but since some people liked that post I feel like people will think I'm a bitch if I don't go for it I have a duty to try.

It probably needs some more spit and polish, but this is it for the most part.

I'm sure almost everyone has come in contact with the comic strip at some point in their lives. There really isn't much to it. It's mostly about a private and his sergeant yelling at each other. There's not much of a mythos, and there's very little character development outside the occasional appearance of former girlfriends or family.

The daily gag comic strip character is going to need a lot to stand in with the gritty legends of the comic book industry. I do plan on keeping to his character. Beetle is a lazy slacker who isn't afraid of defying authority figures, and that much of him I plan on keeping the same. He's returned from the war with a lot of really good war stories (note: he was a REMF) And while that fame lasted a little while, it didn't take long for the ongoing horrors of the war to tune out his stories. While Beetle is a slacker, he did come to love that admiration that came with being a hero. So he hatched this ingenious plan to become everyone's hope as Captain America, and make live speeches for cash. This really just involved him telling the right people he was a war vet and dressing up as the Captain America. A pretty easy way to snag fame. Surely there will be no consequences...

Beetle Baily is very much a side character, and is not designed to replace a true Captain America. He is very much a comic relief character, accidentally getting swept up in plots that are too big for an average human, then getting out of them with as little effort on his part as possible. He can be serious at times though, and offer a view of the story from the perspective of a normal human. And while he never fired at real enemies, he is military trained. So he isn't entirely helpless in combat situations.

I don't really have any story arcs I wish to tell for this character. Much like the character himself, I'm at the mercy of the world, and will react to its events as they come.

Current Skills

Army training: Beetle Baily went through boot camp and ran drills all through his “tour,” even the ones he didn't have to. There is no modern firearm or weapon he can't use, from machine guns to mortars.

Charisma: A bit laid back in appearance, but Beetle is an expert at manipulating people by playing the victim or hero card at the right time. Though anyone who gets to know him sees him for his true nature.

Supporting Cast

Sergeant 1st Class Orville P. Snorkel : Beetle's former aggressive sergeant. Out of pure luck, he's now Beetle's manager. Neither of them are happy about the arangement.

Private "Killer" Diller : Beetle's “war buddy” and a self proclaimed lady killer. They're neighbors.

Timeline

I haven't decided exactly when beetle came back from the war, but I imagine it was recently. This will likely get fleshed out better as the story starts to form.

As much as I hate being As much as I am that guy, I was actually going to do Gambit as my secondary if Spiderman doesn't work out. Can I ask that Gambit be put on held or the whole 24 hour thing is extended until the Spiderman thing is resolved? I was expecting one application to just be chosen so I thought this sort of thing wouldn't come up.

No joke, whenever I said "that's not fair" as a child, my mother used to tell me "life's not fair".

But in all seriousness, as far as fairness goes, I don't think I've asked anything unreasonable. I was told that if two applications for the same character were given within 24 hours of each other, one would be chosen so I figured that the Spiderman business would be quickly resolved. The GM decided to change how to decide so it's going to take longer, so I can't be sure whether I'll have my first choice for some time. You might also have noticed Gowi said 'no dibs' earlier, so it's not like I'm trying to say no one should be allowed to write for him but me, I'd just like a fair shake at Gambit.

I am fine with the whole 24 hours, Gambit Supreme wins. If a better version to fit the GMs vision of the charachter wins, that is all dandy for me.

Gambits long been my favorite marvel character, so I revel in any chance I get to play him really. My concept is that in New Orleans, tension was more than a little high during the sixties. In a city that becomes something of a battleground for civil rights, with racial segregation in schools becoming a major talking point, there is civil unrest bubbling under the surface. Smooth talking, quick witted Gambit never had any issues with other people's skin color, the Thieves Guild welcome anyone of any color as long as loyalty remained with the guild.

A mutant with the “devils eyes”, he has been singled out enough to know at least a small amount of the pain of being a social outcast. This has birthed in him a rebellious streak a mile long and some serious loathing towards all authority, even that of his father, the head of the Guild. He also oppose a lot of the class divide and the constant needless struggle between the two Guilds, even if he refuses to let them marry him of to end that very violence.

His views have made him popular with the younger generation of the guild, many who are Black, Hispanic or otherwise a minority. His little band of outcasts are chafing on the older, more traditionalist generation within he guild however, leading to some internal strife within the guild. Many feel him a threat to the order of things and think he will lead them trough ruination. But as the voice of the younger members, he hold a lot of sway over their future.

I plan to explore New Orleans through Gambits own eyes as he see the clashes between police and protesters as well as the systematic oppression of people around him for something that to him is so unsubstantial. And how Gambit, a quick talking thief who stubbornly refuses Dr Xaviers invite to join him at the school, starts acting a little bit like a Robin Hood, despite the admonishment and downright threats of his elders.

I aim to keep his charm, while trying to entwine him in more than just poker and badly portrait cajun accents. He likely will run with Xmen on and off.

Dr Xavier: A chance meeting has led to Gambit recieving and refusing a invite to join Xaviers institute. Stating that his life was in New Orleans and that mutant or not, he had more pressing issues at hand.

