Sayaka is a weak-framed girl, skeletal even. Her paper white skin is just as sickly as her lack of musculature which makes the willowy and relatively tall teen seem like she might blow away in the wind. The color of her irises are a very dark blue that border on black, blending in with her pupils the pair send to sunsettle onlookers to Sayaka’s entertainment. Her hair is long, straight, black, and unkempt as it trails down past her waist in length. Typically she’ll wear loose and comfortable clothing forgoing style altogether in exchange for what is easiest to sleep in. She accessorizes only slightly with some necklaces and bracelets that have some sort of dorky sentimental value to her. Sometimes she’ll paint her nails cool colors like silver and attempt to write binary on them, but most people wouldn’t notice that.

Short Bio:
A life that was mostly spent in front of the television.
Sayaka’s parents both worked, and while they did she was watched primarily by her grandmother. The elderly crone didn’t pay much attention to Sayaka, she cooked and cleaned their house but the quiet girl didn’t have much in common with the old woman. Could you say that Sayaka raised herself? Probably, but a better explanation would be that she was raised by the internet itself.
It was at a very young age that she would sit on the tatami with a laptop in front of her, unsupervised and unsuspecting, she explored for the better and for the worse. She made friends around the world, some fake, some real— but all experiences led her to having a very captivated mindset where she cared less and less for her friends in primary school and opted instead to stay on her computer from the time she got home till deep into the night. In middle school she would befriend a person with the handle [JoyBoy] who instead of filling Sayaka’s time with mundane things like chitchat about politics or social struggles, brought her into intellectual gatherings for young programmers to banter and learn from one another.
And then they needed money, so a few crypto rug pulls later she was able to start buying things for herself!
The very first thing she purchased for herself was a high-end PC with top of the line specs. It allowed her to play more intensive games that many of her online peers could do befor, her parents were suspicious but it wasn’t until her grandmother brought up the obscene idea that she was selling her body to pay for these new things that Sayaka fonally lashed out for once in her life. It drew the ire of her mother, her father, and her grandmother, thought she didn’t care much for the crone who hardly spoke to her in the first place. They’d come to the conclusion that if she had the funds to do so, maybe she should live alone?

Personality:
Every generation seems to be more and more integrated into social media and internet culture, unhealthily, with excess and parasocial groupthink absorbing another bystander every day. That’s certainly not Sayaka though. Like— yes, of course she watches some streamers from her generation but the majority of them are ones that stream game development and offer advice for new developers to avoid making the same mistakes they do. She watches, unblinking, absorbing every detail and memorizing every mistake to ascertain that she never makes them herself.
Sayaka is a perfectionist, so dedicated to her craft that she will adhere from sleeping, eating, or even using the bathroom to make absolutely sure that she executes what she wishes to do without issue. When a school project is given to her, more often than not, Sayaka’s team wins purely due to her carrying the team.. sometimes she’ll do so without communicating to her teammates. One time she even worked on the project alone out of her own free will, and instructed her team leader to discard the project he worked on and just use her own— only for it to win.

”You are a liability.”

She would tell them, and avoid making any contact following those crass words.

Skills:
The majority of Sayaka’s skillset falls within the realms of cybersecurity, programming, and general puzzle solving. If you were to ask her what she was skilled at; she would offer explanations about virtual machine automation, script optimization, SQL Injection, and then go off about how social hacking is just manipulating stupid people into doing stupid things. Her passion however, is in game development! She’s been working with other anonymous friends online to make an indie game, and Sayaka both wrote the text for the characters and created the pixel art— allowing the older and more seasoned developer friends to take the backend work.
She wouldn’t necessarily call herself an artist, but she does have a creative’s mind and that is what she centers her career goals around. While she scrolls down the Linux Reddit and interacts with the OS elitists, she’s doing so mostly for entertainment. Perhaps she is a bit manipulative herself, acting out as a greasy computer snob while really just wanting to bring her visions of games she wishes to create taking the foreground. Other odd or unique talents she might have would be— that she’s strangely flexible, with double jointed elbows and a gymnasts elasticity!

Name: Hidekichi Mamai
Age: 17
Physical Description: The biggest name in the art world you don't know. Not pictured, all the bandages and colorful smears on his hands.

