Someone else had an interest check a while back that got me thinking up some story concepts. The check never went anywhere, but I developed my ideas a little more and decided to give it another chance. At the most basic level, the premise is that we will be roleplaying as "monsters" that can pass as human. They have their own parallel society to the one we know, and they occasionally create mysterious disasters in the human world to further their own ends.

As for the monsters, I have decided on a fairly standard supernatural cast, with the twist addition of a newly arrived type of sci-fi creature. A lot of the story will have to do with the impact of this new faction's alliance with the supernatural community, and the potential for a huge shake-up in the status quo. I see us a group of representatives chosen by the higher-ups of each faction to carry out important and often action-packed missions for the sake of the underworld.

The existing supernatural community exists of Witches, Vampires, and Werewolves. The new faction is a small group of lifelike androids who claim to be from the future - Terminator style. I want to keep the power level of each faction at a more grounded level. There will be supernatural stuff for sure, but our characters won't be so powerful that they don't have to worry about things like bullets or car accidents.

I've written up a good bit about the factions, but I don't want to dump all that in the interest check right away. The vampires and werewolves should be pretty recognizable, with most of the abilities and weakness from their folk tales intact for flavor's sake. Werewolves are unstoppable monsters when fully transformed, but this will only happen on the night of the full moon, which will be a special in-game event. Otherwise they will have access to a hybrid form, which has only some animalistic features, as well as increased strength and perception. I'm open to some non-wolf weres too if anyone wants to play one. Witches are physically the same as a normal human, but they have access to a variety of magic spells. Most of them have to do curses, or utilities like transmutation or flying on a broom. They would typically rely on some sort of familiar for direct combat. Lastly, the androids are the strongest and most durable in normal conditions. The body of an android is a metallic combat endoskeleton covered with layers of living tissue. They don't have any supernatural powers, but they have an affinity for technology, and special knowledge about the future.

I plan to play one of the androids. We'll have some dark adventures as the supernatural community tries to leverage its new advantages. We will mainly be opposed by: local police and federal agents, rogue vampires and witches, vampire hunters, priests, and resistance soldiers from the future. Interfactional conflicts might get more complicated as mysteries begin to unwind and the situation develops.

I'm thinking that I will set this in a modern, but slightly earlier period so that the available technology isn't too out of control (say, mid 90s). Let me know if you're interested in joining. I'll share more of my notes about our setting if we get a few people together. Until then I'd be happy to answer questions or brainstorm with you.

So, WoD (World of Darkness) if it also had Terminator... Could be fun. I've certainly had worse ideas :P

Hey, it might not win any awards, but I think it will be fun for a casual roleplay. I've done some vampire stuff before, and I felt like android would provide an interesting contrast. Vampires tend to be unusually old and rather traditional. The androids will be cutting edge and novel. There's also the magic vs technology angle. And how does the predatory relationship between the underworld and humanity change when a third element is introduced?

It would also just make for some cool action scenes. :)

More than once in my younger years I tried to do one that was very "syfy presents"; I simply called it "Androids vs Vampires", and it was more like "What if Screamers(1994ish) but on earth and they're fighting vampires too"

Your idea is already much better thought out, I meant no insult

I don't know if I should with my RP loadout, but I admit I am interested. My usual go to would be a vamp, but a werewolf sounds good for a change of pace. Are you looking for only one player per species?

I'd be happy to have you if you decide to join. I don't want to restrict us to just one player per faction, so no worries about that. We wouldn't be the only active group, so it's okay even if we don't get representation for every faction in our main cast.

About Lycanthropy: I've been thinking that a man becomes a werewolf when he is subject to an ancient curse - one that forces him to share his body with a vengeful animal spirit. Sometimes the conditions for the curse come about naturally, almost as a matter of fate. Others are born into the curse, for once it has taken hold, its effects are hereditary. Sharing a body with the animal spirit grants greatly enhanced perception, and a surplus of vitality. Bearers of the curse are healthy individuals, and due to its effects, their natural lifespan is roughly doubled. Werewolf families tend to keep large private hunting grounds to try and contain the evidence of their transformations. Those less fortunate might live on the run, haunted by their sins or dogged by investigators.

That might give you some things to consider as you think about a character. Others might be thinking about vampires, so I'll share a few notes about them too.

Vampires never age, and are generally beautiful and graceful. Though I have it that Vampirism first started around ~1500, so that serves as an upper limit for age. They are several times stronger than humans and extremely agile. They are technically undead, and they can do some creepy stuff like walking along the walls or ceiling, or practically disappearing in darkness. They are weakened by sunlight, but not injured by it. Bad things happen to vampires if they are deprived of blood for a long time. Once turned, they are no longer capable of casting witch magic, or of having children. They can sire new vampires by turning humans, however. The vampire population has grown over the centuries, and it is now the dominant faction in the underworld. There is a big conspiracy to cover up their crimes and even their existence.

@Olive Fontaine Thanks, neat to know. Would you give the info on the other two factions just to have it all?

Be wary of Irish Saints; at least two have supposedly cursed people to be werewolves o_OU although historically werewolves have also had a more mixed reputation in the region, so, who knows what to expect?
