@Willy Vereb I really like how the RP is shaping up. Since chances are I'll end up joining a few weeks later than everyone else, what sort of plans do you have in mind for players who do, well, join late? Would I be joining as a nation across the sea, or something of that nature?
If there's still room for more nations you can join anytime.
The usual NRP strategy is just to not mention the blanks until they are filled. So you might miss out some of the interactions at the beginning but pretty much you can join the game in any way you want.

I'm interested in this as well, but I'm not too keen on gunpowder but I'll keep an eye on this.
As GoldEagle said, guns do their job but they don't replace classical equipment.
Guns can have a number of advantages but most of those are in terms of logistics and other "soft" stats.
Crossbows and arrows can be shot for hundreds of meters because you can clearly see the projectile as it arcs.
You can't do this with muskets thus combined with other issues it was inherently worse for long range harassment.
Muskets had advantages, too. Especially when you had the industry to equip whole armies with them.
But basically during the 15th century muskets and crossbows/longbows were like apples and oranges.
You can also say it's a matter of style. Depending on how you wish to play both ways are viable and neither has an unfair advantage over the other.
If somebody wants I can give you a list of pros and cons later so you would feel more comfortable at choosing which weapon you want.
Although for most times it's just up to your personal feelings. There's no bad decision on this which would assuredly put you at a disadvantage.

Well, I turn my head for a few days and this just explodes. As I understand it the setting will have early firearms or? Otherwise I'll juse be out. I did not sign up for yet another progress-phobic medieval fantasy setting if I can help it. I think the 14-15th century had some early firearms.

In other news, I would love to be a co-GM to this.
Arquebus, matchlocks, wheellocks or maybe even very early predecessors of the flintlock are possible by this point.
Gunpowder can also have different composition than OTL since we live in a fantansy setting with different materials and possible use of magic/alchemy.
It's just that owning guns won't guarantee you superiority. Arbalest-type heavy crossbows were in many ways superior to guns of this time. It was a matter of style and tactics which kind of weapon you preferred.

And I was your first choice? :> .. well, I'm flattered. Let me think on it before I answer. (Previous commitment takes priority)
Actually no. I didn't even know you'd be joining this game but if you do I trust you the most so I asked you first about becoming a co-GM.
But again, I am open to volunteers. I just wish to break the ice with fantasy games while also ensuring my fluctuating activity won't kill the wave I am making.
The latter concern is what stopped me from attempting this for a while now.

@Goldeagle1221I see.
Well, my next question would've been if you don't mind being a co-GM.
To be honest I have a number of RPs and while I can handle the administration and game making part but given my unpredictable schedule I want somebody else to work on the management part of things.
Long story short after I started the game and got the nations down I'd intend to ask somebody else to run the game. This is because I realize otherwise it might result in a disaster.
Seriously, these NRPs are often very much self sufficient yet when the GM isn't present people just tend to not care about the game regardless. It's a bothersome feature but this is why I want somebody with more consistent activity than me.
I agreed to make this thread in the chat with such condition. Because I want this game to succeed.

This reply isn't only aimed at you. Is there anyone willing to work as a co-GM here?
The game is freeform so you don't really need to consult with me on anything. Again, I just wish the best for this NRP.
@Goldeagle1221Any interest for the game?

Well, since it's "mid fantasy" it means gods and ancient evils have a subtle role at best. Religion is mostly just a make-beleive just like in real life with at best some priests getting magical powers by learning how to channel the power of their god.
Country sizes and their nature is pretty much up to the players. Everything is decided as the nations submissions surface.
Given this freedom the actual origins of the magic are largely irrelevant or differ per which group of users you ask.
In general the setting is chiefly about your nation and you can approach magic and fantastic elements as a needed flavor. That's how most NRPs go.

I suppose that's true. Still prefer early medieval.

One thing I would like to ask: are we planning on having any mechanics or metrics to this RP, or will it be strictly Roleplaying and honor system? If we are going to have mechanics, what kind of stuff should we expect?
Freeform, of course.
Making up game mechanics or stats would only mar the dynamics of the NRP. It isn't like people here have much issue with the honor system to begin with. Game mechanics are necessary if you don't trust the players. I do.

Anyways, if I haven't said it before medieval setting won. 14-15th century style will dominate for the most parts.

This looks awesome! I've been wanting to try out some fantasy nation ideas and have been waiting for a forum like this to pop up.

Personally I'd actually vote for low-medieval. A lot of NRPs and games go with high medieval with knights in armor and fine steel equipment, but I don't see many working with the tech level of, say, the Normans, Franks, early Islamic empire, etc. Also, I'm already in one RP that's late medieval/early colonial. :)

Anyway, I vote medieval, but I would play either.
I wouldn't be against that at all.
Albeit worths noting that due to the dwarven smiths and other fantasy elements the metallurgy would be superior to OTL regardless and full plates and other equipment might not be out of reach even there.

Alright, it seems that the choice is practically unanimous.

We're using the second map and with typical fantasy NRP limits. Yes, B choice is actually the classic fantasy setting you find in nationgames.

Anyways, one more question.
Which era you'd prefer?

I.) "Medieval" age where guns are rare though not completely nonexistent (think of the Hundred Years War)

II.) Age of Discoveries (ships armed with cannons, muskets and so on)

This could influence the style of the NRP, again.

On the other hand I am working on the NS guidelines.

If I may ask, does the Holy Hungarian league own Moscow (I can't tell from a map of Russia and what territory he owns)
We only own East Europe till Ukraine and the Baltic states. Even then there are some gaps. I am the green on the map.
Novogrod Empire was effectively Russia during the Great War. They broke into multiple smaller nations after it.

@AltRightHeroSo long there's room, sure.
We have some NPC factions so if you wish to replace those just ask the player who made them.
