Name: Helena Bertinelli

Alias: The Huntress

Origin:

Helena Bertinelli was born a princess in a Mafia Empire she blissfully knew nothing of. She knew her parents loved her, and her family loved to get together at her father's house. They would descend their home in Gotham Heights to see musicals in the city, or go to the zoo, or the circus, or the museums to see the dinosaur bones.

It was a happy childhood, until the day cruel men in black masks kidnapped her right after school ended at Saint Sebestation's in the Heights.

What exactly happened to Helena is hard to work out. Police reports suggest various mental and physical traumas, but Don Bertinelli pulled whatever strings necessary to ensure no one would examine his baby girl and put that filth on a report any of his enemies could pay some clerk to get ahold of. Her father told her to put it behind her, that "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger", and encouraged her not to speak of it again.

Not even a year later, a van full of masked gunmen burst into the Bertinelli estate in Gotham Heights, and murdered every living member of the Gotham City Bertinelli family. All except the little girl too numb to be scared; without fear little Helena could think, slipping under the corpse of a still bleeding uncle.

Immediately after Helena was returned to the Sicilian Bertinelli clan, the "mother clan." There was talk of marrying Helena off to a distant cousin, or a rapid riser in the Sicilian scene. It was then one of the greatest assassins of the early 20th century, Giovanni Bertinelli, took Helena with him one early morning to hunt fowl.

Giovanni would later admit perhaps he was pushing himself to find something when he took the girl hunting that morning. His own parents had been murdered in a war within the Cosa Nostra. He knew that drive for vengeance. Just as much as he knew a natural born killer when he saw one; and in Helena, he saw it in spades.

Helena Bertinelli had no childhood after that day. Her training began immediately and unrestricted. She holds a degree in Corporate Communications from the Sorbonne, and both a masters and PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics. She achieved this by the age of 22 while receiving training in secret from Giovanni and Lady Shiva.

Where her father was a quick minded and ruthless businessman and Don, Helena had become a true master in the art and science of international business. Applying such radical approaches to business as the Theory of Constraints, Lean theory, and Six Sigma, Helena bought failing and crumbling business after failing and crumbling business only to turn downsize, raise product quality, and worker efficiency...and in turn cost efficiency of the bottom line. Sometimes called a 'corporate terrorist', the result was nearly inevitable, what businesses would assist her the most in her ultimate goals were kept while all others were sold off piece by piece to the highest bidder.

When Helena Bertinelli returned to Gotham City it was on the cover of Business Week and being covered by Bloomberg and CNN. Using the ultimate power broker of money, Helena used to the fact that she could make more of it than anyone else available to usher her return to not only the Gotham Mafia, but to the American Mafia as a

whole. Now the majority owner but never direct manager of multi corporations, Helena has turned her focus squarely on Gotham City's Mafia...and her quest to ruin it from the inside-out. Taking on the mission given to her by God the day she played dead under the corpse of an uncle, Helena has decided a theatrical method of hitting the Mafia from the outside while secretly exposing and bleeding them from the inside by taking on the mantle of a former feared and dangerous enemy of the Gotham City Mafia: The Huntress.

She is neither villain or hero, merely a very dangerous and resourceful young woman on a fanatical quest for blood and revenge. A quest that can only end in her own death or the death of the Gotham City Mafia as it is known, or had ever been known. A fact she has willingly accepted.

Attributes:

Helena Bertinelli is an Olympic level athlete, tall and athletically built. Her training regiment remains extreme, and the equal of anything the NFL or Navy SEALs can offer.

She is one of the premiere marksmen in the world.

With an extensive and often times merciless martial arts training record, Helena has forged herself into an incredible martial artist.

On the surface a Technohobbyist, behind the scenes a technician, mechanic, and engineer that has been trained from the start to create her own tools and equipment, to depend on no one. Still room to improve as a hacker, and has no experience with hyper-advanced technology.

After a long campaign to successfully embed herself within the American Mafia, on top of her Sicilian upbringing, Helena holds all the resources and power of a Mafia Don without many realizing it. Thus far Helena has primarily used this as an intelligence resource.

