At precisely midnight in Buff Bay, Jamaica, holiday revelers are shocked to see a fifteen-foot (4.5m) long trilobite crawl out of the ocean, yellow eyes blazing in fury. Their stupor is shocked into action when the creature tears a pet dog into pieces- civilians and police quickly kill the creature with a volley of gunfire. Biologists and the press descend on the little Caribbean hamlet, vocally regretting that such an important find had to be killed. Their disappointment is short-lived.

Passengers on a Perth to Darwin flight over Australia are shocked to find a 100-meter (328 ft) long creature something like a pterosaur tracking their flight for thirty minutes before it flies off.

A cargo ship in the North Sea, just a few miles from Malmo, is alarmed to spot and photograph a gigantic octopus-like creature with too many tentacles and glaring yellow eyes following them.

In a remote part of the Qinghai province of China, a 32 foot tall (10m) creature that looks like a cross between a bear and an ape descends from the mountains and destroys two villages before the PLA puts it down with helicopter gunships. Seven die.

Car-sized footprints are discovered in the interior of Madagascar, a swarm of cat-sized mosquitoes in Panama, glowing 17-foot-wide (5m) yellow eyes under the water in the American harbor of Baltimore, a massive 60 meter (197 ft) bipedal lizard roaring out a challenge on the outskirts of Manaus before retreating into the Brazilian jungle.

Finally, the unthinkable happens.
The quiet Japanese city of Okayama is visited by the specter of death, in the form of a giant salamander. In the course of an inland stroll, the creature crushes vehicles underfoot and collapses buildings with a casual flick of the tail. The public is unprepared and doesn't get any clear instructions from the government. There doesn't even seem to be malevolence in its giant yellow eyes- it's just a big animal walking among smaller animals.
Finally, after much deliberation in the halls of power in Tokyo, the creature is killed by a massive joint airstrike undertaken by both the JASDF and the USAF. The total death toll in Okayama- 196 dead, more than a thousand injured. General consensus calls this miraculously light, and the world wonders who's next.

As the press spreads hysteria and paranoia among the public, the governments of the world debate on how to best meet this new challenge. The Japanese military increases recruitment efforts and lobbies the Diet for reform on rules on engagement. Russia doubles naval patrols off their coast. The governments of Argentina, Poland, Nigeria, Indonesia, and Vietnam triple orders on heavy artillery. Australia, Sweden, Myanmar, Saudi Arabia, and Brazil reopen their nuclear weapons programs while Iran, Israel, and South Africa reveal their possession of such weapons. Nations with mutual defense treaties bicker over the exact terms of the agreement, as nationalism seems to suddenly be on the rise. By all appearances it's every man for himself. Amongst it all, giant monster incidents increase.

Almost unnoticed in the general furor is the opening of a new United Nations office, the United Nations Kaiju Executive Office (UNKEO for short, catchy anagrams are hard these days). Based out of The Hague, UNKEO's mandate is to observe and research kaiju, advise the civil and military authorities of threatened countries, and develop weapons and technology to meet the new threat. A diverse and international team, UNKEO will be on the frontlines of this new world war- humans versus kaiju.

Alright, so as you might have gathered, this RP focuses on the human side of your average kaiju story. When Megalon or Gyaos or Gappa begins trashing Tokyo, someone has to organize the evacuation, lead those tanks into battle, and come up with the brilliant plan to defeat or at least slow down the rampaging behemoth. That someone is you.
You play as either military personnel or a civilian adviser attached to the UNKEO project. It's up to you to answer the hard questions and routinely figure out how to handle a horrible nightmare scenario. There will be plenty of player efficacy, and your actions will have consequences- mishandle a situation, and you may be responsible for many deaths, or even killed yourself.
However, on the flip side, it is entirely possible for players to completely change the world around them. If the players' weapons and tactics are effective, expect armies across the world to adopt them in their own fights against this encroaching enemy. Scientist characters especially have this opportunity. Studying the creatures can result in huge leaps forward in biology, studying weapons against them huge leaps forward in engineering or applied physics. Yes, it is possible to eventually build mecha in this RP and use them to punch kaiju in the face, but don't expect to roll out Gipsy Danger in a day. For any major project there will be prototypes, testing, setbacks, trial-and-error.
As a final note, this is a wholly original universe- King Kong, Gamera, Godzilla, or other established monsters will not be making appearances.
