I'm working on getitng my first profile up, that of SOCIO, but I forgot to save it like the very put together person I am, and lost about half of it, but it'll be up soon enough.
@Polyphemus I am here for it. Bryan is accepted.
"It was a Monday morning at Paragon Incorporated's Research Facility. It was Deb in accounting's birthday so management had provided a large box of iced donuts in the employee kitchen.
The good coffee machine in the corridor had broken again, creating many complaints about having to use the freeze dried stuff, and the maintenance workers were still cleaning bits of Robinson the security guard off of corridor C in the secure level, after yesterday's mishap.

All in all, an average morning in the laboratory known, after numerous ad agency focus groups, as: "

An RP about ethically questionable science and casual dress Fridays.

The Company

Brightside was one of the more modern facilities in Paragon's repertoire, and home to some of the more ambitious genetic engineering projects. Of course 'ambitious' and 'hazardous' often came as a set and as a result staff turnover in certain areas was faster than the company would really like to admit. Still, in an uncertain world plenty of people jumped at a chance of employment in a fast growing company that paid well, let people wear jeans on the job, and sent the teams paintballing once every three months.

Paragon Incorporated was one of the leading weapons manufacturers, their director hitting near the top of 2086's Rich List.

As military situations across the world became progressively more precarious, spending on bigger and better weapons had been on the incline, and macroscopic bioweaponry was the new market. The development of supposed 'super soldiers' to both support, and take the place of, regular human soldiers was a very popular idea. After all, a soldier grown in a test tube had no family to be upset if they disappeared in action, no-one to initiate potentially very expensive lawsuits if mistakes were made, no poor publicity.
It was the way forward, apparently. And Paragon Inc. had wanted to be on the crest of the wave. So, about eight years previous they started snapping up some of the best names in genetic engineering, and have been doing much the same ever since.

Big names, gifted grads, and anyone who catches their eye are offered a position, and given a great deal of creative free reign.

This paid dividends, as now, a few years into the project, they have numerous projects and prototypes underway.

There can be occasional....incidents, but generally speaking staff satisfaction is quite high. SOCIO maintained never having heard anyone badmouthing the security levels. Well, no-one it disliked enough to snitch on, anyhow.

The Facility

Brightside was designed to serve as a cutting edge workspace for some of the brightest and most ethically flexible of the scientific world. Build into the side of a mountain in [REDACTED] some staff commute in, though many elect to live on site.

Especially the research staff. Possibly out of a fear of interacting with the general public for extended amounts of time. Researchers are often considered an eccentric bunch, a load of geniuses given 'creative freedom' and access to all kinda of equipment, funds, animals, and a few convicts transferred over from the sister company of Paragon Corrections. They are not above working together, but many have their own focus and pet projects. There is, to some degree, a sense of good-natured (or occasionally less-than-good natured) rivalry, but most would never stoop to anything as low as sabotage. They do have careers to think of.

Accomodation is retained to quite a high standard within the facility, and fortunately the medical facilities were top of the line..given the numerous and highly diverse ways one could get maimed on the job. Luckily advances in cybernetic prosthetics had been part of another of Paragon's projects.

Security falls into the hands of a small legion of trained security personnel, and the all-seeing eye of SOCIO, Brightside's advanced system controller, information aggregator, and only occasional blackmailer. Between the two there had yet to have ever been a dreaded 'full breach' where a dangerous subject had surpassed the defences and made it into the outside world. That has yet to happen, but there have been a few close calls, and 'incidents' tend to fire up on a weekly basis. The average Brightside guard is not in the job for an easy life, but the work is certainly exciting, and the pay is good. You just have to be very careful to browse in incognito mode, because SOCIO will read EVERYTHING.

At the bottom rung of the ladder staff-wise are the maintenance and custodial staff. The people who keep the gears grinding along and who clean up the ichor and the limbs off the floor at the end of the day. It's tough, thankless, often biologically hazardous work, but most asked would maintain it was still better than working retail.

Then, you have the test subjects. A...diverse selection of lifeforms designed for military applications of numerous kinds. This interpretation of Paragon's brief has gone in numerous different directions from project leader to project leader, and you're about as likely to run into one initially resembling an average looking middle-aged man as you are to something with nineteen eyes and mouths on stalks. All, assuming they have been successful, are some flavour of dangerous. As long as that danger was focused in the right direction, subjects were afforded some measure of freedom in their downtime. A small rec room and cafeteria where the well behaved and designated projects could practice some variety of social skills under the eye of security.

