You don't have to be accepted actually. We let players know if anything needs to change with the character and you're just fine right now actually.
As well, you don't have to have a match to play. You can interact with any character you like, so long as they respond to you. And as mentioned above(^) they can't ignore you if you directly interact with them. So there's always someone around. Though it you want to speak with an unmatched character I'm sure that anyone free wouldn't mind.
