All it does is put it on a list so it's easier to find for future reference. Unfortunately, you don't get any notifications whenever someone posts - unless they mention or quote you, that is.

Yeah, probably just a bit, but it does make it easier for people to get interactions if they don't know what they want/can do with their character(s).
