She was designed as a school project. She was designed to talk and be intelligent enough to think for herself, so her creator could get a good grade! That's her purpose, and she's already done that.

I'll meet you halfway: what if she's reprogrammed so she's seeking a companion, but since she knows she was reprogrammed, she could actively try not to have feelings for people, and therefore act like she doesn't want anybody, even though she's being forced to want a partner.

I don't think you understand what I'm saying. She's reprogrammed to want a romantic partner, and inside, she would. But since she knows she that that's just programming, she'd know or believe that those aren't her actual feelings, and therefore do her best not to act on them? Understand now?
