I've run into it quite often, had a whole grammatical debate over it once because the guy perceived not being accepted as an attack.

Grammar and spelling can annoy me at times.

I've seen a character, lets call her Billie, and another player kept writing "Billy" as the name. Like for fucks sake... why write a character sheet when people don't read or refer back to?

As for grammar I can understand minor things like incorrect sentence structure if it's still a well written post and that one section was written oddly. I probably have the same thing and I know I latch onto words and repeat them without thinking. What gets me is the failed use of capitals, punctuation, and failing to enclose a whole sentence in a defined way (eg: "They went to the shops to buy." — Um... Buy what?).

Naturally I would think that people who join a writing forum would come here to also better their skills, but as you pointed out @Gowi, some people get the shits when you correct them so that they can improve.

When you point it out, do they offer to edit?

@Pair of Hearts

Most of the time they'll edit, but the quality of the edits is another issue. The guy in the latest RP I attempted completely fixed up his grammer and spelling, which made me wonder how hard was it to do in the first place. In another RP I told someone to go over their CS and re-adjust things cause it didn't make sense and the edits they had contained remnants of the original problem scattered throughout. He was completely declined.

Maybe I am being a little hard and that's why many of my RPs don't work out, but I always believe quality is more important than filling out your own ego fantasies.

Meanwhile, I'm being a goofy bozo GM for my first tabletop on RPG. As for the first guy you mentioned, maybe he was sleepy. :9

Been in several RPs with another loser in this thread.

I hate it when people submit unfinished sheets. Maybe it's just me, but seeing a sheet in the OOC that's hidden under a hider titled "WIP" rubs me the wrong way.

Seriously, keep the sheet in storage until you finish it and then submit it in the OOC/to the GM/whatever the GM requests of you. It's not asking much.

@Shorticus

I don't particularly feel inclined to name drop in a public thread.

Also, I didn't say it occurred multiple times. Just that when I see a character with that particular attribute it makes me cringe, especially when not well fleshed-out and sort of just added in there for godmodding.

Fair enough! Yeah, no, don't name drop.

But this sounds like it must be a recurring problem because your post mentioned characters, plural. I made assumptions.

I've been at roleplaying for a few years now. I've seen the aforementioned archetype of character many, many times.

Usually they're made by what I can only assume is the younger generation, they almost always have anime faceclaims (and there's nothing wrong with that, especially if that's the trend in the thread), and they're personalities can usually be defined by any song written by Linkin Park in the early 2000's.

I tend to just ignore them and characters like them. If I can't do that, then I'll usually make a character that's not obscenely powerful- but obscenely positive. So much so that their mere presence is like sunlight is to vampires.

How hard is it to send yourself a PM and work on a character sheet that way?

I do that all the time so I don't have to be at home to make adjustments and additions. Plus the BB code will work.

I dunno... I just find it rude to start building a character in someones OOC. It's almost like you want to reserve ideas and such so others can't take them.

Agreed. Gives them a reason to power play their character ridiculously and allows them to do whatever they like because "You won't like me when I'm angry!"

They then proceed to transform.

Am I the only one who gets really irked when someone gives criticism on a sheet, and then they just essentially go "Fuck off, you're not the GM/Co-GM"?

This hasn't happened in my threads recently, but I've seen it a few times while lurking other RPS. Like, I'm a guy that thinks that all opinions/criticism matters. No matter who it's from. I don't know, I just find it really obnoxious when someone says that.

I lurked a bit and saw how someone used the word 'unfair' when a GM refuses to accept more characters from the same demographic to expand cast variety, and having someone backing the plaintiff up.

//shaking head

I think GM or not, criticism or rejection from anyone won't be taken lightly in general.

Honestly, if they can't take a little criticism, then they really need to get off the internet. lol
