously a dick, Lee is an amazing genius who will go out of character to do all the heroic shit in the novel. In the end all the southerners give up slavery because, regardless of the economic implications, they don't like the idea the future is going to judge them for it. Plus there is that scene where Lee considers his sex life with his invalid wife, which was about as awkward as that sort of thing is going to get. That's like writing a scene about George Washington rubbing one off before crossing the Delaware.
