~~Seleth~~

@PaulHaynek@AzureKnight

Seleth simply nodded as Doctor Elma left and the others walked in. Alicia. Ecthel. Mira...and the Princess? She could all assume the reason they were here. After all, her victory wasn't likely expected. She could still hardly believe it herself, but as some say the goddesses work in mysterious ways. The Dark Elf's expression remained netural, as Alicia spoke. She seemed like she was upset. Understandable. The princess was rightly angry. From an outwards perspective it did seem like she had gone overboard.

...haaa, this was going to be tiring.

"Alicia." Seleth spoke coolly. "I am glad you are here. I was slightly concerned that you may have done something foolish when you ran off the other day." She then turned her attention back to the princess. How to explain? Should she mention the drugs? No, that would be foolish. Aside from the fact it wasn't her place to reveal something, she wasn't sure they'd believe her. As well...if possible, she wanted to avoid Varjan getting into more trouble until she could speak with him once again.

"...I could say, Princess, that what happened was an accident and not the intended outcome I aimed for, but I have to wonder if you'd believe me." Seleth winced from her wounds as she walked to her, holding her side lightly as she addressed the princess. "...you see, I have a spell that amplifies the power of a a spell. An amplification field of sorts. Any spell that runs through it will be temporarily strengthened..." Seleth's gaze shifted to the side. Despite her cool attitude, it was at least evident that she was concerned about the outcome of events as well. "I hid one of my mirrors behind me. You know, the spell that reflects something back at the attacker. I set up this field in front of me before using one of my lances...I intended for it to be a distraction, but Varjan and I seemed to have the same idea. He reflected my spell back at me - and it bounced off the mirror and..." By that time, she would have guessed the drugs had exhausted him so he was unable to defend himself. Seleth sighed, straightening her posture.

"Mhm, it doesn't matter. You all should go be with Varjan. He needs you more than I do." She replied coldly, particularly giving Alicia a small look of concern.

Enishi unleashed an ice shockwave intended to freeze Hisana instantly. However, Hisana pulled Keith's corpse in front of her as a human shield against the icy spell.

Suddenly, the corpse's hand reached around him and grabbed Hisana's hair and pulled her in front of the not-quite-dead Keith. The positions were reversed and the ice shockwave hit Hisana, instantly frozen into a living ice sculpture. Hisana was incapacitated for the time being.

The still-living Keith then slowly and painfully pulled the razor sharp card from his face. "Argh! Why the face of all places?" He complained as he dropped the card. "Looks like you got her once and for all, man." He remarked about the eastern warrior's handiwork. "I didn't think I was gonna get hurt bad but whatever. I've got respawn anyway."

Pulling out a small pin with a coat of an unknown liquid on it, Keith continued. "I've heard you were here to kill her. But I can do the honors if you're bailing on that."

"Greetings Mira, I didn't expect to see you here, or Ecthel and Alicia for that matter. I imagine that Varjan's condition is a bit more serious, which is why you all aren't with him right now. Which brings me to my reason for coming here."
Lisianthus von Zauberheim

"Mhm, it doesn't matter. You all should go be with Varjan. He needs you more than I do."
Seleth Thenri

"We did. I mean, we tried." Mira replied. "His family had forbidden anyone from visiting Varjan save them. I believe his father is already there with him."

"It's not gonna be pretty. But hopefully his family'll cut him some slack since he got impaled by Seleth and all." Ecthel remarked. "Err, no offense." He smiled sheepishly at the Dark Elf.

"I believe you, Seleth." said Alicia. "You're not a person who would deliberately harm someone without good reason." She did her very best to smile but she could not conceal her sadness. "So please don't be mad, Princess." The girl turned to Lisia. "Seleth's rough, but I know her heart's smooth."

"...I am curious though." Mira voiced her thoughts. "The dark spear may be empowered, but I'm fairly sure that someone like Varjan would have found a dozen ways around that. So why didn't he?" The question prompted thinking from the three. "He couldn't have allowed the spear to hit him intentionally, could he?"

"...Maybe Seleth's just better?" Ecthel guessed.

The guess earned a glare from Mira. "Now's not the time to be hitting on Seleth." She said unamused.

"I'm not! Seleth may be pretty but she's not my type!" Ecthel defended himself. "Err, no offense. Again."

