I have risen from the dead. I have a question to ask. Considering the fact that turbojets didn't get off the ground nearly as quickly as they did IRL (although, really, they still have yet to do so in the RP), I was wondering if it'd be okay for the Slavic Union to pursue pulsejets (both valved and valveless) due to how simple they are to make (a famous example being the engine that powered the V-1) and maintain. Considering the fact that they only know very little about jet propulsion at the moment, I was thinking that the development of the engines could be a major story arc for Poland in the RP itself.

I think I would be more comfortable if the first thing you did wasn't this... I mean, lets see some political and character development first.

You can certainly pursue tech. However it should not be the main focus. Especially off the bat. And at the way Precipice moves, making any tech development the primary focus of a nation is a poor idea since you'll be moving at the speed of molasses. And when you inevitably get bored and disappear we got to clean up your mess.

@vilageidiotx That was pretty much my concern too. Coming out of nowhere just to try and change the current status of jets is just.. I don't know, worrisome. It makes it so much harder to determine whether or not this is a gamey move on your part 'cause yeah, you'll be going through the development, but it's too soon, you know? It'd be better if you did other shit first. It feels like you spent time researching how to skirt around the limitations we put in your way when you should have been spending time figuring out how to write a cool story (and writing a fucking app). That to me is a big red flag that tells me you'll just be trying to break the shit we put in place for good a reason. Your motivation shouldn't be technological. it should be story-driven. You're also not known for sticking around. And yeah, I'm not one to talk, but I am also not trying to make jets. If you are going to do something like this, I'd prefer if you proved that you'll stick around first, instead of leaving it half-finished or something and forcing us to brush even more shit under the carpet. I am not sure I like your focus on technology as a whole, though. This is a bit nitpicky but it's just weird. I know you like to stamp 'technocracy' on a lot of shit and honestly, the concept of a technocracy is just.. ugh. Stupid? Silly? Whatever it is, it's also not fitting to Poland, or to PoW in general. A more legitimate concern I have though (but that sort of ties a bit into the previous one) is that Poland shouldn't really be trying to make jets anyway. They have waaaay bigger problems. They should be spending their time, energy and resources on trying to keep the unlikely empire they have built. Ukraine and Czechland are probably a huge strain on the Polish economy right now, and this is without even going into how you may have to deal with things like nationalist movements. Poland has, in a away, inherited the role of Austria-Hungary. They are a multiethnic "empire" that should be plagued by problems within its own borders that ultimately strain its ability to focus on much else, at least until they are sorted. Not to mention Poland is a power in a land devastated by the Great War, with three of the major combatants (Germany, Austria-Hungary and Russia) having launched campaigns on its soil, and should still be feeling some of the effects of that. They are most certainly not the major power they probably look like when you look at them on the map. Maybe back when Keen was in charge it was, but only because that was back before we decided we needed a heavier hand to deal with nonsensical shit. Now, Poland is going to have to face its many problems. It is not an absolute shithole, but it is probably not a power so great it can afford to start developing jets while its economy is caved in by the strain/cost of its annexations and subsequent rebuilding of infrastructure in those places (especially Ukraine), its on-going occupation of Moscow, and other problems that are probably prevalent and take a front seat to "omg we ned jets". I also have to question how likely it is that jets would even surface in Poland before places like Germany and France. EDIT: I meant your motivation shouldn't be technological, not that it should be. I fixed it.

