Two Years ago, In the east blue, In the town of his birth, Gol D. Roger was sentenced to death. His final words were not filled with tears, or regret… they were a spark that set off a great powder keg.

With his final words, pirates from all around the world took up arms and raised their colors, setting out to the sea, one wish filled their hearts… to find this great treasure left behind by this legendary man! But, when power grows, another power always matches it. The Marines. An influx in sailors occurred during this time as well… people who would not let the world fall into the hands of those criminals, seeking justice and order in a chaotic time.

This is the start of their journeys, pirates… marines… and all sorts of things in between. All of them seeking the sea for their own reasons. Some for fame, some fortune and some, for the sense of adventure.

So, The Great Age of Piracy began.

The sea shifted and churned pulling the small rowboat which Alex manned along with the waves. As experienced as he was at piloting a vessel, it wasn't really helping him as the tiny dinghy was not well suited for waves this rough. He continued onward as he was not but a mile from land. It had been just under a week since he left his home on his search and he had neglected to acquire more food at the last island he stopped at largely in part because they actually had information on the jolly roger he'd been carrying around.

Apparently, the crew to which the flag belonged had been terrorizing random islands in the West Blue for roughly three years ever since they made a return trip from the Grand Line. From what information he had gathered they weren't very strong but they had an impressive array of Devil Fruit powers that made up for their lack of physical strength. The one thing that unnerved Alex the most about this crew is that supposedly they kidnapped people forcing them to fight for their amusement. This was the key piece of information that made Alex rush out of the town. The people didn't know where these pirates were so he didn't want to waste time asking useless questions. He had to find them as soon as possible so that he could save his family. He had nearly rushed out before even hearing the name of the crew or the captain. But stopped long enough to learn the name of the one he was hunting along with receiving a bounty poster of the captain.

Alex pulled the bounty out of his pocket when the sea began to lighten up making it easier to get to the island he could see. "Don't worry everyone. I'll beat this guy until he tells me where you are. I'm gonna take down the Pack Rat Pirates and make their captain pay. I'm coming for you ..."

Something about this town was off. It was the middle of the day but no one was out and about. Eadgar could tell that the people were in their homes, but only just barely. He knew that there were pirates in this area, but that didn't usually keep people from going about their lives. This wasn't normal. Something happened. Something bad. He knocked on door after door but each time was either greeted by silence or someone slamming the shutters closed so he couldn't peak in. Did they think he was a pirate? Determined to find out what was going on Eadgar journeyed to the next town over.

There, the people were at least out and about. Just not as much as he expected. It was as if everyone on the island was scared of something. As if there had been a recent event and the danger still lurked nearby. He tried asking the people what happened but every time they just looked at him in shock and ran, presumably to their homes. Eadgar was rightly getting a little frustrated. "Come on people. I'm not a pirate. I'm a bounty hunter. If there is a dangerous pirate in the area threatening you just point him out and I'll beat him!

"They think you're weaker than him, boy." Eadgar quickly turned to see a tall figure leaning against a nearby fence. The woman looked oddly familiar. He couldn't really see her face properly as she had her head covered but there was just something about her. "Then they don't know about the Gray's. We are the strongest bounty hunters this Blue has ever seen." A few of the passing townspeople stopped at the name he had used. They began eyeing Eadgar and some of them even seemed to be growing a hopeful smile.

The woman chuckled at first and then began bursting in full-blown laughter. Eadgar growled at her putting his hand on his sword. "Slow it down there boy. I'm merely laughing at your false bravado. Everyone knows about the Grays. Father and Son duo going about the West Blue sending all forms of criminals to rot in a cell somewhere. We both know which of the pair is strongest and we both know that one isn't here. Otherwise, you'd already realized that there's a jolly roger flying atop the building in the center of town. Just look at it and I'm sure you'll know why these people cower in fear."

Eadgar was angry. Whoever this woman was she wasn't some common thug. But did she know about his dad? No, there's no way. Only a very select few knew. Begrudgingly he turned from the woman to look at the flag hoisted atop the center building and his eyes went wide. He knew exactly who that flag belonged to and how despicable that man was. He was weak but smart and had been avoiding Eadgar and his father for three years. He turned to look back at the woman to see that she was gone. He could tell that she wasn't a part of his crew. She seemed strong and there was no chance of him allowing someone stronger than himself to be on the crew. "Whatever. I'll find and deal with her later. For now, I'm gonna finally turn this wretched trash in. Screw the rules. You're not getting away this time ..."

