I'm actually really looking forward to their interactions! Emily is almost trying to run away from herself while Kyle is afraid of letting himself slip away!

I think that's what I was going for with Emily: a complete idiot in most regards that is in no way dangerous but capable of exponential destruction in other regards!

Why would a kitchen keep a portable hot plate? It's almost like it exists for the sole purpose of being stolen.

Maybe the kitchen has hot plates for recreational stuff! Like...events and stuff!

On a more serious note, Pretty sure they could have a cooking class or something xP

Hot plates could also be used in science/chemistry classes.