Before the conversation could continue, a commotion occurred outside the room. Someone was yelling and apparently in a verbal spat.

~~~ @CitrusArms ~~~
"Hey, now, no need to make a pariah out of the lad. Should you really be yelling in a place of learning and healing? Why don't you go take a walk, friend?"
Lumina Lusteria
You briskly entered the room to interrupt the loud scolding. There were two people in the room, one bedridden. The one on the bed was unconscious, a young man with brown hair and a bandage wrapped around his torso. The one standing up and doing the scolding was a finely-dressed middle-aged man with short brown hair and some stylish facial hair. Your interruption shifted his rage from the boy to you.
"Excuse me?! Who are you?! Who do you think you are?!" The man yelled at you. "This is my son! MY. SON. Who are you to barge into our business? You don't even know us! Why don't you do us all a favor and you take a walk, friend."
The door was open and the loud exchange could be heard throughout the infirmary. Attention was inevitable.
The man turned to her and... Continued to yell. He missed the point entirely. She waited patiently for him to come to a stop before offering her retort, in a calm, quite tone, "well, sir, if it's your private business, why don't you keep it that way? I, for your information, am the patient from next door. Summoned here by your belligerence, might I add; shouting aloud for the world to hear about your 'private business'. Through an open door this time, no less."
"Speaking of, I see I need to remind you again, sir, that we are in a place of healing, itself nestled within a place of learning. Displays of anger and violence, as well as dragging in whatever rancid energy you're carrying around, is ill advised. I suggest you dissipate your negative energies outside, away from myself and the other patients, and unless you see fit to lower your voice, I may simply have to remove you from the premise. Now, sir, you have plenty of opportunity to save face, here. Unless you want to be escorted from the building, which I am more than capable of."
~~Seleth~~
@PaulHaynek@CitrusArms
"What?" Seleth's eyes widened at the mention of Varjan's father already being there. That...that wasn't likely to be good. From what she could surmise, it wasn't going to be good. Anything else that was said was immediately ignored by the dark elf. She needed to go do something. Ignoring doctors orders, as well as her protesting wounds, Seleth began walking towards the door, leaving her room in the infirmary and heading towards the source of the commotion.
Upon exiting, Seleth could see two people. One standing outside the door, speaking to a very stern and upset looking man. From the words he was saying, she could easily assume who the person was. Should she say something here? Seleth wasn't sure. Showing up now might only escalate the situation further, but at the same time she couldn't let it go. Not without seeing Varjan again for herself.
"...The lady is right." Seleth began sternly, wobbling slightly from her own injuries still. "This is a place of healing. A place of recuperation and quiet. Unless you wish to invoke the wrath of the goddesses, I suggest you leave before they run out of mercy."
--Lisia--
@Rune_Alchemist @CitrusArms
Listening to Seleth's explanation seemed to have calmed the princess down a bit. Though, the points that Mira and the other brought up did make sense. Seraph Academy's prodigal son, taken out by a simple projectile? Such a thing was unheard of, almost to much to believe. At any rate, Lisia also heard shouting coming from the adjacent room. The princess recognized the voice belonging to the father of the Caldeyron household, and he didn't sound pleased. Seleth promptly made her way there, despite her injuries. Lisia was about to protest, but Seleth completely ignored her and walked on. Worried for Varjan as well, Lisia quickly followed.
There standing in the room were Cellon Caldeyron and a fox beastkin, with Varjan lying in his bed. Seleth along with the beastkin told Sir Caldeyron to lower his voice or leave. Noticing that Seleth was still shaken from her injuries, Lisia positioned herself to support her, whether if she protested or not.
"Sir Caldeyron, I'm afraid I must side with them, I must ask that you show more consideration for the other patients in this hospital. Or, would you rather discuss things with security?"
--Enishi--/--Hisana--
@PaulHaynek
Immediately, almost reactionary, Hisana pulled Keith's body in front of her in order to block the blast. However, something happened that took even her off guard. "W-What?", was all she could utter when the not-dead Keith grabbed her by the hair and pulled her in front of Enishi's attack. All Hisana could do was watch as the frozen shockwave washed over her body, her limbs growing numb from the sheer cold. I...I wanted the fun to last so much...longer... she though to herself as consciousness soon left her. She was now completely frozen from head to toe, and at Enishi's total mercy.
Enishi looked at Keith in disbelief, not many people get back up after being stabbed by one of Hisaan's cards, let alone act like nothing happened in the first place afterward. "Keith, I witnessed you get stabbed in the face. You fell dead to the ground and your blood spilled out. How can you be here alive?" questioned the bounty hunter.
Pausing for a moment, he turned to Hisana and decided there were more pressing matters to attend to. Having finally subdued the killer maiden, Enishi moved in for the kill. "I suppose I should thank you for your cooperation, but this woman's fate ends with me I'm afraid. You should do as I said and leave this kingdom at once, before either the city officials or myself change our minds."
At that, Enishi began walking toward Hisana, blade still in hand. He intended to pierce straight through her hard with his katana, and if nothing or no one interfered with the act, Enishi will have another target marked down in his bingo book and settle a long score.
Maybe it's so they can die being right.
"Keith, I witnessed you get stabbed in the face. You fell dead to the ground and your blood spilled out. How can you be here alive?"
Enishi
"I told you, man. I've got respawn." Keith gave Enishi a thumbs-up. "And by 'respawn', I mean I'm not a guy that can be... killed easily." As always, the mercenary was vague with his answers.
"I suppose I should thank you for your cooperation, but this woman's fate ends with me I'm afraid. You should do as I said and leave this kingdom at once, before either the city officials or myself change our minds."
Enishi
"Took the words out of my mouth..." As Enishi approached the frozen Hisana, he suddenly felt a small prick upon his nape. Turning around, he found Keith with a small pin coated with a purple color. "...but then, that notion is a little lacking." Keith said. Enishi's body then stopped completely, not a shred of movement. Not even a twitch. "You see, my departure from Razelia got delayed because someone knew I was going away. I'm not making that same mistake twice."
With a push from a finger, the bounty hunter fell to the ground still unable to move. "Now you might be asking, 'How does that work? I'm not gonna stop you from leaving.'. Trust me, Enishi, that's not how it works. So now I'm not leaving any loose ends." Unconsciousness began slipping and Enishi's sight darkened into blackness. "Nighty-night."
~~~ @AzureKnight (ENI) ~~~