Stomping Grounds:

Helena Bertinelli, and the Huntress, are currently based out of Gotham City and don't look to be leaving (by choice) any time soon. Helena has purchased and redesigned her father's Gotham Heights estate, while purchasing a high rise flat in a posh, selective, apartment building near the banking district. Recently Helena has purchased a historic four story marble building in Old Gotham that, among it's many other uses over the years, was once the legitimate business "front" for Helena's father.

People of Note:

Lady Shiva, former teacher, rumored lover.

Giovanni Bertinelli, mentor, near death due to old age.

Guiseppe Bertinelli, cousin, Gotham born and not present during the Massacre. Remained in Gotham City with his mother.

Hayley Alcott, executive assistant, the second most powerful person in Helena's holdings empire.

Character Goals:

To see just which side of light and dark Helena eventually lands on. I'l let the events of the IC determine her path.

Sample Post:

It took roughly over a second for her mask's optics to switch to thermal, and for the pnuematic crossbow to be drawn from it's holster upon her right thigh into her hand. Two shots were fired even before she hopped airborn. Each man stood out in various shades of red and orange, making each an infinitely easier target to her than she was to them. When each bolt hit it's mark, both men began to scream over the unmistakable high pitched buzz of electricity--zapping them until the hard 'thud' of bodies hitting the ground, leaving them shivering and shaking.

One more was pistol whipped with the crossbow after she landed. Five, the count in her mind sounded off. She wasn't moving fast enough. He was already on another, but Helena had bought herself some time with the electric bolts: a number of the remaining men suddenly went still at the sound. And then one of them began firing randomly through the electric green smoke.

The trademark 'pop' of a Batcave grapple went off; metal screaching and clinking into metal as the three pronged titanium grapple hook attached itself to the barrel of the random firing goon's gun, and sending it flying the air when she depressed the 'return' button. But the Huntress didn't want the gun, she only wanted it away from the scared man firing at random. He'd almost hit one of his own, and the Huntress. A heartbeat after pressing the return button, the Huntress ducked.

The gun flew just over her head, smacking into the head of a man behind her. The crossbow rose again, trained a thermal figure making for an exit. A hiss of air pressure, and the thermal shadowed figure tumbled to the ground. A crossbow bolt sticking out the back of his left thigh. "I'm shot!" The man's voice rose in a frightened shrill. She let him squeal, running towards a duo of men with their backs pressed again each other.

It was a little more tricky than she was used to, the aerial motion of a sideways somersault. If she'd had time to think about it, she might not have even risked it. But by the time the second thought hit her, she was already at full speed; already springing off her feet with a surge from her hips to her thighs to her toes. She had to reach a little further than she would've liked with her hands, but in the end the result went as planned: her hands took hold of the crown of each man's head, and smashed them together.

It was instinct that told her she wasn't going to have room to land on her feet. Instead, she tucked her head in and down, and rolled as her body returned to the ground through the force of gravity. It was just dumb luck she rolled right into one of the last men, her left gloved fist exploding forward, crushing into the main's groin. She heard him gasp for air, through pain, as his weapon dropped. When his body recoiled and his hands shot to his ground, his dropping chin met her rising knee at a very rude force of impact.

Her right hand rose again, her trigger finger squeezing. The bolt thudded into the heavy warehouse wooden door a full step before the running man reached for the door's handle. Her left hand drew the other small crossbow, and she fired, it might seem, without looking at an odd upward angle--smacking into the control panel for the warehouse loading bay door. He was finishing up, and the opening bay door would let the smoke rush out. So the man she'd stopped at the door could see just who had crashed their party.

And so he could see both crossbows aimed at his head. "Move and you'll never have the option of children again."