Drip, drip, drip. That was the constant sound that Adelinde could hear. The incessant dripping inside the small damp cell was driving her mad. Those rats had purposefully made a contraption which would simulate that infernal sound. To a normal human, the sound would be a little aggravating, but to the one who had eaten the Onsei Onsei no Mi, the soundwaves were like an invisible force pushing her body with millions of tiny needles all at once. Normally, one with her power wouldn't have to deal with such a sensation as the soundwaves which constantly emanate from her body would push them back, but she had Seastone cuffs on her wrists which caused her natural defense to normal sounds to essentially be turned off.

For about a week, she has been a guinea pig to these people. This was an entirely new fruit to them so they were going all out doing various experiments. Right now they were testing how much other soundwaves affected the user. Thanks to this rotten cuffs she could barely muster up the strength to move let alone escape. She had to get out of here somehow. She needed to know that everyone was alright.

The dripping device ran out of water and as she was exhausted, Adelinde was getting close to falling asleep. However, she could faintly here footsteps coming in her direction. With bleary eyes, she looked up to see the fat pig who had trapped her down here. "Ah, I see you're still awake little one. I'm surprised. I was certain you'd be out hours ago. Lucky for you we're done with formal testing of your fruit. You won't be locked up in this cell for much longer. Isn't that wonderful? And do you want to know what's next for you my dear?"

With a snarl on her face, Adelinde spit at the rotund man. "I don't believe that was a proper answer. Anyway, you may want to get some rest as it's finally time for you to show what you can do with that power of yours. You're finally joining the others in the fight pit."

In her delirium, Adelinde began laughing. The man looked at her in confusion. She stopped laughing and looked him right in the eyes. "Go ahead. Put me in the pit. You'll see what this fruit can do. I'll use it to shatter you and your crew. For someone so smart you're an idiot to think you can keep doing this forever. You should've expected that one of these days someone would fight you in that pit. And it will be me."

"Poor naive girl. I've been doing this for years. I've thought of every possibility. No one escapes from me. It would take the power of a god to free you from my grasp." He began walking away laughing. Adelinde screamed out at him, "I don't need the power of a god to destroy you. A devil will be enough to beat you. YOU HEAR ME! ..."

Marine Lt. Raven Booth

“Sigh… I worked so hard you know.” Raven looked down at his tall glass of iced black tea, with just a single slice of lemon floating in it. “I did my job properly. I climbed up the ranks. I made it to Lieutenant.” He then quickly gulped down the liquid. “SO WHY DID THEY PUT ME IN SOME BACKWATER OCEAN WITH ONLY FIVE CREW MEMBERS!?” He sighed putting the glass down on the table, as his crew scrambled about the deck.

“TURN HARD TO PORT! THE STORM’S COMING IN QUICK!” One of them shouts. “Someone keep the cannon from sliding on deck!” It was only five people… but somehow the whole group was chaotic and disorganized. “More so than that… Why is it they didn’t even give us a ship cook? I’m stuck with hard rations and rice!” He sighed as he slowly stood up from his seat. “Honestly… It’s so uncool.” He stepped up to the railing, over looking the deck of the ship.

“AND YOU ALL! Come on! Shape up! You! Tie the cannon down, You, you’re on the sails. YOU!” He points at one of the panicked soldiers. “To the look out!” He then points at another. “MAN THE DAMN HELM! Come on get it together!” He sighed and adjusted his sunglasses. “Honestly, You’ll make me look bad.” Raven shook his head and sat back down in the seat. “And someone get me another glass of iced tea!”

Dusting himself off as he stood to his feet Fukurou looked back at the sea mentally preparing himself for the journey ahead. Pieces of his poorly crafted raft still remained in the water while debris decorated the shore. "Geez that was rough." He murmured to himself walking towards a town. His main goal was finding a way to leave this island with a ship at most and information on a guy with a flute at the least. Usually in these repetitive scenarios that Fukurou has been recently living through his thoughts would get overrun by the hustle and bustle of the town he would slowly be entering. That normal situation did not come as Fukurou reached the town and was met by no one. Nothing was out in about or even seemed like it was alive if it mattered.