"Hey. Hey, you. Wake up."

Light slaps on your cheek was enough to bring you to consciousness. You awaken to a clear night sky with several city guards around you and a familiar figure. "Are you alright? Here, let me help you up." The person who took you up was the knight who helped you during the Juan de la Cruz incident. "A few minutes ago, we found you unconscious and the criminal lady frozen solid but also a maid girl. She ran off with the criminal to who-knows-where. We couldn't follow her."

"What happened?"

???

~~~ @AzureKnight (HIS) ~~~
You awaken. You instantly remember the last time you were awake. You were about to be killed.
But now you were tied to a large tree under the starry night sky. You did not know where you were save that you were in a forest, but you also had a long katana resting on your neck. Holding the blade was a green-haired girl in a maid outfit. Her presence in a forest in the middle of the night was questionable but you had a feeling she was asking the questions here.
"You are a wanted criminal, Miss Hisana." The maid started, her voice was dead serious. "However, to have evaded the authorities this long means you have ability. Tell me, do you have a good reason for me not to hand you over to the authorities?"
Seraph Academy
Despite being confronted by three women leagues above him in ability, Varjan's father remained steadfast. "Like I said before, this is MY SON. No one has the right to barge into our business. Not even the Princess of Razelia herself." He sternly declared, glaring at Lisia. "And the doctors have told me that my son has may have cheated on his match so you girls better watch who you're defending here."
"And you." The father snarled at Seleth. His anger and hatred bare for the world to see. "Don't think you're getting away scot-free for what you did. Me and my family know who you are, Seleth Thenri. You can run, you can hide, you Elven b**** but we will find you and we will catch you. And nothing, not even your little Cathedral, will stop us from getting justice."
"So you better--" He was about to heavily poke Seleth but his arm was stopped by another. Varjan held his father's arm, saving the Dark Elf. "Varjan!? What--?!"
"Go. All of you. Never come back." Varjan told, nay, ordered Seleth, Lisia and Lumina.
In the span of a single second, reality shifted in the room. Varjan and his father appeared to have been sucked into each other and they were gone, just like that. Others arrived at the scene. Doctor Elma was the first. "You three! What happened?! Where's Varjan?" She asked frantically.
"Seleth! Lisia!" A panicking Mira came. "I saw what happened! Is Varjan alright?! What about his father? What did he do?"
Lumina had been about to retort by binding this guy's wrists with her crystal hilt and leading him away, off the premise. He'd forfeited his right to secrecy when he shouted for the whole Infirmary to hear, and what the not had done didn't matter currently, either. What was important now was his recovery. She intended to tell him as such, and bind his wrists, but before she could do anything, Varjan grabbed the old man and they... Disappeared. Sucked away into some... Hole in reality?
Her hilt was in one hand. It was how she planned to bind Caldeyron. With her other hand, she reached out and tried to grab at the place they disappeared into.
"..." She gazed at her palm, and then the space they'd been. She couldn't be sure what happened. "Were they moved, or..." There wasn't any use pondering about it here. She turned to the group behind her. An elf girl, Varjan's opponent in the finals of their tournament. And he used the drug, supposedly. She fought against a user of that drug, then? And here she was. Lumina placed a hand on Seleth's shoulder, carefully, "thank you for your support. Both of you. I'm Lumina. You're injured, right? You should rest, or have a seat at least."
The doctor and Mira that came in were panicked. They needed to calm down, if they wanted to assess the situation. Perhaps she should lead the questioning? Hey attention came back to Seleth. "I understand you fought him, yeah? Did that look like anything he'd done before?"
~~Seleth~~
@PaulHaynek@CitrusArms
Honestly.
If Seleth had been physically capable, she'd have smacked Varjan's father across the head, but before she could even consider it something unexpected happened. What did he even do? Reality simply shifted, and in the span of a blink they were gone. What even...?
"...seriously?" Honestly, Seleth had had it. She inhaled sharply as she was addressed by Lumina, impertinently waving off the hand and support of the others. "What even is this?! He drugs himself, gets all melancholic, asks for me to kill him and then does this?! Next time I see him I'll beat him so bad he'll beg me too!" walking away from the others, Seleth took a seat on the bed Varjan had previously been occupying, folding her arms across her chest in an irritable manner. "And his parents! How can they even call themselves that? Bah, I want him to try doing anything to me so I can have the satisfaction of watching him fail miserably."
Letting out a few verbal frustrations, Seleth crossed her legs, still obviously irritated with the whole situation but at least, somewhat calmer.
"...I don't know. I didn't know Varjan that well." Seleth finally replied with a sigh. "But I never thought he'd use drugs or attempt something like that. The only reason I even knew was because someone informed me before the match started and cautioned me to play defensively. I didn't want to believe it, but it was easy to see at the start he was using something." Done with her brief explanation, Seleth then turned towards Lumina, narrowing her eyes at her slightly. "...mhm, you speak as though you know something. I suggest you say whatever it is you know." The threatening tone was made less so by the small wince of pain and 'eep' noise she inadvertently made.
