Midnight Illusion Town: An Urban Fantasy RP

This looks and sounds like a promising premise so I will be putting down my interest. When I have later today I'll start making a character! If we have any questions about the lore in Minazawa, is it okay to ask?

life at ritman high For Alex, Ritman High is a bittersweet memory that was built up for a variety of personal reasons but that sentiment was mostly kept to himself. When anyone asked, he gave an appeasing answer and turned the tables back against them to see how their high school experiences were. In his time at Ritman High, he was an interesting and popular student as both his peers and teachers would say, being a familiar face that people knew and talked to. This likability mostly came from his easy going and 'go with the flow' kind of attitude that made it easy for other people to talk to him as it seemingly didn't matter even if they were a upperclassmen or a underclassmen. He was likened to being a font of unrelenting cheerfulness that many people saw him as quite the bubbly and playful individual, often being described as someone who was 'intense' or 'aloof'. While not meaning much from Alex, he accepted it as something that he simply wore on his sleeve and that attitude itself made many people believe that he always lived in the moment, never seeming to care much for what happened afterward. As such, he had sporadic achievements around school without much focus and a whimsical nature that people knew he wouldn't commit to something long time, that was simply Alex. What he gave in return for people around him though was a true appreciation for the moment, most people didn't mind him because of that part of him as it was something seemingly older than someone like him should have. A person with wisdom beyond their years as people would say, even if they got themselves into trouble or had fun outings, he was always be the one responsible. It was something reliable about him that people saw and appreciated him for, leading him to always being at the fun end of a joke about everyone being his family. In truth, many people didn't know who Alex really was, most people didn't even have much of a clue about his life in general as he kept these private matters to himself. More correctly, he didn't open himself up to allow such personal things to be seen by other people, preferring to focus on other people and their problems rather than his own. As for Alex, he didn't have a tragic or difficult life, if anything at most it would be a complicated situation but how everything was received and interpreted on his end was quite poor that lead to this issues forming. This was a problem even before his time during Ritman High, being a person who could intuitively feel as someone who was left out, he sought to fix it himself. This turbulent time for him went mostly unnoticed because he never want anyone to worry about it, learning to acquire quite the poker face by looking at the people around him to see what they were doing that he wasn't. For his shortcomings and inadequacies, he incorporated elements of other people's personality into himself as a mask for himself to grow into and to be accepted. To this day, if anyone one were to notice a crack in the mask he puts on display for anyone, he'd quickly seal it up and ease any concerns that they may have as that was, again, how he simply worked. ▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔

The concept of what makes culture and beauty is a vague topic that is different depending on the person you ask and can entirely change depending on the society that is in question. There are some thing, however, that are universal within the world that can be said without being bound to things such as language, culture, or individual tastes, but that's perhaps that's a subjective opinion. It does, however, have a ring of truth as human interactions within the world are complex structures that are not easily navigated through. That is the ability which Alex possesses, being the ability to manipulate and create these phenomenons from the world around them. His ability to create objects that are beautiful usually are things such as gemstones, crystals, and light which are the main area of his focus. For something that already exists in the world with its own existence in place already, it is impossible for him to force his certain aspects of his ability onto them. He can, however, influence them as a investment of a long time process to imbue his desired concepts into them such as 'beauty' which can be found in the end result if there is no resistance. One could compare this ability to being something like reverse empathy where his emotions and intentions are the ones that are revealed to other people. For a more definite grasp on the mental capabilities of his powers, he's able of imbuing his words and actions with a kind of intensity and weight that is something akin to a mind manipulating ability on others. In truth, this is more of a side effect of him using his ability that invokes a response from such immense feelings coming from Alex or whatever he is doing. The control he has over their reactions is nonexistent as it is ultimately up to them with how they reacting, his ability may have them a few steps closer to his desired result but it cannot force them if they don't willingly want to. As a ability which only causes a response, the effects that his ability can manifest can greatly range but it is guaranteed to grab someone's attention like a magical enchantment from a fairy tale if someone is caught off guard. Its like a dream that befalls upon a person that enraptures for a moment them before disappearing upon entering the waking world once again. With an ability with a more esoteric and abstract applications, its evolution as Alex develops his abilities can only branch out to who knows.

▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔ [+] ▼ s t r e n g t h s ▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔ ► As such an understated power, the energy required to use Alex's ability is almost nonexistent, being something that is always active for him as a natural instinct. Alex's ability is in its strongest environment when dealing with social engagements or, simply put, more mundane matters in everyday life. It is an ability that is exceptional at persuasion, being capable of putting significant weight to words that people wouldn't doubt to be a lie or a significance to them that people wouldn't challenge. Due to its nature, it is a deceivingly powerful ability that can also flare up with its user's emotions, becoming stronger if the effects align with Alex's own emotions. ▼ w e a k n e s s e s ▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔ ► Due to the nature of Alex's powers, since it is a ability that is always on for him, any changes of his mood are extremely prone to affecting his powers in unpredictable ways. However, that is the least of his worries as his powers are dreadfully incompatible with combat which requires deliberate and tangible use of force when it is called for, possessing literally no inherent offensive capabilities for him to use. It will require him to be creative to get around the shortcomings of his powers as even defensive application of his powers are difficult to imagine or even use even if thought of. -

psyche Personally, Alex has always seen himself as an introvert but repeatedly the idea has been rejected by people as he's seen as 'the popular one' or as 'someone who knew everyone'. This might of been a shallow observation from others, but Alex never had really close friends that he's let into his own life. Mostly having presented himself as a cheerful person who went along with anything lead many people finding him simply easy to talk to and befriend. However, there is truly a difference between being truly a kind and compassionate individual or being kindhearted so that other people would like you. As for himself, he's always gauged himself to fall in the latter category as a phony, keeping himself under wraps as the outside world never managed to pierce through the veil he always placed up. That never meant he didn't truly interact with people genuinely but he's like a baby chick who never broke out of their shell, having never found a solid anchor for himself to establish on. As such, he always enjoyed the presence of others who he finds as better people than him, supporting them and wishing them the best over his own self. If he was to conduct his own test about his personality, he'd fall under the archetype of the Mediator, being quite the accurate description for him yet not without a few discrepancies. Same with the star sign of his birth being Cancer, it is also another aspect of him that he resonates with parts of the description yet does not fully describe him. Together with the two of them, he'd agree that he would be a prime example as he places his own emotional baggage onto the back burner while prioritizing others, being a behavior that he aptly does which align with the two classifications. In a sense, the protective and cautious aspect of his personality takes to the forefront, while his emotional side is truly evident in the care he provides for his friends that may surprise people. However, the mask that he placed on in high school didn't simply end when graduating, like any habit you'd continue with them until yourself or something pushes a change to say otherwise. In fact after Ritman High, with his maturity and wisdom gained, he's ability to fit into the mask that he design is like a natural instinct for him. Anything that is going on in the back of his mind builds up there until he eventually implodes in one way or another, whether it be today or next week, that is simply how his personality is and always been. If one were to gauge between his high school and graduated self, with age one could look back and say there was always a distance and feeling of distance that now has a stronger presence of melancholy if you caught Alex off his guard. Sometimes if you catch him at the end of his fuse, his emotional side may violently crack its way through the mask that he placed in front of him, but that's when a person should notice that it's really a red flag. ▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔

Alex is more or less the same as your average day young adult, with a dash of a little more responsibility which people wouldn't expect from this man. Being surprisingly above average in the area of academics while he was in high school, which was surprising from what it looked like to his peers, where he aced every test with little problem but homework and similar things were left undone which balanced themselves out. As Alex spent more of his time being more involved in things like sports mostly with the jocks or participating in school plays occasionally with the quirky group. Excelling in sports during his years in school, with various athletic activities like wrestling, basketball, soccer and volleyball. In terms of combat, Alex may not have formally been trained in any fighting technique or style but he has been in his own pocketful of tustles and ruffles with others so he knows how to handle himself. Along with his time in high school as a wrestler, he incorporates what he remembers into his fighting when he can to take down his opponents. Using his youth and athleticism give him the edge in fighting, with his honed body and instincts from sports be used. He was accepted into many different schools despite applying for them as a non-athlete, and when he did apply as one his acceptance rate only increased from other universities as well.

With advice from his mother, he began preparing himself to be the next man of the house should his father not come back and ready himself with the skills he would need. Learning and eventually becoming a talented cook for handling his own meals every day and his roommates back then. While also being financially savvy as he learned quickly how to count money or face being thrown out into the streets with a bonus of a shot of maturity to go along with it. Learning how to function like an adult a long time ago when the reality of life was approaching on the horizon before it came knocking on his door. Spreading his range of influence as well by connecting with a variety of people during school.

Electricity Manipulation

Alex's mutant powers is very simple which is the ability to control electricity, being able to generate it and manipulate it. He is able to cause a variety of effects to occur with the wide breathe of his ability but requires time for larger amounts of energy to be used. With his ability being exponential in the amount he is able to control at the moment, he isn't able to instantaneously realize an effect. He is fairly proficient in use of his mutant ability despite his attempts of downplaying the skill which is required to do the things he's capable of.

