Someone else had an interest check a while back that got me thinking up some story concepts. The check never went anywhere, but I developed my ideas a little more and decided to give it another chance. At the most basic level, the premise is that we will be roleplaying as "monsters" that can pass as human. They have their own parallel society to the one we know, and they occasionally create mysterious disasters in the human world to further their own ends.
As for the monsters, I have decided on a fairly standard supernatural cast, with the twist addition of a newly arrived type of sci-fi creature. A lot of the story will have to do with the impact of this new faction's alliance with the supernatural community, and the potential for a huge shake-up in the status quo. I see us a group of representatives chosen by the higher-ups of each faction to carry out important and often action-packed missions for the sake of the underworld.
The existing supernatural community exists of Witches, Vampires, and Werewolves. The new faction is a small group of lifelike androids who claim to be from the future - Terminator style. I want to keep the power level of each faction at a more grounded level. There will be supernatural stuff for sure, but our characters won't be so powerful that they don't have to worry about things like bullets or car accidents.
I've written up a good bit about the factions, but I don't want to dump all that in the interest check right away. The vampires and werewolves should be pretty recognizable, with most of the abilities and weakness from their folk tales intact for flavor's sake. Werewolves are unstoppable monsters when fully transformed, but this will only happen on the night of the full moon, which will be a special in-game event. Otherwise they will have access to a hybrid form, which has only some animalistic features, as well as increased strength and perception. I'm open to some non-wolf weres too if anyone wants to play one. Witches are physically the same as a normal human, but they have access to a variety of magic spells. Most of them have to do curses, or utilities like transmutation or flying on a broom. They would typically rely on some sort of familiar for direct combat. Lastly, the androids are the strongest and most durable in normal conditions. The body of an android is a metallic combat endoskeleton covered with layers of living tissue. They don't have any supernatural powers, but they have an affinity for technology, and special knowledge about the future.
I plan to play one of the androids. We'll have some dark adventures as the supernatural community tries to leverage its new advantages. We will mainly be opposed by: local police and federal agents, rogue vampires and witches, vampire hunters, priests, and resistance soldiers from the future. Interfactional conflicts might get more complicated as mysteries begin to unwind and the situation develops.
I'm thinking that I will set this in a modern, but slightly earlier period so that the available technology isn't too out of control (say, mid 90s). Let me know if you're interested in joining. I'll share more of my notes about our setting if we get a few people together. Until then I'd be happy to answer questions or brainstorm with you.
