Quick question...the Jade Emporer is considered one of the highest beings in Chinese mythology but is he higher than the Buddha or one who has achieved that ranks?

Gautama Buddha isn't a part of the Primordial Divinity. The fact that the Jade Emperor was desperate enough to request Gautama Buddha's help is a testament of how dire the situation was. The cooperation between Taoist and Buddhist forces is a major component of Sun Wukong's mythology.

Guan Yu is not the Jade Emperor from the stories. He was elected to the position in 1840AD thereabouts. The Jade Emperor from Sun Wukong's time is a distant predecessor.

As Earnest Evans said, the Taoist and Buddhist... pantheons are unrelated. Think of it as being two nations, with Gautama Buddha and Guan Yu as their respective kings.

Personally, I'd prefer if the party ended quietly and on a good note. The last time someone interrupted this thing in canon, the perpetrator was basically thrown down the Witching Well.