"Drugs? Varjan was using drugs?" Doctor Elma caught Seleth's words. "When? During the tournament? Why didn't you tell anyone?" The doctor questioned the Dark Elf but stopped herself suddenly. "...Hm, I-I suppose that doesn't matter right now. We need to find Varjan and his father first. Does any one of you know where they could have gone?"
Mira shook her head. "I don't know. I doubt he has gone to his home and I really doubt he's anywhere near Zauberheim." She sadly replied. "He could be anywhere in Razelia. Or beyond."
"Well that sucks." Ecthel sighed as he and Alicia arrived. "What do we do now?"
The girl was frustrated, that much was clear. And understandable. Sounded like she'd been on quite the rollercoaster. From an overwhelming fight to finding out all about these drugs all at once, through such an awful vector as a classmate. The girl was sharp, too, catching on that Lumina knew more than she was saying.
"Whoo, hey now. No need to get so aggressive, you still need your rest. I'll tell you more later. Suffice to say I also fought a drug user." There were too many ears here, even with what little knowledge she held, herself. And then, she had to figure out just how it all tied into her own investigation, too.
Something caught her ear. Someone knew the first half of what happened. She exchanged a look Seleth before turning her gaze to Mira, "you say you know what that disappearance was?"
Seleth didn't like this, not one bit.
But the Dark Elf could only sigh and listen to the others. Maybe she should have said something, but when could she have? Before the tournament? Look like a scared girl trying to undermine her opponent? Hardly. Afterwards, when he was recovering? That would just needlessly cause strain on an already tenuous situation and put Varjan in an even more precarious position...but maybe she was wrong. Maybe she should have said something. Maybe if she did things wouldn't end up like this.
Seleth ground her teeth together.
No matter, she supposed.
Nothing to be done. All she could do was seek guidance from the goddess, and rest.
"...meh." Seleth sighed, getting up. "I'm returning to my room. I'll be meditating if anyone needs me."
--Lisia--
Varjan grabbed his father by the scruff of his neck and snapped at all in the room never to return, at that they both vanished into a hole that appeared from nowhere. To be bedridden and still have enough mana to perform such a feat, the princess supposed that one should not expect anything less. While everyone, including the now present doctor, frantically tried to piece what was going on, it's what Seleth mentioned afterwards that really threw her off.
Drugs?
Lisia almost couldn't believe what she heard. The prodigal son of Razelian nobility, the pride and joy of Seraph Academy uses drugs during matches? It can't be, can it?
The beastwoman stated that she had also fought someone who used drugs while her in the capital, a most curious statement. Seleth tried to push her for answers, but the beastkin dodged the subject. Tired of the situation, it seemed, Seleth began returning to her room. Lisia decided to leave her alone, knowing that she was still drained from her match. She did, however, turn to Mira and the others. The princess decided to continue Seleth's questioning of the beastkin, she felt that what information she had could help them.
"I beg your pardon, but you said your name is Lumina correct? My name is Lisianthus von Zauberheim, crown princess of this realm. I understand that earlier you said that you had a confrontation with someone who used drugs. You seemed to act as though you're not at liable to speak on the matter, but as the princess I must insist that you inform us of anything you know. It could help us find Varjan and see what exactly is going on with his family"
Lisia stared Lumina dead in the eyes, her insistent tone signaling that she wasn't going to take no for an answer.
--Enishi--
As Enishi went to deliver the final blow to his target, Keith muttered something that made Enishi stop for only a moment. Suddenly, he felt a sharp prick on the back of his neck, and turned to find Keith had pricked him with some strange substance. The hunter tried to slash at Keith, but it was too late. He could already feel his body losing strength, whatever the substance was it was certainly powerful.
"K-Keith you...bastard." Was all Enishi could mutter before falling limp to the ground, 'nighty night' being the last words he heard Keith muse.
Enishi felt his face being hit, after a couple of slaps from Vitalion he finally awoke. With an rough grunt he sat up and looked at the sky, it was the dead of night. That drug must have kept him out for hours, he thought. Still dizzy, he put a hand to his face go both gather himself and hide his frustration at the situation. Vitalion explained to him that they found both him and the frozen Hisana out here on the walking path. However, only he remained as some strange maid woman made off with Hisana's frozen body. Vitalion asked Enishi what happened to lead to this situation. Looking at him for a moment, the bounty hunter slowly rose to his feet with a heavy sigh.