He continued through the town slowly noticing that it was not a ghost town but the people were willingly remaining in their homes. This began to bother Fukurou as he stood and waited to see if someone would eventually come out. Alas, not a single soul made their presence known to him. If this keeps up he was not gonna make progress towards anything which started to slowly piss him off. Still, in a calm manner, Fukurou ventured more into the town and finally received some form of life that was not gawking at him from inside a home.

Approaching the figure Fukurou only noticed one person although it did seem like they were having a conversation with someone else. Fukurou continued to close the distance between him and the figure at a steady pace. His knowledge of there being more than one person still escaped his mind as he focused on getting some well-deserved answers. He did not falter even when the figure looked to be bothered and began to shout.
Arkin!

Fukurou took a few more steps before he stopped believing to be in earshot of the now identifiable man. "LOOK! If you're the cause for these people to shelter themselves in their homes. I'll have to make this a short greeting." He stated preparing to fight. He did not care why or what caused these people to hide but if killing that person can help him reach his goals than he will play hero to do so. "You don't seem like a bad guy but I can't be too careless." His monotone voice showing no sign of a threat.

Captain of The Card Shark Pirates

Jason Spade

The waves gently rocked against the small ship as it sailed through the ocean current… it’d only been a few weeks since Jason had made his way into the world of piracy. So far he was still bountyless, beliless and… “So… hungry...” Foodless. His stomach growled like a beast protecting it’s territory. “It’s been three days already… where the hell is the next island!?” the blonde haired pirate slowly stood up from his sitting position.

The boat was quite small, just big enough for a handful of people, but that’s what you get when you steal the nearest available ship. “Tch, dang.” He looked around at the empty sea. “I really lost big on this one huh...” He had taken a gamble on which direction to sail, though… he wasn’t a navigator and he barely knew how to sail. So far he’d been making his way by picking a direction and going with it.

“Alright well.” He activated his fruit for the first time in a few days. “Let’s see, North… north west… north east.” He began making a card for every direction he could think of. “AND SHUFFLE!” He shouts, shuffling the cards in his hand like a mad man. “DRAW!” He grabs the top card and slams it onto the deck. “Hm… It says west.” Looking up at the sky, he gets a good idea of the suns position… “I’M ALREADY GOING WEST!”

As he shouts.. the shadow of a galleon slowly creeps up from behind…

“LAND! IT’S LAND SIR!” The men jumped and cheered as the small marine vessel docked on the island. “HAHAH! IT’S BEEN SO LONG! THAT STORM WAS SO SCARY!” Raven sighed as he leaped onto the dock. “Geez, If you’re men, then stop sniveling so much! It’s so uncool.” The young Lieutenant adjusted his glasses as he spoke. “But We’re just so happy to be alive! Our ships so small that- “ “I KNOW IT’S SMALL!” Raven shouts at his men, “Don’t you think I know that! IT’S UNCOOL! COMPLETELY UNCOOL!” He grumbled. “Damn it, I just want a crew fit for a cool guy like me.” He sighed, heading off into the town.

“Hurry up and fix the ship! And then get some supplies! We need to head out of here as soon as possible and find some pirates! I don’t want to be stuck on this boat any longer than I have to be! So let’s make a name for ourselves already!” Raven throws his arm into the air as his men cheer. “Good… that lit a fire under their belly… now, how about we take a look around this village.. maybe there’s some bandits I can take down.”

Nikko - East Blue - Starter Island

- "Gold Roger's beginnings were humble. Like most pirates he was not immediately wealthy, or immediately all-powerful. In fact, on the day he started out, he didn't even possess a ship. So, he set out to get one. Leading him, to Starter Island. Not a true island like many others, but rather an artificial one. Once upon a time, a ship builder wanted to build his ships in the wide open ocean, so that they would be of the best quality and unlike any others. Soon, other shipwrights saw this, and wished to do the same. In the end, the collection of workshops, all eventually merged into one. Becoming Starter island, where almost all ships in the East Blue could trace their origins back to.