Cautious, Calculative, Willful, Sensible, Cunning, Fake, Intimidating, Friendly, and Intense

Alex's personality is a jumble of things as it will always be molding itself to fit into the cookie cutter tin that the situation presents itself. Shaping himself to fit what the other people expect and think of him, his personality is always changing from a group to group basis. It is what everyone does, but Alex just puts more thought into than most people would normally do. Being a popular jock with sports to being a surprisingly weird person for the quirky group or even being a surprisingly artistic person. His personality is always shifting to fit the situation as best as it can, making him unpredictable in the center of the storm that is Alex himself. With many sides of Alex that is revealed but never all at the same time, just a piece here or there to reveal a part of himself. He simply goes with the flow where ever he is, fitting it without much hassle or conflict as possible.

In the most default state that Alex could possibly get is being an outgoing person naturally who likes to talk to people. Being very social, he talks with a certain appeal to it and always responds appropriately with a charming laugh for a cracked joke or an infectious smile for something else. It gives him the appearance of a confident person and an intimidating air around him yet still appealing for some reason. His nature which is almost considered joyful if not pleasant which is infectious to others, a flower almost to watch and smell but never to touch for its thorns.

[✯] Bio:

Alex was born into his family as the second born son, the youngest and the baby of his family with an older brother who was about a good five years older than him. Growing up in a relatively normal childhood he made friends, played around with the other children and went to school like any other kid. His absence of his father was notable for leaving to join the army to support the family, mainly for the medical bills that their mom had due to her medical condition. On occasion, however, Alex still saw him on his brief but enjoyable visits before going back. Still, it wasn't too bad being raised most of the time by his mother and his older brother, he still grew up to be a respectable boy who entered school as a charming individual. However, this shaky family structure would not last long when the letters eventually stopped and two soldiers came to the door, where their mother ushered them to their two rooms while the three would talk. There was sobbing could be heard from the other room, as his brother Joshua could be heard talking as well trying to comfort her.

After the visit, his mother began telling him that he will need to pick up some of the weight in the household now that their father was gone and he understood what he had to do. Along with further prompting with an ominous warning from his brother Joshua that Alex would need to prepare to become the next man in the household should anything happen to Joshua himself. He matured quickly as he began to pick up his academic grades and excel in school and even getting a job on the side like his brother to support the family as well. Everything then returned to an uneasy calm that left an awkward feeling around the house, but they all managed to get through it somehow.

It was during this period of stress that his mutant abilities subtly awoke themselves with seemingly no noticeable change from Alex. Causing him to develop a sense of self-consciousness from the duties that were being carried on his back as he perceived the entirety of events in his life. A few nervous breakdowns were a common event for Alex which he hid from his friends and especially his family as he planned vigorously for the future.

However, it still was not enough to support the treatments for their mother and living expenses as well with the money they were making at this rate. Despite the hard effort by his brother and himself, they couldn't make due from their meager wages and their sick mom not being able to anything but rest. So by the 2nd year in High School, his brother began working full time out-of-state with a lucrative job offer despite the combined protest from Alex himself and his mother. With it just his mother and Alex now living in the relatively empty house. The burden of the house now being carried on his back was immense as Alex would be the column that supported their life at home.

The pressure of juggling school, sports, and life at home took a toll on his mind as he slowly broke down with the onslaught of maturity hitting him, despite preparing for it. Stacked along with the deteriorating condition of his mother, the event horizon approached as soon she grew deathly ill. As on his senior year, it was the time that his mother finally let go and passed away at the start of the school year from her cancer that took her away. It was now just Alex alone at home, as his brother was still now just out of the state making money for the two of them. The money from his brother was directed to him now as he used it to support himself for a short time before he found two other roommates to pay a portion of money for the bills on the house. After sorting out various problems, life began aligning itself and the seas began to settle as Alex focused his resolve on graduating.

And so, Alex graduated with his classmates of the same year as he with a rough start to the year, he still had memories of school which would be cherished as he went into college. Earning a scholarship for being an athlete for a University, his tuition was covered for as long as he didn't mess anything up. Quickly starting college as soon as he could, it looked like everything would be but by uncanny coincidence. During his first few years of college, something shook the confines of his world again. A lecturer by the names of Charles Xavier tapped on the glass that would be better left undisturbed. Convincing him that he was indeed special as the scientist claimed that he was along with a few feats from the other, he reluctantly accepted his proposition to join one of the schools to watch over his powers.