Name: Jason Todd
Alias: Red Hood AKA Arkham Knight
Jason Todd.. the 2nd Robin, first appearing #408 in 1987, and dying and 1988. And among all of the MALE Robins, he was Robin for a short bit of time. Jason Todd was a street orphan, now obviously Jason Todd, the street orphan had to feed himself. He decided that he could borrow off a tire off a car, this not succeeding, Batman confronts him. And probably to say........... those tires are the Bat-Mobile. And say for some reason... Batman meets Jason Todd this way and that's the first meeting between the two. Bruce has Jason put in a school for trouble use, but actually it seems the school is a HQ for a gang of bad guys. Unfortunately Bruce and Jason Todd beat up the bad men and Jason Todd becomes Robin. But before he could wear the Robin suit, he had 6 months of intense training. This potent training made him think Gotham was a powerful strong place, but while Dick Grayson had all of these acrobatic skills that Jason Todd didn't have, Jason Todd was just...................... angst. Bruce learned if Dick learned to control his rage, he would be an AMAZING Robin. But if Bruce didn't take Jason Todd, he would just be a crime unaccountable for Batman as a sidekick. On Jason's first adventure with Batman, he heard of a villain that he has heard of a bit, so he does a bit research. But when doing research he finds out that Harvey Dent has killed his father, Willis Todd. When he finds this out, he is flooded with anger so much anger, when he sees Two-Face, he goes right up to Two-Face and attempts to choke Two-Face to perish. "I HATE YOU TWO FACE! I'LL KILL YOU AND THIS'LL BE YOUR GRAVE!" Batman was able to at least catch up with Jason and pull him off, and they both stopped Two-Face. And this trend would follow Jason all the way to his grave. Jason remembered thinking of his father over and over, and he couldn't get over his father dead and he threw breakdowns while he was Robin. But.. Jason was a bit of a pighead... he didn't follow orders. One time, Jason and Batman we're planning a simple get-in-get out get inside or get out. And Jason just jumped down and started hitting and attacking; Jason ruins the whole plan. But then, Jason would start using guns, even though Batman wouldn't allow and disliked guns. Batman didn't approve of Jason's angst behavior in crime. And Jason knew that, but when he found out Two-Face killed his father, this followed up. Until Nightwing came back, Jason was all happy. And Dick and Jason actually became friends, and he gave him his phone number. Jason remembered every last word Nightwing said before he left him in those moments. If you need me, I'll always be there, here's my phone number. He was ALWAYS ALWAYS, being compared to Dick Grayson sometimes and he didn't like that. One moment, Jason would become even more violent, and just standing at a balcony, he was just standing there, BATMAN zipping to the scene. Robin, WHAT HAPPENED? Basically Jason stands there, and he looks down. Batman looks at Robin, with a stern look and basically what happens is this man raped, another woman. And Jason kills this man, throwing him off, lying to Batman. And Todd makes up a terrible excuse to this saying; "He tripped..." Batman doesn't believe this but having no answer or reason to prove otherwise, he asks. Did Felipe fall.. or trip...? After that basically Batman knew Jason was getting violent. So a couple years ported, a death in the FAMILY was created and a spot in the hole was created for Jason Todd. And when Batman got so mad and DONE with Jason, Jason was angst. He was filled with dread, he thought Batman didn't understand. This caused him to STOMP right out of Wayne Manor in front of Bruce Wayne himself. Jason Todd goes to his mother, well he thinks that's his mother. He learns that Katherine is not is biological mother. Jason uses a item that he got from Bruce while he was Robin, using this to track down his mother. He learned his mother was a aid worker, so learning so he traveled there. His mother's actually WORKING for Joker, at least Joker is blackmailing his mother for her to work for him. So Jason unaware of this is about to fall into his death ported in 1988. Joker beats Jason with a crowbar, INSIDE of his ROBIN costume and his mother is in there with him inside of a warehouse. Batman is about to arrive, but then the bomb goes off, and Batman is too late. And everything blows. When Robin dies, his grave is placed.. Bruce is depressed by this several months after Jason dies. ..
6 MONTHS LATER.
Jason returns from the dead, soon but no one is really sure how. And Tim is took as the new 3rd ROBIN. But when Robin was... Jason Todd was really angry about this, but Tim was better than him. It took 1 week for Jason to find the Bat-Cave, looking at the old location Batman and him worked at. Soon Red Hood was so mad at Batman, he looked around the world in Gotham for tips and tricks for dead tricks around Gotham. But instead of getting Batman... he thought he could get Tim. So looking around, he looked for bombs and he knew Tim was just becoming Robin and the Bat-Family was coming, but he wasn't really apart of it. Doing so, he dressed like Batman with guns and gadgets fancy gadgets, looking around and dressing like Batman. With guns, soon enough he was armed with guns and fancy gadgets and shot around Gotham, and turned most of Gotham against Batman, but soon Nightwing battled Jason, and Nightwing knew this was Jason. After attempting, what it seemed to beat Jason. Jason disappeared.. and returned in;