Gold Roger did not buy a ship. In his first bounty, he stole one."

Page 1 of 'The Brilliant Gold Roger' written by 'the equally brilliant Nikko.'

He closed his notebook, and let out a deep sigh. The click of his notebook filled the air, and a smile drifted up along his lips. Nikko's heart was racing, despite this... He wasn't on steady ground. After all, he was standing on a tiny sailboat, that drifted slowly towards the horizon. On that horizon was a monstrous thing. A massive collection of boats and wooden docks that seemed to go on forever. Massive crane loomed in the distance, used to pick up and drop each of these behemoths into the water.

From a pair of binoculars, Nikko gazed out at each ship. As if trying to decide which one he wanted to reach out and take for his own. If he was going to write about the Pirate King, he might as well repeat his actions. That was the best way to get into the mindset of the pirate king after all, right?

BUMP! Nikko nearly fell off his boat as it struck land. That wooden frame connecting with one of the many docks that seemed to stretch for miles. Stepping off, he turned his head to figured out just how to tie his ship up... Only to see it spring a leak, and sink to the bottom of the ocean. Oh well.

"Well... Could be worst. Now... To find the right ship."

Aboard The Ship of a Certain Man

Jason Spade

Jason was sat on the deck of a rather large ship, rope wrapped tightly around his body, which was unfortunate for him as this was the sort of place you’d like to be able to use all your limbs. Sitting in front of him was a rather tall, obese man, drinking from a barrel of rum. The alcohol pour down the man’s chin and chest… he didn’t seem to really care. “Rurururur! You’re in it now boy-o!” The man laughed as he slammed the barrel onto the ground.

“Scuse me?” Jason tilted his head. “You found yourself on the ship of the great me! Cap’n Bilsco! Captain of the Rum Runners!” Jason looked around, it was your basic crew of cutthroats… though they were drunken cutthroats, so… you’re basic crew of cutthroats. “So… what are you going to do with me then?” Jason asked. “We’ll search yer boat! Take your treasure! And then throw ya over the edge!” Jason nodded, “mmhmm mhmm, see I don’t exactly have any more, or food. Or water.” He smiled. “So it’d be pretty great if you didn’t do that and just let me go!”

“Rurururururu!” Captain Bilsco laughed again. “No such luck boy-o! If ye ain’t got nuttin worth while then ye ain’t worth nuttin to me!” He held his hand out, prepare to give his men the order to toss him overboard. “Wait wait, hear me out! Hear me out!” Jason stood up, his arms still bound by rope. “How about you, me… we make a little wager huh? You like to gamble right? You a gambling man?” He grinned.

“Rururururu…. I’m listening boy-o….” Captain Bilsco grinned as he leaned forward.

Somewhere out to sea

Ricardo the Iron Bull

“This is your last chance to surrender. Drop your weapons and relinquish control of your ship to us; failure to comply will only delay the inevitable.”

The sound of harsh, mocking laughter was the only reply that came from the pirates above, Ricardo tilting his head back to be able to see the mass of sneering faces peering over the railing of their ship. The galleon they had been pursuing for the last couple of hours was much larger than his own small marine vessel and judging by how many sets of eyes were on him now its crew was at least twice the size of his own. Clearly, they did not take his demands seriously.

Nonetheless he looked confident, standing tall on the deck of his galley with his arms crossed over his broad chest, most of his crew of twenty lined up behind him with rifles held in front of them; the guns weren’t aimed at the pirates just yet, instead resting in the palm of one hand and against shoulders as if they were lined up for inspection, but the implicit threat was there.

“Who does this idiot think he is, giving us orders? Doesn’t he realise how much trouble he’s in?”

“The marines all have big heads now just because they caught Gold Roger; think they own the seas.”

“Well, this one won’t have his head much longer, putting holes in captain’s nice new boat like this.”

More laughter rang out as the pirates joked among themselves. Indeed, Ricardo and his crew had managed to put a few holes in the larger ship before catching up to it, cannons and harpoons flying between them as they chased the pirates across the open waters of West Blue; a few of those harpoons were still stuck in the other vessel, ropes tied to the missiles connecting the galleon to their galley and forcing the pirates to stop and deal with them, hence the current standoff.