"For whatever reason my karma has been quite terrible lately. I know not if it is my troubled mind or the dullness of my sword hand that is the cause, but I honestly could use some meditation to settle both. Keith had made his way down this path while leaving the kingdom, as per his word Hisana had sought him out to silence him. I tagged along knowing this so I could get the drop on her, while things didn't go exactly as planned, I was able to freeze her. As I was about to deliver the final blow, the damned mercenary had drugged me with some sort of substance that knocked me out. Where he is now I couldn't say. And now I have no idea where my bounty is either."
Enishi took his hat off, revealing his long and somewhat messy black hair. After dusting it off, he promptly put it back on his head.
"I trust things went well with Lumina in regards to that Annabelle woman? She was the ring leader in all this, correct?"
--Hisana--
Her body now thawed, Hisana awoke to a dark yet clear night sky. She had also noticed that she was currently bound to a tree, and standing in front of her was a young woman who wore the attire of a maid. The maid woman had a katana placed directly on her throat, to the point where it was almost cutting through her skin. She stated that while Hisana was a dangerous criminal, she had to have some skill in order to avoid capture for this long. Hisana stared at the woman with a blank expression on her face for a moment, then chuckled a bit before finally speaking.
I don't know, you tell me, dearie~❤️. You're the one who bother to drag me all the way out her, away from those said authorities." She replied. "I take it the fact I'm alive right now means that you need my help with something?♦️ I had originally planned on killing a certain someone, but an old friend put a damper on that.💧 Hisana paused for a moment to look up at the darkness, a small smile was worn on her face despite the current state of affairs.
"I imagine you're in the know on the current state of affairs in the capital's underworld? If so, you've already answered your own question. While I've been asked for my assistance once before, I suppose I'd be willing to lend a hand since I have nothing better to do.♠️ So tell me, is there a certain someone that you want dead, dearie?♣️
Lumina Lusteria, the Lustrous
With The Rising Crown, in the place of Scholars and Warriors
"That might be best. You're still recovering. Walk with peace." Lumina watched the girl walk out. She hadn't meant to dismiss her, but she just didn't feel comfortable discussing an ongoing investigation with so many ears listening. One that wasn't her own, anyway. If anybody wanted to talk about the coming apocalypse, she'd lend them a hesitant, critical ear, but... Well, she was probably, maybe in the right city, anyway. She still wasn't entirely sold on her information from Keith, but that was the best she had. And all the pieces were coming together, slowly.
Her name spoken drew her attention, and by none other than the crown princess. Another piece of the puzzle, but where did it fit? No matter. "The Crown Princess? Yes, I suppose that puts you over the Court Mage... Ah, excuse me, full name and title, yes? Lumina Lusteria, the Lustrous of Var'Ciel, an island nation at sea. If you wish to hear about this matter, then- nnng..." The headache from before rose again in her skull. She put a hand to her head, sitting herself on the bed. She focused a bit of energy into her fingertips and massaged lightly, "... Then we should discuss it in private. These matters may yet be sensitive. We can sit with that girl, if she's so interested. I didn't catch her name."
"Indeed. Annabelle Orlov has been apprehended and her drug operation terminated. I do believe you have a reward waiting for you back at the Luminous Citadel." Vitalion replied.
The Head Captain then gazed at the road. "That Keith fellow has been itching to leave Zauberheim ever since I saw him. He even sold out his boss, Annabelle, in exchange for the freedom to leave the capital. Without hesitation. I'm guessing that guy's long gone now though, I'm not sure why he had to put you to sleep. Maybe he doesn't want any loose ends?" He shrugged.
"As for your Hisana..." Vitalion sighed. "...I don't know much about her. But you do, though. Do you think she's also gone? Or do you think she's sticking around in Zauberheim?" asked the Head Captain. "I admit, I don't think I'll like having her running around in Zauberheim and so, would prefer her actually leaving. No offense."
"With those in mind, what are you gonna do next?"
"No, I don't know anything about Zauberheim's underworld. It is, literally and figuratively, beneath me." The maid, deeming you no threat, pulled back her blade and sheathed it.
"I will not ask you to kill anyone, Miss Hisana." said the maid. "I may ask you to kill everyone. Depending on my master's wishes." She continued, quite cryptically. A magical sound was then heard nearby and the maid quickly turned to it. "That's... That's my master." She said as if she was a pet whose owner had returned.
The maid then swung her katana's hilt at your head, knocking you out again.
------
You awaken at a different location, a clearing with a bonfire this time, but apparently still in the same forest and with still the same sky. Also still bound but no longer to a tree but you were placed on a rock with a smooth surface. You were woken up due to some angry screaming.
"...thinking?! You had it all planned out, didn't you?!" The screaming was made by a boy in knightly armor and a blue collared cape. He had short, gold hair with eyes as blue as his cape and had a fair complexion. Despite his regal appearance, he did not act very regally. "What? Were you just gonna throw it all away? Leave us all hanging? You made a promise to us remember?!"
