You can get mobile internet for a pretty cheap fee too. BUT.
What I would is ask your landowner if there is wIfI that you can already use, temporarily, of course. They usually will have the infrastructure built in already. You might have to pay the bill but it's often no difference as when you do get your wifi, also, you might not have to pay the full bill as they will be using it too.

Getting around japan as a gaijin isn't easy without internet, the shinkansen (train lines) alone will send you to madness. Trust me, I live here.

I feel like 5 days of inactivity is already very justifiable to skip someone's turn. As the whole thread has come to an abrupt halt out of nowhere for a week because of this and I know how quickly a stale roleplay dies but I kind of want to keep this going.

Plus, I'm keen to see how the other characters play out.

If everyone else agrees, then how 'bout we start a new round without him this time?

Yeah he hasn't been on in a few days, we can go ahead and start a new round. I'll probably aim to do that tomorrow night at the latest. Been busy with real life stuff myself. :/ But I do keep a planner with post goals like I do other to-do items I have some CS stuff I have been putting off for about a week or two so I'm gonna aim to focus on that today, then I can get to this and my other group. I haven't been this busy RP-wise in ages. ^^;

I'm trying to see a doctor before hand, get all the meds I need, I've been shopping for new suits, been brushing up on kanji, etc. Busy busy busy. By the by, there's an app called CamDIctionary that reads and translates japanese to english via camera, been testing it out last year during my stay in shibuya and seems quite accurate. It's in google play store for no charge, very practical when it comes to reading menus or labels AND especially textbooks.

It should be useful on your travels.

@71452K Hey, it's good you're hospitable. I'm gonna need all the encouragement I can get. I did hear of that app or some kind like that. I don't know about getting a cell phone. I've been doing a lot of reading whether I should bring my dinky old S4 with me but have it unlocked. Or get a cheap phone in Japan and try to get MVNO's monthly plan. Some jobs in Japan require a cell phone. I could take it or leave it if I'm saving 30-60 bucks a month by not having it. But I also know it would be nice to have...

I have always wanted to check out Japan but could never commit to a trip in terms of expenses, so I'm going to live there for a bit and get working exp. But I am sure it'll go well for you!

Space Saver

Bring that iphone. I cannot stress how important being able to access the internet at all times, especially here, is. Unless you speak fluent japanese or have lived here a long time, getting around and accessing deals (those qcode scan things are EVERYWHERE) requires a phone. Also, japanese phones are formatted a bit differently to suit local users - it's not friendly to use if you're not japanese. (╯°□°）╯︵ ┻━┻ So don't make the mistake of taking up a new phone here so soon, bring that one unlocked to get used to everything.

It might be good to get Mvno's mobile plans that don't need a contract, softbank and all tge other stuffs will tie you down with a 2 year commitment (°^°) but Mvnos won't. If you want a tip for getting a new phone though, get a dual sim phone - one for network, tge other for calls (it costs less than unlimited data/call plans if purchased from two seperate companies). It's a real saver in the long run.

Btw, I have literally almost froze in the streets at night 3 months ago during the cold season and having access to the network let me find a nearby hidden conbini to prevent that from happening. D: . So yes, bring phone. It's important. @LostBrotherGrimm @Genkai

I'm gonna avoid softbank if possible. The issue with my current phone is that it's a bit old and I recall it the phone is from five years or earlier, it should work in Japan if unlocked. I would ideally like to go to MVNO but it depends on what's around me. I would like to do the one month contracts just for simplicity's sake since renting an apartment or getting a phone seem to try and lock you into two year plans which I can't comfortably commit to.

I've been eyeing the weather too, where I'm headed it doesn't look too bad, about what I'd find in SF which is only 30 mins away from where I live currently. If I can get my phone unlocked before I go (at a reasonable price) I will but otherwise I'm gonna suck it up and look o MVNO if possible. But again, getting internet in my apartment will be my first priority and then a cell phone. Since I also know getting internet will be a pain in the ass too, I think I'll get a co-worker to come with me when I set up things though. I speak conversational Japanese fine but I'd rather have a Japanese person there since I know it helps the process.

Btw, I am gonna make you a new banner, I've been meaning to get around to it so I may do it tomorrow if I remember XD You had the same idea as me, I'll probably just overlay the sketch and smooth it out some. @71452K

I propose the avoidance of rush hour packed trains in favour of a bicycle or a female only train. Too easy for jikans to get handsy and ruin your day. But if you do meet one, you have all the right in the world to slap his family jewels and scream. Just saying. ;). Even if japan is a quiet place, just do it. The non-jikans will usually help.

I've had one too many friends who've had bad experiences with jikans, all of them handsy salarymen are way too late in their senior years.

@71452K I've heard of female-only trains though my apartment is supposedly within walking distance of the office so I shouldn't be too bad. I don't plan on really leaving Sendai unless someone comes out, then I'd probably shell out the yen to go somewhere. It's nearly 100 bucks to even go into Tokyo so I'm not eager to do that. I don't do bikes since my vision makes it impossible for me to balance on those things. I'll be trusting my feet and public transit for most things. Well all things XD

I can handle anyone who tries anything, two older brothers ensured I could defend myself and do it well. Muahaha. But I doubt anyone would try anything, even though Japan isn't "as safe" as people think, it's still fairly safe and I suspect I won't have much trouble unless I get super paranoid at night...which miiiight happen. But hopefully I can find some cute guys in the area, if not I'm totally holding you accountable.

And a timeskip is a good idea. I hadn't considered that. I'd say a week would suffice. I also do encourage ya'll to draw up plans for your private quarters if you'd like, I'll add any pics or layouts to the main OOC post.