Ricardo raised his eyes slightly, looking past the amused faces to the sails above them and the stylised crossbones that decorated them; while the skull was normal the bones had been replaced by a pair of thin wooden clubs covered in iron spikes. “This is the vessel of the Iron Club Pirates, yes? Led by Captain “Iron Bar” Tetsubo?”

“Did you hear that? Our captain’s famous!”

“If he knows who we are he should know not to mess with us!”

“Surrender.” Ricardo cut through the voices of the pirates, interrupting their talk with his simple demand. “Or I will come up there and make you.”

There was no laughing this time, no jokes, no mirth. Maybe it was the new intensity that had entered Ricardo’s voice that let them know his patience had run out, or maybe it was the more direct threat of violence against them. Either way things were deathly silent in the moments following Ricardo’s statement until the sound of heavy footsteps, interspersed with a third, heavier beat, broke the tension.

“So the marine wants to act tough, eh? Stop bullying my crew and come up here, eh? If you want me to drop my weapons you gotta come up here and take ‘em yourself.”

At the invitation Ricardo made his move. As he bent his knees the line of marines behind him braced themselves before he leapt, his galley rocking violently in the water as he pushed off of the deck and launched himself up and over the railing and the heads of the pirates to land on the deck of the galleon.

The pirate crew no longer looked so amused now that he stood on level ground with them, most of them seemed to be bracing themselves for a fight while more than a few were backing away or outright cowering in fear. The only one who didn’t look worried was the man Ricardo presumed was the captain; taller than the rest of his crew, though shorter than Ricardo, and broad, he had a bald head covered in scars and in his mouth was a lit cigar. One hand rested on the handle of a large wooden club as the head covered with iron spikes sat on the ground; it was identical to the ones on his sail.

Tetsubo pulled the cigar from his mouth, blowing out a puff of smoke as he looked Ricardo up and down. “Aren’t you a big one? The hell do they feed you guys?” He flicked his cigar to shake loose some of the ash gathering at the end before putting it back in his mouth. “No matter; what’s my bounty at these days?”

“4 million Beli; for the crimes of piracy, theft, assault… and murder.” Crossing his arms again, Ricardo settled in as he waited to see what would happen. It looked like Captain Tetsubo wanted to talk for a while, probably so he could put on a show of not being intimidated for his crew before he tried to attack; hopefully he wouldn’t be so predictable and he would just come along quietly.

The pirate captain looked a little shocked at the number, eyes widening before his face scrunched up in an affronted expression “Wha’? Only 4? I feel like I’m not being taken seriously.” He lifted his club, swinging the weapon up to rest on his shoulder. “Especially not if I have marines thinking they can just jump onto my ship like this.”

They never wanted to come along quietly. “I take it you’re not going to surrender then?”

“Heh, I don’t know. Do you boys think I should surrender!?” The answering roar from the on looking pirates, who Ricardo now noticed had moved to surround him and cut off any retreat, clearly expressed their wish, even if the accompanying shouts of get ‘im captain and show ‘im who’s boss weren’t also included.

“Well then, I think you have your answer.” Tetsubo lifted the club from his shoulder and began to grip it with both hands. He began to pace forward, closing the distance between them as he held the club behind him and wound up for a big swing. “If you want me to hand over my weapon so bad, I’ll give you a taste of it.”

The heavy, lethal weapon rushed towards Ricardo as its wielder swung it with all of his might, only to stop dead as it met the marine lieutenant’s palm. Ricardo had uncrossed one arm, holding it out before him as he caught Tetsubo’s swing before it could reach him. The crowd, who had not ceased their shouting or cheering since their captain had called out to them, now fell silent once more as everyone aboard the vessel stared in shock.

A trickle of blood ran down Ricardo’s hand and onto his wrist, the spikes of the iron club digging into his palm, before dripping down to form a small puddle on the deck of the galleon. If the marine felt any discomfort however it didn’t show on his face, his expression not having changed since he had first asked for the surrender of this ship and their crew. “This club… has hurt a lot of people.” The muscles in Ricardo’s arm rippled, the vein’s in his wrist and only the back of his hand popping as he suddenly twisted the club in his grip, snapping the weapon in half.

