Aye, meant to say something here after he posted it but I got a bit busy. We discussed everything in PMs, so no worries~

I'll be adding a bit to Isil's history regarding that soon enough~

@Rune_Alchemist@hagroden

In that case, I approve it. Just make sure not to take too much liberty in your combat and making it impossible for others to win every time you get in a fight, alright? You may move it to the characters section. Also be sure that you guys work something out so you aren't so codependent in the rp one or the other can't post without the other. It could slow the rp down if you need the other and they become unavailable suddenly.

I might not be making much sense, I'm just trying say be careful essentially lol

@Too Old 4 This

And that character looks fine to me, going more traditional sub-terrain culture, I dig it. You might have a friend in the form of another player here in a bit too that you can discuss gnome hijinks with lol

(and the different gnome cultures)

@Spirit, Actually, a question; is Shamir too weak, magic-wise?

Aye, I'll be careful about that stuff. I don't imagine Isil doing much fighting anyways, at least not unless directly challenged in a wizard duel like in the opening post.

As for the codependency thing...I'll keep an eye out. I don't imagine Isil is going to be too controlling over him, at least in public, so that should be fine.

@Letter Bee

Eh not really. This is a learning rp. He was weighted on hand and foot for most of his life so it's natural he's a bit weaker than most I would say, I'll admit he's weaker than many other people established so far but I would say in terms of power scaling it would be Ilisfier tied with Garuda, then alexander in terms of potential, then shamir and blixxi tied. But you also have to remember that's ok to be less powerful than others, it gives a story drive. And the only reason I say the others are stronger is because of the hard work their characters are said to put into maintaining their magical abilities. The more they study and gain experience the stronger they will become. And besides if everyone was on the same level of magical strength it would just be boring you know?

That being said as a physical fighter, it would go newcomer Kyvir since he's a gladiatorial slave from birth, then garuda tied with shamir who both have skill with their weapons, then Alexander tied with blixxi and Ilisfer, who have all been established as more magic-y mages. And the only reason Blixxi would be at the bottom of both tier lists in this example is her lack of control over her magic, even though in terms of raw ability it's the strongest potential magic. Since it's useless to have an overpowered talent if you go to cast a massive flood and just teleport summon a bunch of bunnies. Which I love to death because we don't need EVERYONE to be overpowered, that's why I put the weakness section, to make you take a step back and think what's fair for me to not be strong in.

In the end, this is shaping up to be a fun and excellent rp and I'm really looking forward to it. It's all about balances. And that my dearest B, is my lesson on the concept of power scaling. Nobody is going to have fun if everyone is too strong to be defeated.

Though honestly I think it would be dope to see Ilisfer fight Garuda or Shamir take a crack at Kyvir. And always remember the biggest flaw of having a tail or horns, they look cool, but they're HUGE weak spots in 1v1 combat, just like long hair.

Hehe yeah. I like my gnomes less hippie and more nerdy, but the race should be diverse and I can see the above ground gnomes leaning more in the direction of fairy/elven influences. I'll limit myself to subterranean gnomish culture (rock gnomes?) in my expositional writing.

....Yo.

'Scool if I make an Arcane Paladin? Not sure exactly how we're working with "Schools" of magic here. Is it DnD schools, Elder Scrolls schools, or do we just kinda...wing it?

Or is Divine Magic a thing? I'm kinda just dropping in so I'm missing like half the lore tbh

Kinda wing'n it honestly. Not everyone is familiar with DnD so I'm honestly playing it pretty loose with the rules here. I'm trying not to alienate anyone not familiar with any particular thing you know? If you want my advice, Ill say go with Elder Scrolls since it's a bit simplified there and gives you a broad niche. You can be a paladin if you accept the fact that in this world every god is just wishful thinking except for 3 that have been lost to time. Nobody knows about the true gods at all. As long as you're cool with having a fake pantheon your character is using as their primary faith, go for it. Though I will say this since I just did a speech about power balance, strong with the sword weaker with magic, strong with magic you're a weaker fighter with the sword. We have to maintain character balance.

Divine magic is just another extension of magic application people believe to be the work of their divine pantheon. That's really all you need, you learn the lore as we go I designed the rp to be that way if anyone actually wants to know anything they can just seek it out. So it's like people making some stuff up others are just asking me as they make characters and I'm fine with all of it as long as we handwave it when my actual lore is explained in case of conflicts.

Nah, I'm gonna try to go Facetank Paladin with magic as more of a booster for his combat skills. He's mostly here to learn about enchanting, because magic gear yo.

That works just fine. The school is fine with all people trying to wield magic regardless if they're full blown mages or not, just don't expect there to be anyone to train you with a sword.

My final question would put that to bed, actually: should all the students be relatively young (college-aged by human standards) or would it be alright, if a bit odd, that a relatively older character (mid 40's-50's's dwarf) came to join the school?

@Legion02, I hope you don't mind if Shamir approaches Alex to ask if the latter's father, though a tyrant, can help him retake his father's kingdom...

Sorry for double post
Unless Shamir is able to get range on Kyvir, it won't be a very fair fight. Shamir is likely to be a lot faster than Kyvir, but Kyvir is pretty light on his feet for the mountain he is. That, plus Shamir is an "Average" swordsman, whereas Kyvir is only alive because he was the best fighter Surthay could produce. Right now, the only people I'm seeing that could take him on would be Alexander, Garuda, or obviously, Isilfarrel.

However, with that all being said, his greatest weakness is his loyalty. Unless ordered to do otherwise by Isilfarrel, he won't attack or get into fights with people. Even if someone picks a fight with him, he will play it defensively and do little actual damage to them, only doing enough to stop them from continuing to attack him.

Actually I would personally disagree, Shamir is and he's less experienced so Shamir would without a doubt be wrecked in sword combat. But that doesn't mean he can't be creative in his approach, as a tiefling you have the bodily weak points that an experienced fighter would know to take advantage of to get in a few good shots, but magically he can be over powered rather fast. I agree Shamir vs Kyvir is a poor match up, but with more experienced sword fighters it would be interesting to see them fight. Alexander seems to be more inclined magically than physically, so right now the only toe to toe fights I can see happening is Garuda cs Kyvir or Isilfarrel vs Garuda, since Garuda I would rank as the close second strongest magically and Kyvir out classing him physically but potentially not creatively. If that makes sense. Though that's just me speculating since you know your characters better than me and their limitations, I'm only going to step in if you start getting superman syndrome and never lose.

And just so we're clear, I'm not arguing I'm just having fun discussing.
