I'm gonna go to Bangkok for the second time next week.

So this time, I decided to check up taxi prices and etc before I went. I then realized how exorbitant the prices they were charging me and my friends the last time. They were charging us practically four times the regular price. I was well aware we were being scammed but I let it slide because I didn't want to argue and ruin the holiday mood and because I was under the impression we were being scammed for a trivial amount.

But four times! Considering the amount of cab/tuk-tuk trips we took since we were lazy, that was a whole lotta money. Enough for two peoples worth of a decent buffet.

Standard tourist techniques. In Guatemala people would go to the hardware store and buy machetes (they're as normal as hedge clippers down there), squiggle on them with sharpy, and sell them in the street to tourists for a 1500% markup. Basically everybody in every country scams everybody from every other country. Welcome to erf.

You say that, they often do it for god reasons. My parents nearly died abrouad and had a scam taxi not been waiting outside that bar for drunk tourists it would have never swevered infromnt of the black car that was going to kill them and they would have been killed. SOmethimes the high prices are for good reasons
