SO i notice quite the lack of original settings for sci-fi RPs, and i do not mean small things that happen on Earth 50 years from now. And don't get me started on fandoms. To that end, i'm looking for a band of people who like to spend as much or more time designing the universe as playing in it. However, i am kinda unsure which setting would be the best:
- A ship RP: Every player designs his own race and has a crewman or more from it on a common ship. I do have a GM plot for this but it'S based on the characters waking up with no memories, so no spoilers :P This setting has the least (mandatory) worldbuilding and can actually start up pretty quickly - i've done it beofre so I can also avoid making the same mistakes xD
- A Fleet RP: Take the former and scale it a grade up - Everyone gets a ship operated by their race in a common fleet. As far as plots go, I can imagine being the first explorers to a new galaxy or something like that. Akin to the multiverse RPs that keep popping up here and now, jsut with actual new stuff instead of kitbashing various sci-fi's together.
- NRP: Take our imagination and let it lose. The setting I imagine would be for every player race to be in the phase of "just about to start exploring other star systems" of their development. To make this balanced however, this would be very NUMBERS HEAVY. As in quantified resources, military strength etc - at least for orientation purposes (LAst time i tried developing a combat system out of this it turned out far too complex to be put into practice)
I'd appreciate some thoughts on what form should i pick for this, and possible signups - however keep in mind this will probalby take longer to decide and setup that what you are used to.