February 1st, 2016

Name:
Courtney Whitmore

Alias:
Stargirl

Origin:
Year of the Monkey: 1992
All stories begin somewhere. Courtney's live may have started here, but her tale really began before. Her mother and father had wed right out of high school. Courtney wasn't born much later. Due to the date of her summer birth, it had been obvious she was conceived before marriage. Still, the couple were happy, for a while.

Year of the Dog: 1994
Most people would have described their marriage as bliss. Everyone who knew the happy couple never thought they'd break up. No one saw the cracks. The yelling, the crying. Soon it was exposed that Courtney's paternal father had only married her mother our of pressure. Because he had "knocked her up". Susan had been devastated. She moved back in with her parents and cut out all contact with her ex. Courtney was only two.

The Early Years: 1995-2007 (3-15)
Courtney's mother changed her last name back to Whitmore and no more was spoke about the matter. It never really bothered Courtney. It just meant her mother was hers and only hers. She didn't have to share like the other kids her age. It also didn't hurt that her Grandparents were "totally awesome" as the little girl would say. However that began to change as she grew older. After her Grandparents passed when she was twelve she suffered a bout of depression. After that she had a new desire to know her father. At first she accepted her mother's unwillingness to tell her. Then, as she reached her teen years she resented her mother for never telling her anything about her father. Their screaming matches were stuff of legend. Each one lashing out to protect their wounded feelings. Eventually Courtney stopped pushing, though she has tried to find out on her own. It also didn't help that her mother began dating once more.

Trouble in Paradise: 2007 (15)
The gulf between mother and daughter widened when her mother started going steady with a man named Pat. Courtney would go out of her way to be mean to him to drive him off. It only served to make her mother even more angry with her. Despite all of Courtney's protests her mother married him becoming a Dugan. Courtney threatens all manner of misdeeds and bodily harm to retain the last name Whitmore. Pat never seemed terribly upset, a stark counter point to her mother's disappointment. This only pissed Courtney off more.

Things go from bad to worse when Pat moves the family to Nebraska. Blue-freaking-Valley, Nebraska. She stopped talking to her mother and stepfather completely. She started staying away from home as much as she could and ended up making friends that didn't exactly encourage good choices. Courtney was still in full on rebellion mode when it was announced that her mother was pregnant.

Year of the Rat: 2008 (16)
Courtney's little sister Patricia was born just a few months into the worst year of her life. Just days after the birth Courtney gets expelled from school for fighting. The two kids she fought were also expelled. Pat bundles her off to summer camp which was basically a boot camp with pink signs. There Courtney makes the first of her life long friends, Mary. She had anger issues like Courtney and when the two weren't yelling at each other, they devised annoying pranks to pull on the camp "instructors". Though the two were separated after the camp, they kept in lose contact through texts, emails and phone calls.

Year of the Tiger: 2010 (18)
Courtney graduated high school, no thanks to her black mark of expulsion. She packs up the next day and announced her intention to go on a road trip to "find herself" with a two of her girl friends. Her mother at this point had pretty much given up on her wayward daughter and didn't offer any protests. There was just relief that she was out of the house. It was, surprisingly enough to Courtney, Pat who had nearly thrown a fit. He only agreed that she could go if she and her friends all enrolled (and attended and passed) a self defense class for a month. After they did so, Courtney and her friends flew to the East Coast where they meet up with Mary. From there they road tripped cross country to California. Mary and Courtney dropped off the other two friends at their college and drove back to New York. From there Courtney reluctantly flew back home.