Before anyone could react he unfolded his other arm and struck Tetsubo with the back of his other hand, sending the captain rolling across the deck to crash into the wall of his cabin behind him. As the pirate slumped to the ground the marine dropped the half of the club he still held to the deck, the dull sound it made seeming to snap the remaining pirates out of their daze as they began to either back away from him or draw their weapons to attack.

Turning towards the side of the ship, Ricardo tilted his head back and let out a shout. “Boarding action!” A few of the pirates froze, letting those words sink in and giving the marines from Ricardo’s crew time to climb up the side of the ship and over the railing to attack them from behind even as others prepared to fight back. Despite their lower numbers, the marines were better prepared and hadn’t just seen their captain be defeated in one hit and were able to quickly subdue a number of the pirate crew before they could mount a proper defence. Walking towards the largest group, where the fighting was thickest, Ricardo began to assist his crew by attacking the defending pirates from behind.

Hearing heavier footsteps approaching from the side, Ricardo turned and raised his arms just in time to block a powerful attack from some kind of weapon. Sliding back from the blow, the marine lieutenant paused as he felt the pain radiating out from where he had been hit; whatever he had been hit with had been strong enough that he would likely have severe bruising after this, maybe even a fracture or two as well.

Turning to face his attacker, Ricardo was unsurprised to see Captain Tetsubo back on his feet. In his hands he held a club much like the one that had just been broken, however closer inspection showed that this weapon was purely made of iron instead of just wood with iron spikes. Tetsubo grinned around the cigar in his mouth, unaware or uncaring of the fact that it had been bent when he had been struck.

“You didn’t think that was enough to stop me did you? You’re not the first marine to try and stop me and you won’t be the last.” The pirate captain rushed towards Ricardo, swinging his metal club in a downward stroke that the marine dodged. A follow up swing was also dodged, as was a third. “My name and my flag are known and feared all across the West Blue, and I’m going to show you why!”

Ricardo continued to dodge each swing as Tetsubo continued his assault, wary of trying to block or catch the weapon after he felt what it would do to even his body. Just as troublesome as the power of each attack was the speed at which they came, as the Captain showed he was more than just a dumb brute; he controlled the weight of his weapon well, carrying the momentum of each swing into the next attack and losing little time between swings. Ricardo could do nothing but dodge until he saw an opening to attack.

The moment came as Tetsubo began to tire; his attacks slowing slightly as swinging around that heavy weapon began to wear away at his stamina. A slight paused after one swing to catch a single breath was the only opening Ricardo needed as he charged forward and drove his shoulder into Tetsubo’s chest. He pushed the pirate captain back, the man staggering as he sought to stay standing, giving Ricardo even more time to prepare his next attack. Holding his arms crossed in front of him with his hands flat to form an X shape, Ricardo lowered his head and ran at his opponent.

“Charging Bull.”

The attack name was not shouted aloud for his opponent or any onlookers to hear, instead being said at a normal speaking volume as if for Ricardo’s own benefit. As his charge brought him in front of Tetsubo he flung his crossed arms outward, chopping the pirate captain with both arms and sending him flying again, this time crashing through the wall of his cabin and coming to a stop atop a pile of shattered furniture and broken timbers.

The fighting around him came to a sudden halt as both pirates and marines stopped to check on the captain; through the hole in the way it was clear to see that Tetsubo would not be getting up this time, as his open eyes showed nothing but white.

It didn’t take long for the remaining pirates to surrender upon seeing their captain fall and Ricardo’s crew were able to round them up without issue; a few had been injured in the fighting but their coordinated assault had worked well and they were experienced. Even outnumbered they had fought well. The pirate crew, including the still unconscious Tetsubo, were gathered in the centre of the deck and surrounded by armed marines. “You are now in our custody and will be transported to the nearest marine base so you may be arrested and charges officially brought against you. Any attempt to escape will be duly prevented and result in extra charges brought against you.

“Marines!” Every marine on deck snapped to attention. “Take any injured pirates and secure them in the brigs of either ship; they are to be provided treatment and to be made comfortable. These men are our responsibility now. The remainder will stay on the deck and be kept under armed guard. Sergeant, you have the helm of the galley; lead us home. I’ll stay here and help keep guard.”