I am OK with the concept of Poland having some sort of fledgling military complex, mostly because if filled that roll during the Armenian war and it can come into play so long as it is done right. But right means zooming out a little bit. One interesting way this could be done is actually pitting an open-market Arms industry against Poland's own government. I'm not talking about something goofy like a rebellion or coup, but rather a situation where the two both need each other and are at odds. From the perspective of the government, the Polish Arms industry is a major employer and is important both to the stability of the economy and the ability of Poland to uphold any sort of practical military, but that same industry is involved in shady dealings that does not always fall in line with the political position of the government. From the perspective of the Arms industry, the government is necessary for keeping a stable nation-state where the industry can thrive and maintaining the ports and trade relationships necessary for keeping the industry in money. This gives you something to go on. Perhaps it comes in the forms of factions or political parties, where some are in favor of giving the Arms industry everything they want and others want to see the industry reigned in and regulated. You could have plotlines where Polish weapons are being sold to Poland's enemies in Russia and the government finds out about it. Maybe the Arms industry is interested in forcing Hugs to post selling to Prussia and it weakens the position of the government. Maybe socialists enter as a third party and their calls for workers rights creates a weakness in the Arms industry that the government tries to exploit. It doesn't have to be that, of course, but it should be some sort of story. But you definitely should not be starting out with some gamey jet tech shit that nobody will remember or pay attention to.

We might of course want to see foreign competition and its relation to other major competitors, national or otherwise. As opposed to focusing on Poland only without perspective we will require some sort of relative position according to the Spanish arms industry and its stock value against Poland, as well as the Germans who have historically had a strong industry. The collapse of Russia and its industrial capabilities may also be used to contrast against Poland (this can also feed into the Russia proposal Vilage made where the demand for arms in Russia would be a gold mine for Poland and others, and the industry may accidentally or will knowingly sell to its own enemies). And the US nationalization of New England Weapons Industry might be a factor too, but that's such a young happening it probably won't be a factor just yet. If we're talking industries than the thing to consider is not only the product but also its profitability on the market. Focusing on how its developing teh l33t neu weapon isn't really interesting. I'm sure Mad Men tier shenanigans of some Wolf On Wallstreet stuff could do with any and all presence it has in the stock market. And any moral conflicts it might have with the anti-war crowd being pissy that it's such a powerful thing.

If writing down an IC post was as easy as writing an argument I'd be up there with Spain, China and Ethiopia.

Its been a few months since you posted atleast. The irony is you rushed me into posting that one letter because you said it would give you something to write about, then you never responded with anything.

To be fair you half-assed the fuck out of that letter. It's like complaining to some starved dude for starving because he couldn't sustain himself on the fully-eaten apple core you gave him.

I decided to go ahead and make a Diplomacy game. We should have enough players currently to be able to do one of these. Orders are set to only being required once every 24 hours. Click here to go to the game the password is pow, and countries are set to first come, first serve. Hopefully enough people will join this time around.
We got 4/7 people, so I'm just gonna plug it again, in case people don't look at the last page.

Here's what I got from wikipedia:
It is believed the name was changed to Armenia after the country of the same name, in memory of the Armenian people murdered in the Turkish Ottoman Hamidian Massacres of 1894-97 in Western Armenia, and later the Armenian Genocide of 1915-23. It is also known by its nickname "Ciudad Milagro" (Miracle city). Currently, 100 Armenians live in Armenia, Colombia.
There are currently 100 Armenians there thinking they are living in the fatherland. EDIT: In other news, another night goes by with me staring at a text box without being able to muster up a post. Wooo.

I suppose I have some explaining to do, then. Although I am still interested in jet technology, if I -do- end up doing it someday within the RP, it definitely would need a major impetus to actually get off of the ground -- a war with nations like Germany or Serbia, for example. Especially considering the current economic status of the Slavic Union/Poland, the government would need a damn good reason to dedicate funding to jet research, although, in all likelihood, it'd end up being a mostly corporate endeavor for that very reason. Either way, though, it'll take a lot of Zloty and much more time to get anywhere. I've also got one of my Polish friends helping me make a propaganda poster (namely because I am not confident in my ability yet), so hopefully that goes through soon.

Heylo, back. Almost finished writing an IC post, should happen by the end of the day, I just need to rendezvous with Byrd. In regards to the SAC question, it's basically a free trade area and cooperation agreement and we have a headquarters in Quito, Ecuador where we can talk about South American stuff. Nothing really there to flagrantly violate. And considering Brazil's already quite socialist really the only person you'll be messing with is Byrd, if you try to go that route. In regards to the Hunger Games thing, hey come on, there's an easily available drawing of Claro that you made yourself. I joined the Diplomacy game as well. Turkey ftw~