Those that started ripping limbs off however soon had a frowny-faced sticker placed on their record and were restricted to their holding rooms. Of course the trouble tended to be how quickly the limb ripping could start.

The Scene

It's the start of another work week at Brightside Bioweapon Research Facility. There was an unfortunate accident the night before, and the night before that the custodial staff had a party that resulted in a two ton armoured quadruped thundering around the lower levels severely intoxicated.

The place's director is a little....concerned.
Given the fast approaching tour for Paragon top brass to view their assets and check progress.
Anything going too far awry could be pretty disastrous for their future funding.

So a memo has been sent out.
Tighten up. No nonsense. Be thorough.

With that, the Director is certain everyone will pull together and the visit will go without a hitch.
The Director has to believe that, because they've used up all their mental health leave.

The O O C Stuff

Welcome to Brightside!

An RP about science no ethics committee signed off on, arms races, and who ate your lunch from the employee fridge.

I am Vit and I shall be your GM for the experience.

First thing's first, ground rules:-

Rules

  • Please submit characters on the OOC thread for review before putting them on up in the characters tab. Place aren't really limited as such, and I'm going to be taking a reasonably laid back approach to the approvals but I like to check everything lines up first.
  • Be polite in the OOC thread. Leave the bickering to the characters, lord knows they need the space.
  • Take as many characters as you can handle, if you're comfortable with juggling them.
  • As the tone might suggest, I am not necessarily looking for things that are scientifically accurate. That said, it's sci-fi rather than fantasy, so whatever wild stuff you like as long as it's at least superficially the product of man rather than magic.
  • If you have any ideas outside those suggested that's fine and I welcome people exercising their creativity, but if anything is very left field it's probably a good plan to talk it over with me first in case there are any inner-workings reasons that it might not gel.
  • I'm not really hip with the fancy coding, so, if you want to pretty-up your sheet more than my mediocre attempt, add more pictures, do something fancy, then be my guest, so long as it retains the categories listed.

Thanks for all the interest folks!

I'll try and get something put together and ready to go today, and will link here as soon as it's ready!

Welcome to Brightside Bioweapon Research Facility, owned and operated as an asset of Paragon Incorporated, a weapons manufacturer and on 2068's list of Top 100 Companies.

With increasing global conflict, and scientific advanced into the field of genetic engineering, Paragon opened Brightside as its first steps into the new field of large bioweapons, living things created exclusively for their military applications.

Ethical concerns were less of a problem when you already dealt in things that rendered people not alive on a daily basis, and Paragon invested a lot into Brightside.

A well-equipped facility with state of the art security, good pay and a relaxed work culture, they snapped up as many gifted scientists as they were able.

It's several years since Brightside opened. All number of strange creatures created by the projects are held inside, alongside the numerous staff, scientists, guards, technicians and custodials, all of whom who only occasionally have to fear for their lives in a terrible breach perpetrated by something with seven rows of teeth.

They tried to tell Dr Haas that seven was excessive, but he's always such an over achiever.

Welcome to an interest check for Brightside, an RP about mad science and free donuts.

It follows the subjects and staff of the Brightside Bioweapon Research Facility, a questionable research lab created by a questionable company that does questionable things.

It's all quite questionable.

Especially the coffee situation.

I am Vit, your friendly neighbourhood GM.

The writing level I had in mind is pretty casual, you don't need to stress too much over it. Just give people enough action to work with.

In general I'd expect RPers to treat each other with respect and consider the enjoyment of others, but it's intended to be a bit loose and fun and picking up the concept and running with it.

My intention currently will be to provide a seniour researcher character, and SOCIO, the facility's security system and first project.

Characters could consist of the subjects, supersoldier prototypes and staff, the numerous folks keeping the place running. Indeed you're free to suggest anything else, though that'll be on GM's discretion for the sake of keeping things on an even keel.

If you're interested, make your voice heard, and if you have any questions, fire away.
(Posting now though it's still very much incomplete, because I am paranoid about losing it.)
