In Greek mythology, "The Gigantes" are where we got the word for "Giants", as well as the idea of them. The tale where they featured most prominently was called "The Gigantomachy", and was considered the end of the Greek legends.

How appropriate, than, that for us, Their arrival signaled one thing:

The End.

Nobody knows where They came from; speculation was all over the place. Reports put them anywhere from 5 to 20 meters, rising from the seas, emerging from the earth, charging down the mountains. By the time everyone knew They were real, They were everywhere, They couldn't be reasoned with, and They couldn't be stopped.

The big cities got hit the hardest, one or more charging in faster than they could evacuate, or even sound the alarm- millions were consumed by Them in just the first 2 months.

Our armies tried, but were also among the first to fall. They were too strong.

We fled underground; hiding was our only option. Some say there are floating colonies out on the seas, but for now, underground is all we know-

The Surface belongs to Them.

We manage to get by with what we have, but sometimes we have to go up, for scavenging and forage. Sometimes we even catch radio signals from other shelters!

It's dangerous to go up, but the bold and brave who keep managing to return earned a place of honor among the survivors. They come back with tales of having to flee, or even fight Them, and the lengths they have to go to in order to survive! Officially, they're just called Rangers, but the people's eyes light up with hope as they start to call them

Giant Slayers

Welcome to the Giant Slayers rp!

This is a post-apocalyptic setting, where the surface of Earth is too dangerous for human civilization due to the presence of colossal predatory creatures that resemble humans and primates. Humans have been living primarily underground for at least 5 years since They came. People call these creatures Giants, or Them/They collectively.

I'm keeping character sheets minimal:

Player:
Character Name:
Description: written or image is fine
Mole/Rat (put a line through the one you aren't)
Occupation:
Gear:
Background:

submit characters in the OOC first, and please don't put them in the character tab until they're approved.

@RickyG85Few questions if you don't mind:
- What is the age of adulthood? Life expectancy of normal people during this era?
- Does hydroponic/mushroom farming exist for large settlements?
- How human-desired are they? Like given a mortally wounded Giant and a mortally wounded human side by side, what would a Giant go for?
- Also tech level? Like 1945 for the Outside World as was portrayed in AoT?

I'll try to whip something up soon.

Those are some good questions! In order:
-It varies; Undergrounders try to protect their youths at least until age 15 and the more well off Mole colonies can manage the mid 80's for people who live safer lives. Meanwhile Rat's in their more survival focused groups could expect a kid to start pitching in as soon as they're old enough to hold a knife or lift something heavier than a stool, and might look at you like you just said "I'm immortal" if you tell them you're 45.
-Yes.
-Pretty strongly, but, They'll go after whichever is closer or caught Their attention first.
-Civilization as we know it fell in 2025, so the disparity of tech level between human communities can also be radical, but the ruined state of the surface also makes it much less reliable, up there.

Does that sufficiently answer your questions?

@RickyG85 Heyy, I’m interested in joining, but I’ve got a few quick questions! Since civilization fell in 2025 and tech varies between communities, what kind of post-apocalyptic tech people commonly have access to? Also, is the story set in a specific country or is it in a fictional region?

Hmmm... Well, what I described would imply (I thought) that nothing is really "common", certainly not on the surface. But, in the larger bunkers I suppose some civilians still have smartphones? I've been doing rpg's since I was 15; I know you're trying to get at something, but I can't quite figure out what?

Honestly I hadn't thought of where it would take place. My mind defaults to North America.

Sorry if my earlier question came across oddly;; — what I really meant was just to understand what kind of equipment and tools Moles, Ruin-Rats, and Rangers rely on. Since everything collapsed so fast, should I assume they mostly use scavenged 2025-era tools and weapons, or is there room for improvised or adapted tech in underground shelters?

2025 is the most advanced you'll be able to find, the surface and smaller shelters will rely more on stuff that's adapted/scrounged and held together with duct tape or something, yeah.

I see, cool.

Btw here’s the progress on my character so far. It’s still a rough concept, but I’ve been having a lot of fun experimenting with a style that fits the setting. I know a character image isn’t a 'must', but I enjoy visualizing my designs, so I thought I’d share it ^^

Name: Emily Graves
Gear: 9mmm Compact pistol, homemade med-kit, Lighter/matches, scrap pouch (full of wires, batteries, metal bits, etc), water stained notebook, and a beat-up guitar strapped to her pack.
Mole/Ruin-rats

(Temporary) Description: Emily is noticeably pale, enough that people can’t tell if it’s natural or if she’s sick. Her eyes are brown with a slight red tint, giving her a tired, unfocused look. She has deep red hair—messy and long but—not really long? I guess medium is the word. (I’ll update later once i can finally get my hands on my drawing tablet)

Backround: Before the world ended, Emily Graves thought she had everything figured out. She was going to run away to some oversized neon city, sleep in tiny rooms above laundromats, play her cheap guitar on sidewalks until her fingers bled, and pretend she didn’t hear her parent's voices telling her to "grow up and become someone." College meant nothing to her. She wanted stages, not stethoscopes. Music, not med school interviews. Freedom, not the endless job-application hell everyone else saw as the “proper path.” People said she wouldn’t last a month like that. Well—they were technically right—just not for the reasons they imagined. Because the month the world collapsed, Emily was standing in a subway station, counting her meager gig money and trying to decide if ramen or expired convenience-store bread would be her dinner. She thought she’d finally escaped expectations. Instead, she watched the city she dreamed of swallowing her whole get pulverized by Giants like it was made of cardboard. And weirdly enough, she didn’t cry. She just stared, dazed, as if life had simply skipped a track on a broken CD player. Sure, the apocalypse was worse—much worse—but in its own twisted way, it removed the last burden she’d been carrying: people expecting her to be something she wasn’t. No more college. No more job interviews. No more pressure to be a “success.” Just survival.

Everyone’s too busy trying not to die to care whether Emily Graves is immature, lazy, aimless, or self-destructive. And she finds a strange comfort in that. The world finally matches her: cracked, chaotic, and exhausted. Now, when Ruin-Rats look at her drifting around scavenging junk for “experiments” or humming songs while giants roam the horizon, they just shake their heads. She’s a washed-up musician who never made it big. An almost-doctor who never studied. A dreamer who couldn’t dream fast enough to outrun the end of the world.

@Ikan Not bad! I appreciate the decision to not go too grim; it makes me think of a more muted "zom100", or Zombieland. Not everyone handled The End the same way.

For being so pale, do you think the Rats mistake her for a Mole? lol

In any case, I approve the character, feel free to post this in the character tab. Just please @ me in ooc when you edit to add the image?

Sure I'll tag you! Also, Zom100 is litterly the insperation for my character haha. I was afraid it'd turns out to be too cartoonish, but i'm glad you like it :D

I mean, there's probably some trauma held at bay, but no, by comparison you're character was pretty chill, not cartoonish to me.

@ShovelIt looks good! Maybe give it another once over for spell-checking, and consider the titles "Logger" and "Cartographer"; both are the names for modern woodcutters and map makers, respectively. I won't be bothered if you decide not to, these are just suggestions.
I like the bit of world building with that exchange at the end!

Aside from that, I'd say you're ready for the character tab!