“YES SIR!”

A seedy bar on Starter Island

Shigeuchi the Trickster

The amber liquid swished around the inside of the glass as the holder swirled it around, his single eye getting lost in the motion as he seemed to almost put himself into a trance. An unlit cigarette hung from between his lips, more as a fashion statement than anything else; the man hadn’t smoked a single one since walking into the bar several hours ago.

Letting out a sigh which concentrated years of weariness into a single exhale Shigeuchi threw back the glass, downing the whiskey in one before lowering it back to the bar with a tap that seemed loud for how quiet the establishment was. The bartender made to refill it, uncorking the bottle and stepping forward, but the pirate placed his hand over the top of the glass to block him.

“No more for me.”

With a nod the bartender moved away to attend to his other patrons, the elderly man placing the bottle of whiskey back on the shelf as he went. Shigeuchi moved the glass aside and placed his elbows on the bar to lean forward, chin resting atop joined hands and one eye closed as he sank into deep thought.

Or fell asleep.

Definitely one of the two.

It had been weeks since his captain’s idiotic first born had left home, sailing off with nothing but a dinghy and a ton of paper, weeks since the captain’s first mate had told him to go keep an eye on him. Admittedly Shigeuchi wasn’t doing a very good job of that.

Since leaving the fleet he had seen neither hide, nor hair, not steering wheel of the kid. He had heard no word of the so called ‘Red Lion’ or even a rumour of a red-haired kid wandering around; and the kid was nothing if not memorable with that thing in his hair.

No bounties, no news, nothing at all. No clues to help Shigeuchi find Shiki’s wayward son.

So Shigeuchi had come to Starter Island, the world renowned floating boat yard of East Blue where many an aspiring pirate or merchant found their way; some of the finest ships in the world could trace their not-so-humble origins back to this place. It was also famous for being the place Gold Roger earned his first ever bounty and if there was one thing anyone knew about Nikko it was that he was crazy about Gold Roger.

Where better for Nikko to begin his journey than the place his idol started his?

Yet even here, no one had seen or heard tell of a red-haired youth fitting the kid’s description. It was starting to look more and more like Shigeuchi was going to have to return to the fleet empty-handed and try to explain how he had somehow lost the eldest son of their captain.

Maybe he would just stay here and drink instead.

Raven Booth

Raven walked through the town, the people seemed at ease. They weren’t making much fuss and bowed their heads as he walked past. “Tch… Am I really not going to find anything here?” He thought to himself, making his way to a little cafe at the center of the village. It was a nice little shop, Raven made his way inside and sat down at one of the tables. “OH! A marine! What a sight!” An elderly man came out from the back room, brandishing a broom and an apron.

“I’m Marine Lt. Raven Booth.” Raven spoke confidently, adjusting his sunglasses. “A Lieutenant in our part of the island! What did we do to deserve such honors sir!” The old man didn’t seem serious when he spoke, his facial expression barely even changed. “Tch...” Raven’s eye twitched… why was he being looked down on… he should be seen as a cool hero! People should look at him and call his name “Raven-sama! Thank you for saving us~” “Raven-Sama~ So cool!” He was lost in his own thoughts as he gripped his jacket and pulled with his teeth.

“So, were you looking for some food? I’ve got a shop to run you know!” Raven sighed and placed his elbow on the table, resting his chin in his palm. “Yeah yeah… I’d like some iced tea.” “Oh.. big spender.” Raven’s eye twitched again at the old man’s comments. “Look here old man! I’m not here by choice alright! There’ was a huge storm out at sea and my men are basically as useful as a hand full of rocks! So I don’t need your sass too!”

The old man stared Raven down. “That’s more like a marine.” The lt. Stopped for a moment, “What the hell are you talking about?” The old man sighed and placed a glass full of ice down on the table. “The marine Lt. In charge of the base just a few towns over. He’s just like you. Full of vim and vigor… and venom.” He poured some black tea into the glass.

“He keeps the bandits away… but the people have to pay tribute to you damn marines every month and we’re going broke.” Raven grabbed the glass, downing the tea and slamming a handful of beli on the table. “Thanks for the tea.” He adjusted his sunglasses as he stormed out of the building. “Pff… least he tips well.”