Turtle versus the Hare: Late 2010-2012 (19-20)
Once back home Courtney packs up everything she wanted in her car, sells the rest and moves out. She rebuffed all attempts to reconcile with her mother and Pat. She gets odd jobs here and there, but never stays in one place for long. After a while she ended up living out of her car, unable to pay rent. Courtney, at this point begins to settle into a depression and wonders what she's going to do with the rest of her life.

While trapped in her depressive lethargy Courtney meets Dylan. He volunteered at the local soup kitchen. For a while the two flirted, but they never became more than just friends. Dylan was the one who introduced her to a shelter. The Woman's Shelter helped Courtney begin to feel like she had purpose again. Courtney ended up being a full time volunteer and even started filling out paperwork to join the Peace Corps.

Year of the Snake: Start 2013 (21)
Courtney shakes off her depression and all is pretty right in the world. What she never expected was to get approached by an alien. Called himself Starman. Or as he later confessed, Jack Knight. Infact, it turned out that he wasn't so alien. Years before he had left earth with the Comic staff and went to live on another planet. He was kind of sketchy about the details, no matter how hard Courtney tried to get him to tell her. She fell in love with his stories about outer space. Even though she thought he was a loon, making it all up even if there was a legitimate alien running around named Superman.

After a few months Jack confesses that he's dying. He then takes Courtney out on a trip with his Staff. Afterwards he tells her that he wants her to have his staff. Courtney is floored by his actions. At first she refuses. After all, what would she do with it? Jack had laughed at that. Then he told her to be a hero. She could right wrongs. For a while she does truly think he's lost it. Then he tells her that he can see greatness in her. That she was meant for better. With the Staff she could do better, even if it was just for the people she help with her volunteer work. Once she agreed to take the Staff Jack vanished and she never saw him again.

Year of the Horse: 2014 (22)
Courtney's start of her heroine career did not have an auspicious start. It was more a series of disasters barely adverted as she learned how to use the Staff's powers. More than once she went to the hospital with bullet wounds. One of those trips, Pat showed up and confronted her. Courntey ended up telling him everything and to her surprise he agreed to help her. Turned out Pat used to know Jack from his line of work. Pat's an ex-spy with his friend Sylvester Pemberton, a mad tech genius.

Pat takes her to Sylvester. Sylvester had been working on tech modeled off the Cosmic Staff. With Courtney agreeing to loan the Staff for a bit, he created her a piece called the Cosmic Belt. When she asked why, Pat said it was because he wanted her to be safe. Sylvester insisted that Courtney keep in touch with him. She didn't mind much since they had become friends. She even liked his sister Merry.

Year of Sheep: 2015 (23)
Pat, after getting her the belt, trains her. He taught her everything he knew and even helped her with her hero-ing. With the assistance of her step-father, she becomes a rather good superhero.

Turning Full Circle: Current: 2016 (24)
Courtney moved to New York City at the behest of her friend Mary and also the Pembertons. She quickly garnered a reputation as Stargirl. She even gained a few rogues of her own. Though most of them are currently serving time in jail.

Attributes:
Powers: Courtney has no superpowers. However the cosmic staff grants Courtney powers:
  • Rapid flight
  • levitation of objects
  • Energy manipulation
The staff can also:
  • absorb stellar energy, which can then be manipulated into defensive force fields, and offensive energy blasts of incredible power.
    • Courtney can use both powers at once to protect herself from atmospheric damage in high velocity flight
  • Receive Courtney's mental commands from a distance
  • Attune itself to the user. It is difficult to quickly change the staff's affiliation.

Skills: Some martial arts. However she is mainly best at brawling due to her personality. Though she does know, and can use stealth if it is required. Use of the Cosmic Staff and Belt. Trash-talk.