The person the screaming was aimed at was another, more timid-looking boy. He had brown hair of medium-length and light blue eyes. His choice of clothing was simple but the fabrics looked expensive. "I know. I've made a mistake. Never again." He tiredly replied, which only seemed to agitate the angry one further.
"Orne, please restrain yourself. You are talking to Varjan Caldeyron." The maid attempted to control the angry one, apparently named Orne. "Be glad that he lived to continue our plan... and your vengeance."
"No! What if it happens again?! He has slipped once! What makes you think it won't happen again? What then, huh-- Argharg!" Orne was cut off when he suddenly put his hands on his neck as if he was being choked.
You saw Varjan's hand softly raised at Orne. Was the former choking the latter without physical contact? Varjan lowered his hand and Orne fell to the grassy ground out of breath and gasping of air. You realize Varjan had simply sucked out of the air from Orne and prevented him from getting any. "Like I said, I made a mistake. I won't be making any more. Never again."
He walked to the bonfire and all those present assembled. Besides the maid and the angry Orne, there was a beautiful girl with long, black hair and black eyes wearing a simple red dress and a bespectacled boy with scruffy black hair and a noticeable red-and-gold scarf around his neck. "We go forward with the plan. We'll begin the transfiguration later. The process will not be painless so prepare yourselves. Then we begin the preparations for... the reckoning."
After the small group dispersed, Varjan approached you with the maid. "And who might this be?"
"Hisana, my lord. She is a dangerous criminal that had just gotten to Zauberheim recently. I believe she will be a useful asset to us." The maid answered.
"Thank you, Anesh." Varjan said to the maid. Turning to you, he continued. "A dangerous criminal huh? Say, Hisana, would you like to be even more dangerous?"
"... Then we should discuss it in private. These matters may yet be sensitive. We can sit with that girl, if she's so interested. I didn't catch her name."
Lumina Lusteria
"I... don't think that's a good idea." Mira responded. "Ah, greetings Miss Lusteria. I am Mira Yasunori, a student from the Eastern Isles. Anyway, her name is Seleth Thenri and she is recovering so let's not bother her too much for the time being. As for you request for privacy..."
Mira produced a slip of paper with a foreign character written on it and threw it at the room's door. Somehow, it stuck to the door as if it was glued into it. "That spell will keep any noise from this room inside. Doctor Elma, please direct any attention from this room. As long as the door is closed, the silencing spell will work."
"Mira, will this work?" Alicia questioned.
"Yes." Mira bluntly replied, a bit impatient even. "While I would like for a more formal area for meeting, this will have to do. We need to act as soon as possible and so we need to know what Miss Lumina as soon as possible." The onmyoji declared. "Doctor Elma, would you please?"
The Beastkin doctor nodded, agreeing to the plan and left the room. "Now then, let us say what we know and see if we can perhaps formulate a plan of some sort."
------
Surprisingly, you were not disturbed in your meditation. After half an hour, Doctor Elma arrived to give you the incense. She did not stay long, the disappearance of Varjan caused a bit of a commotion so she was preoccupied.
You were left alone with your thoughts for quite a while. You watched the dusk light fade from the window and saw the darkness of the night appear. After what seemed to be hours of resting and meditating, your time alone ended when someone entered your room. It was Feathered One, a bird Beastkin but she wore the clothes of an authority figure. Her hairs and feathers were white and her hand and feet resembled that of birds'. Typical for a Feathered One.
"Greetings, you are Miss Seleth Thenri, correct?" She began. "We understand that you are still recovering from injuries but we have reason to believe you are privy to important information regarding Varjan Caldeyron. Thus, we may require you to report to the Luminous Citadel for questioning. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused."
"Oh and uhh, I was also told to tell you that your parents has sent a message that they will be visiting you. Would you like to send a message back? Confirmation to say you have received the message?"
Lumina Lusteria, the Lustrous
With The Rising Crown, in the place of Scholars and Warriors
How very efficient, she liked it. This girl was good at her craft. Was this school full of such capable people? Hm, she needed to stay on her A game, then. It wouldn't do to lose to a child, not in that manner. She looked to the princess, "I am to consider these people your trusted hands, then?"
Presumably, one "yes" later, "very well. Let me start at the beginning. I got involved in the case about as soon as I arrived in Zauberheim. I found myself outside a warehouse, host to a fight on it's front step. Some cute young thing was about to get an axe, so I stepped in and stopped the axe. Then someone started the warehouse to go up, I busted in, secured some illicit substances, fought with Keith a bit while I was at it, and my involvement in the case was solidified."
"The next day," she glanced at the door to see it was still closed, "say, your spell needs the whole room to be sealed? Windows 'n such, too, yeah? Just makin' sure..."
