@ihinka, Well, Teagan and Regan having a moment is basically you playing with yourself, isn't it? That's why I do not post about Dragon and Spectrum.

@Regitnui My plan was to make boredom the initial trigger, and then have the trigger change over the course of the RP once Terell finally realizes that why he changes has more to do with his desire to be a hero than just boredom. He will, in effect, get over his feelings of being perpetually average.

Also, a worse trigger would be hulking out when hungry. Hangry Hulk is certainly less pleasurable than bored Hulk.

@AtomicNut I was actually about to suggest you swing our way I'm sure by the time you get there, Regan would be throughly grilled Plus it's basically me playing with myself... That did come out right... Or didn't it So you're welcome

@RegitnuiThink I'll take @ihinka's suggestion now that the misunderstanding was cleared. Nothing like a bit of a cop talk.

@Afro Samurai, Well, that was more or less the trigger in the Marvel Zombies universe...

If that's what you're going for, wouldn't it make sense to make the trigger than he hulks out when his 'heroism' thing is triggered? Else he's going to turn back every time he gets into a fight, and spend his time as a giant monster watching cartoons on a slow afternoon.

This. That's the big issue I see with the trigger as-is. A fight, by definition, is very not boring.

It's my question as well. Fights are antithetical to boredom, so he's essentially a normal.

The latter half of your statement is my intent. As a 'mutate's' transformation is triggered (or tends to be triggered) by a certain short-sighted flare of emotion (anger, jealousy, etc) and in rare cases a persistent mood (Doc Samson), his is simply something abnormal and not quite useful--as, in his subconscious, he does not feel useful at all as someone whose greatest achievement in life is working at a Chinese restaurant. Initially, he isn't going to be doing much fighting because of the strange trigger; that is, until he gets bored of villains attacking the city all the time and decides to do something about it.

Just as one's psychology changes as he goes through things in life, so will Terell's trigger. Coping with this 'curse' as the OOC mentions is precisely what Terell is doing, just in an especially odd manner. Plus, he isn't enraged when he does change, he's just incredibly bored. Also, it isn't that the moment he is bored he is going to change, it has to be over an extended period of time. It may also happen when he is depressed, and if him reverting to human form while in the midst of a fight is a problem then it may also trigger if the villain (or whomever he is fighting) taunts him, makes fun of him, etc. His transformation is triggered by more than vain boredom.

EDIT: There are people who are genuinely un-entertained by fights or other things normally thought of as 'exciting' if they've seen enough of them. One builds a resolve, and in some cases apathy toward such things--which, as paradox, can also cause one to act and try to prevent said thing while still having no true investment in what is happening. One simply intervenes because he is tired of seeing it.

Speaking for myself, I think if you went into greater detail on the trigger and the specifics, as well as maybe some examples in his background, it could work.

Pain is exciting. By definition. No matter what your state of mind getting hurt will trigger 'excitement', which can then lead to emotions such as fear, anger, or in some cases arousal. But pain cannot be 'boring' to a normal human mind. If someone were to encounter pain as boring that would require a seriously messed-up brain chemistry, as the excited reaction to pain is as fundamental to the human mind as something like our survival instinct, or human empathy.

So effectively, he's going to be turned normal again by exposure to pain. Even if fights bore him, somehow, pain will always revert him back to normal. While usually when you're in a situation that causes pain that's exactly when you don't want to become normal.

While I am highly amused at the idea of a Doomsday-looking monster watching Spongebob while supers are fighting in the background, it seems to me like this character won't be able to do much. Unless his trigger actually fundamentally changes he won't be able to participate in any real combat, and if he actually pisses anybody off they can kill him with a handgun and a book of insults.

@ihinka I do the whole narrative thing. Spectrum's powers are story-based, not math.