Gambit's always been one of my favourite X-Men, and I've forever been cursing Marvel for their lack of decent movies including him. (X-Men Origins: I'm looking at you.) I do like a lot of his original story, so I'll be keeping certain parts of it. Abandoned at birth, taken in by thieves under the impression he's some sort of Thief Messiah, and then being banished from both the guilds and New Orleans after killing a member of a rival Assassin guild in self defence. Following this, Gambit travels the world, using his skills both as a mutant and a thief to get by. However, as the months pass, control over his kinetic powers becomes much harder, resulting in quite a few accidental injuries and damages. Employing the aid of Mr. Sinister, tissue is removed from Gambit's brain to crank his power level down, thus making it far easier to control.

Following the creation of the mercenary group "The Marauders" and the failed Morlock massacre led by Mr. Sinister, this is where I'll be altering Gambit's story. While saving one Morlock girl (Who later becomes Marrow, a member of the X-Men) and being seriously injured by Sabretooth, Gambit does not join the X-Men after this. Instead he cuts all ties from Mr. Sinister, and while more than aware that his debt is not paid, and the villain would still like to get his hands on him, seeing the Morlock massacre stunned Gambit far too much to be able to continue doing jobs like that. Instead he turned to his old life; stealing and performing mostly harmless heists in order to help others. With The Marauders, police and members of Guilds back in New Orleans still on the lookout for him, Gambit couldn't afford to have too high-flying a lifestyle. Instead most of what he stole went towards the needy on the streets; urchins and gangs of kids that reminded him of his own childhood, who didn't have the skill or nerve to steal for themselves. He also found himself drawn to the social issues going on around him. Being a mutant, Gambit knew of being judged simply for who he was. He found himself on the fringes of civil rights movements and pro-Black rallies, silently attempting to protect those who simply wanted freedom against their oppressors. He could understand that, even when those he helped began to fear him and his strange red eyes. His charitable robberies continued, money being donated to the marginalised groups of America, and the for the needy, bought clothes, food, and anything else they needed. While hardly a perfect man, Gambit always hated to see the innocent or weak suffer.

In recent weeks, news made it's way to Gambit of the Guild situation in New Orleans deteriorating once more. His ex-wife, the brilliant Bella Donna Boudreaux, leader of the Assassin's Guild, has vanished. While having never truly loved the woman as she had him, and having left her a long time ago, Gambit had no means to revisit his old home. But as rumours circled of Russian affiliations within the guilds, and the apparent resurrection of Julien Boudreaux, the brother of Bella Donna and the man responsible for his banishment, Gambit couldn't choose to stay away. He still had friends in New Orleans, and an all out war between the guilds would create more casualties than he was comfortable with. Gambit is now making his way to deep south, hoping to keep his head down and away from the several hits he has out on him.

As for how I'll write him ICly, I think I'll retain most of the Cajun's personality. He's a witty, charismatic charmer with an accent to die for and a penchant for lightening the mood, be it with sarcasm or just plain old jokes. Naturally, all character's have a more serious side, but I'll focusing more on the playfulness we saw a lot of in the X-Men cartoon series. (My God, I loved that show.) This isn't to say his personality is static however; dependant on plot arcs, Gambit may lose some of his cheerfulness.

For character arcs, I'm definitely not opposed to Gambit running into the X-Men, or even joining them; it depends on if people decide to pick up characters from the X-Men and how they're portrayed. I also think the future storylines that Gambit has with Rogue, Mr. Sinister and Apocalypse could prove incredibly interesting. Again, if others were to pick up those characters. Or, if the GM has anything in mind for good old En Sabah Nur and his four horsemen.

Supporting Cast

Mr Sinister

I shan't say too much about him, as he's a pretty big villain in the Marvel Universe and other's may want to use him or implement him into their own backgrounds. Quite simply, Gambit hasn't paid his debt fully, and Mr. Sinister isn't pleased with that. If he and Gambit were to meet again, it would prove destructive for all in the area, to say the least.

Bella Donna Boudreaux

Head of the Assassin's Guild in New Orleans; childhood friend of Gambit's, and also his Ex-wife. Following her brother's death at the hands of Gambit, and his refusal to take her with him in his exile, Bella Donna took up the mantel of leader for her Guild. Over the years, she tried several times to get Gambit back to New Orleans and to her, as she still loved him. Recently, she has gone missing, and is presumed dead - now, a fight for power in New Orleans has begun.

Julien Boudreaux

Bella Donna's older brother. Following the marriage of Gambit and his sister, the union that was to bring peace between the guild's, he refused to let it happen. Challenging his brother-in-law to a duel, the two battled, Gambit winning and accidentally killing Julien as his mutant powers manifested, turning a simple knife thrown at Julien into a kinetically-charged bomb. Gambit was exiled; Julien, presumed dead. However, rumours have spread of his apparent resurrection. Some people believe he never really died, instead faking his death to have Gambit exiled, and then hiding for several years as a soldier in Vietnam. Whatever the cause, the assassin is back, wanting to re-take control, and exact revenge on Gambit.

The Marauders

The super-powered mercenary group created by Mr. Sinister and Gambit's ex-affiliates. After having left the group both injured and disgusted by their actions, animosity remains between the members and Gambit. Notable members include Sabretooth, Vertigo, Prism, Malice, and Riptide, among others.

I'm open to past and future character relations with Gambit; he's bounced around the country quite a bit since leaving New Orleans, so he may have ran into your character's in the past. Message me if you'd care to discuss anything!

Tbf. I regret not making Gambit first xD. He is by far my favorite marvel charachter of all time. Constantine is my FAVORITE full stop though, so I nabbed him quicklike.