"Ah, the next day, we're to go arrest Juan de la Cruz for questioning, but it didn't go well. You may have heard. Someone was put there to take him out, meaning that he was definitely involved. Then, just today, we busted up a gym that was a front for their organization, and I fought alongside Sir Vitalion, against Annabelle Orlov. She's the drug user I fought. It made her strong. It took the two of us to bring her down. She managed to get me good on the head, which brings us here."
"Now, this all seems like it might be tied up in the business that brings me to your kingdom in the first place. What do you know of all this, if I may be so bold."
The rest of the evening seemed to pass quietly. After the events of today, she was grateful to be able to be alone with her thoughts. The incense was helpful, relaxing as it should have been, but her thoughts wouldn't stay still despite it. They kept drifting back to Varjan. The lot knight and his rather scary dream. The drugs and even briefly thought of home. Aaaah, she really didn't want to go back, but she was certain after this victory she would need too.
A small creak of her door signaled she was no longer alone.
Cracking open an eye, Seleth turned her attention to the beastkin that had entered her room. An elegant looking woman, with enough feathers to make quite a comfortable pillow. She listened quietly, not moving a muscle while she stated her purpose here. So she was to visit the Citadel and tell them what happened. She wasn't sure how much help she would have been, but she supposed now wasn't the time to question it -
"My parents?" Seleth gave the woman a wide-eyed stare reminding one of a deer that had just been spooked. "Here? To visit? Aylama's holy-ahem," She caught herself mid sentence before she said anything that may incur the wrath of the goddess. She could hazard a guess as to what they were here for. Damn it. At least if they had requested her presence back at their home she could prepare better, or constantly find some excuse not to go, but if they were coming here.
Urgh.
"Thank you, Miss." Seleth replied again with a sigh. "If you must, tell them to meet me at the Radiant Cathedral. That is my usual place of residence." Throwing her legs over the bed, Seleth ended her meditation and stood. "Well, lets get going then. I'll tell you what I can, however little it is."
"Yup. Can confirm." said Ecthel. "I was there when we tried to nab Juan. I didn't do much though, hehehe." The boy sheepishly laughed.
"Is that why you were missing that one day?" Mira asked with a raised eyebrow, but Ecthel picked up what she really meant.
"It was a secret official investigation! I couldn't tell any of you." Ecthel defended himself.
"Do you think this is where Varjan got the drugs?" Alicia was the next to speak.
"Probably." Mira replied. "But... none of that says anything about where Varjan is or is heading to. Not that I'm saying that Varjan's use of illegal substances isn't serious. It's just that we need to find him first and--"
"I think I know where he's heading next." Alicia suddenly said, after much internal deliberation. "If Varjan cheated, I doubt he wanted to get found out. I believe he expected to win and then cover his tracks. With his abilities and reputation, he would have no trouble accomplishing that. However, that's not how things played out and now... Varjan has nothing to lose."
"So... where do you think he's going?" Ecthel asked.
"If he were any other guy, he'd have just left and go somewhere far away. But Varjan and his family aren't that. If he tried to run away, his family will no doubt chase him to the ends of the world. Varjan likely knows this, and he's probably on his way back home to settle things with his family once and for all." Alicia explained.
"...You don't think he's really gonna do that, do you?" Mira remarked.
"He's about to be exposed as a cheater in the Grand Academy Tournament. He doesn't have anything else to lose." Alicia said. "We need to find him before he does anything... drastic."
All the talking between these three made it seem like they knew Varjan well. Or at least, knew more about him than anyone. Perhaps Lumina or Lisia could inquire into that.
"If you must, tell them to meet me at the Radiant Cathedral. That is my usual place of residence. Well, lets get going then. I'll tell you what I can, however little it is."
Seleth Thenri
"I shall relay your message. I believe your parents will be arriving in several days so you'll have time to prepare for their arrival." The Beastkin said. "We thank you for your cooperation and we apologize once again for the inconvenience. Please follow me." She led you out of the infirmary and out of Seraph Academy.
The melancholy of the night could definitely be felt as you followed the Feathered One. The decorations and stands for the tournament festivities were still there but the people enjoyed them more serenely. The loud happiness of the day had made way for the quiet enjoyment of the night. This scene, for some reason, felt like it was precious. As if it was under threat.
"You will be meeting Lord Athos, the Royal Court Mage, in the Luminous Citadel." The Beastkin said. You knew Athos, he has visited Seraph Academy several times and even taught in some classes. It appeared he was good friends with the academy's head master. "Please do be honest in your answers. Everything you say will be taken completely seriously."
"Off the record, I believe he's just going to talk to you." The Feathered One said more quietly. "Normally, this questioning should involve multiple people but only Athos will be meeting you. Still, I recommend you take this seriously."