Equipment: The Comic Converter Belt:
  • Through a process called "Solar Energy Conversion" the Belt converts cosmic energy (star light) into a very useful and flexible force. The uses are listed below:
    • Enhanced Strength, Agility, Speed, and Stamina
    • Shooting Stars: which are light forms which disrupt electric devices and organic nervous systems.
    • Aura Connection: the Converter Belt is attuned to the aura of the wielder

Shiv
Shiv is the daughter of the supervillain Dragon King. She has a grudge against Stargirl.

Character Goals:
To mainly have fun. Courtney is a sassy, cocky girl. But she'll always be there for people. Everyone else seems so serious, I thought a light-hearted person would be good to include.

Sample Post:
The gravel grated Courtney's hands as she skidded across the road. The curb bit ugly into her back and flipped her onto the sidewalk. The young woman groaned reaching blindly for the Cosmic Staff. Her hand only came up with open air. Blue eyes snapped open. She cast about, desperate.

"Looking for this?"

Courtney inhaled and braced herself as she sat up and looked at Shiv. The tall woman smirked, stroking the Staff. Her own dragon headed staff had been cast away for the new prize.

"Give it back." Courtney croaked. She wiped her mouth as blood threatened.

"No, I think not." Shiv crooned as she pointed the crook head at Courtney. There was a moment of silence then Shiv's face twisted in anger. Courtney couldn't help the smile that creeped onto her face.

"Trouble?" She taunted, probably a bit too cocky. Her back and hands ached from road rash, but the sight of seeing Shiv throw a tantrum was almost worth it. "I guess it doesn't like you."

CRACK

Courtney looked up at the sky dazed. Shiv loomed over her, staff in hand. It took her a few precious seconds to process that she had been whipped across the face by her own Staff. Above her Shiv was yelling something. However Courtney's attention was more focused on the Staff being raised for another blow. Anger rose in her bosom and she grabbed a hold of it, using it.

Focusing her anger Courtney kicked out at Shiv's legs as the Staff came down. It unbalanced the already mentally unbalanced woman enough that as the Staff came down Courtney was able to turn out of it's path. She winced as it hit the concrete, hard. She hoped the Staff was durable enough for that.

As her mind provided commentary as she reached out for the Staff. The metal was warm under her hands. Every time she held it she never ceased to be in awe of it. The warm reached into her very bones and soothed her. Shiv shouted and pulled on the Staff. Courtney wrapped herself around it and with the barest mental suggestion, Shiv went flying away. Launched off by the residual cosmic energy.

Shiv landed on her feet, much more gracefully than Courtney. Her face still twisted in a snarl. "Who are you?" She hissed out. She sounded almost like the dragon her father was trying to pretend to be.

"Stargirl." Courtney said as she pulled herself to her feet. She wobbled a bit, leaning on her Staff for support. She tensed as Shiv moved. But Shiv moved back, away from Courtney. At first the woman was confused, then she heard the sound of sirens. Right.

Shiv vanished. Not even a trace of her two toned hair. Courtney turned to look at the museum and winced. One of the Greek pillars was gone. Well, not all the way gone. Some of the bottom was still there. And then there was the rubble strewn about the street. Of course Courtney rathered that result than her body smeared on said pillar. Somehow she didn't think the cops would take that as a reasonable excuse.

Courtney tightened her grip on the staff. It hummed just a little as she lifted it then sat on it like a witch on her broomstick. A little maniacal laugh burst out of her.

"Some superhero I am." She murmured to herself through the laugh, looking up to the stars. "Jack..." She sighed and lifted further up into the air as the first cop car rounded the corner. Time to go. She turned her Staff around and drifted off, lazily to hopefully conserve the power. She still had no idea how much she had used, nor how much was left. If only Jack had stuck around to at least give her the basics.

Courtney watched the lights of the museum fade into the wash. In the sky she was sandwiched between two sets of stars. She looked back up and wished Jack peace. Then she added, "At least nothing was stolen, even if I got my butt kicked." She closed her eyes and imagined Jack laughing, maybe even proud.