At least she would have a few days to gather her thoughts. Ugh, she really wasn't looking forward to this. Her parents were...nice, but...well, no matter. She'd deal with it when it came. Being the heir to a noble house, always being expected to succeed...well, it put a lot of strain on a person. Its why she always tried to be better than everyone at the academy - she had to be. It was the only thing she really had, back then.
Stepping into the cool night air, The dark elf shifted her thoughts back to the matter at hand. The serenity of the festival was something she wished she could enjoy. Such a rare sight, and her feet slowed only slightly to take in the sights, her thoughts soon interrupted again by the Feathered One.
"I see. Thank you." Seleth replied once more. Curious. Why just the lone meeting? What sort of information was he looking for that required them to meet one on one? Though, she supposed with the sensitive nature of the subject, it was prudent to keep as few people in the know as possible.
There was not much more to be said, for the moment, so she quietly continued to follow.
Luminous Citadel
The Feathered One took you to your destination, the Luminous Citadel. The fortress was huge, containing three great structures built upon the capital's walls to withstand sieges. Despite it being the dead of night, the citadel shone with lights and guards. Ever vigilant, the Luminous Citadel would not be caught with their guard down. To break it, one would need to overcome it by force.
Past the great iron doors of the central structure, the Beastking led you through pragmatically-designed halls and through wide, defensible corridors. The two of you soon reach the end of a seemingly unremarkable corridor save for the double doors upon it. Your escort then opened the doors. "Lord Athos? Miss Thenri is here." She said.
"Ah? Ah, good, good." You entered a simple, moderately-sized room. A couple of windows on the side, a warm fireplace burning at the fore with two high-class, velvet chairs facing it and a low, glass table in between the two pieces of furniture. Athos sat on one of the chairs, a grim look on his face but softening upon seeing you arrive. "I thank you, Miss Parzon."
"I am proud to serve, Lord Athos." The Feathered One bowed before leaving.
"Take a seat, Miss Thenri. You have been through a lot." Athos beckoned you to sit at the other chair. "I thank you for coming, even if you were still recovering." A deep sigh then left the Court Mage. "I imagine you have many questions you want to ask. You will not think that I hold the answers to them, but I do. Especially ones about Varjan."
"Tell me, girl. How was Varjan doing? What is he up to?" Athos asked, tiredly from the tone of his voice.
The princess listened intently as Lumina spoke of what she knew of the current state of affairs, raising quite the brow at the mention of Juan de Cruz. Even a noble being involved with this supposed drug ring? It certainly didn't vote well for what else Varjan may have gotten himself into, especially when Lumina mention that someone took him out. What also caught her interest was how Mira and the others spoke of Varjan like they were a part of his family; indeed they seemed to know alot about him.
"Mira, you all seem to know quite alot about Varjan and his familial affairs. Could you perhaps elaborate a little more on the exact nature of his relationship with his kin?"
--Enishi--
@PaulHaynek
With a heavy sigh, Enishi was silent for a moment before final answering Vitalion. "I'll being staying herein Razelia for now." He replied. "Having been taken somewhere by an unknown third party, she's probably still here for the time being I'd wager. The problem with that woman is that you can never really tell how she'll go about doing something." Still frustrated, all the bounty hunter could do was shake his head at the whole situation.
"Fow now, though, I think it best to return to the Citadel and speak with Athos-san. I imagine he'll want to hear about how today's event have transpired."
--Hisana--
@PaulHaynek
Hisana awoke to what sounded like the bickering of a few young men. Both of the ones she saw looked young enough to be student, more than likely from Seraph as she sensed at least a little bit of magic emanating from them. One was a short haired blonde with a hot-headed disposition while the other was a bespectacled brunette who seemed more leveled that his friend. She also noticed a good-looked red-dressed girl with a somber expression on her face, Hisana had to admit she looked somewhat out of place with these roughnecks. But what caught her attention was the third young man she laid her eyes on.
She felt a huge amount of mana coming off of him, witnessing a sample of it as he nearly sucked all of the wind out of the complaining blonde. The maid from earlier had approached her along with the young man, the servant had confirmed that the boy was no other than the infamous Vajarn Caldeyron she'd heard so much about. At that moment, a wave of excitement coursed through her entire body. Not only had her life been spared, but it seemed fate had given her a chance at this boy after all. Of course, now may not be the time for such indulgence.
For now, Hisana decided to humour the boy's question.
"So, your Varjan huh?⭐ I imagine you've got yourself caught up in this whole drug this too. I recall a mercenary asking me if I wanted to use enhancements in order to boost my strength as well.♣️ Honestly I don't care about the whole thing, but I can't imagine someone as strong as you needing them. From what I've heard you're quite the prodigy, excelling at all subjects at the prestigious Seraph Academy. I also wonder what a school boy would want with little ol' me?"❤️