Deki-Ma Keychain - a mass-produced piece of merch modeled after one of Deki-Ma's most popular pieces, a chromatic koala bear hugging a tree that had grown to incorporate it. The keychain is, obviously, just cheap plastic.
Short Bio: Hidekichi grew up poor and lonely. His parents worked meaningless jobs with extreme hours that never paid well, which reflected in how they were treated by neighbors and acquaintances. He wasn't able to make friends in school, but the fact his baby sister Tsuzuri couldn't either got to him more. He tried to be there for her to compensate, trying to be her friend when no one else would, but they were too far apart in age to be in the same school. So, Hidekichi got creative.

It started with simple dolls, little figures made of foraged sticks, faces doodled on rocks, but at an early age he began to make new sets of friends for her. If nothing else it made her happy, having something she could take with her to feel less alone. He never gave up, though, wanting to make something he thought would be 'worth' keeping. As his interest in crafting grew, so did his skills and his range, leading to him taking up sculpting, whittling, papercraft, even sewing, his scope steadily increasing from tchotchkes to actual statues and other such things. He had a knack. It was just a hobby, something he kept within the walls of his home, until one day his mom decided to take some of his more cutesy projects to work with her.

People loved them. She asked if he could make more, and he did. People asked her if they could buy them, so she started selling. Word spread, more people were interested, Hidekichi's skill improved, so pieces of higher quality were shown off and bought, and it all sorta snowballed from there. Hidekichi rode the pseudo-popularity, beginning to sneak his pieces out to the public eye, the air of mystery as to who this sculptor could be only fueling the interest. Known only as "Deki-Ma", he had become something of a sensation before he even entered highschool.

Of course, fame was never what Hidekichi wanted out of this. He was ecstatic that people enjoyed what he made and how it helped his family's financial trouble, but as Deki-Ma grew from an underground nobody to a sought-after auteur, it all became too corporate for him. Now he had to fill out jobs (delivered anonymously from the few points of contact in the world aware of Hidekichi's identity), and those jobs didn't carry the same spark as it had when he was younger, when it was simple fun to make his sister happy. He still does what he has to, of course, not wanting to do away with Deki-Ma despite his growing resentment towards the persona, and he does like to challenge himself with grander projects. But his passion for art, the side of it all that filled his heart with joy, was still rooted in those ugly, ramshackle things that Tsuzuri brought with her to school.
Personality: Hidekichi is a bombastic sort, the kinda kid that wears his heart on his sleeve and has no real shame in how other people see him. He's loud and tends not to think things through, usually landing him in a lot of trouble wherever he goes. While everything about him - the way he acts, how he dresses, etc - screams 'delinquent' or 'punk', Hidekichi holds no malice towards anyone or anything and only wants the best out of life, for him and everyone around him. Though his thoughts spiral this way and that, making it hard for him to focus on much for very long, unless it's one of his little projects which spring up just as fast as anything else that comes to his mind. The one thing he truly despises is the idea of "perfection"; he argues against the very idea of it, hates when people use it to justify treating others, or themselves, like shit, and holds great value in the imperfections in life... sometimes to his own detriment.
Skills: Hidekichi's most prevalent skill is his artistry. From the ripe age of 10 he's been obsessed with all manner of handcrafts, primarily sculpting - creating things out of clay, stone, wood, marble, and so on. He's something of a prodigy, his expertise increasing rapidly in the few years since he began, and at his age to boot! Pretty much anything he gets his hands on he can work into a competent piece of art, from erasers and chewed gum to gemstones and solid metal. Though he much prefers "feeling it out", seeing where his heart takes him as he works instead of following any rigorous standards a sculptor of his caliber tends to be associated with.

Physical Description:
Taller than average for her age at 173cm (5.6ft), Rukana gives off a distinctly imposing vibe despite her somewhat perhaps colorful and bombastic way of dressing herself. Or perhaps its because of the way she makes a visible attempt to stand out from the crowd that she comes off as such.

Dressed in Jirai Kei fashion, Ru-chan as she insists shes called, is often dressed in vibrant colors of pink, reds, or solid blacks with whites depending on her mood for the day. Typically this consists of a Her hair is naturally black, but its often dyed in either pink or red streaks with an Ombre coloring.

Short Bio:
A wealthy life, never left wanting for anything aside from parental affection. Her mother, a wealthy businesswoman in real estate, and her father was the owner of several businesses in Kumamoto but also in the greater Japanese area. They both provided money to ensure a particularly affluent life, but what they didn't provide most days, were their presence. If asked, Rukana would say that she has only faint memories of her parents ever being anywhere near her when she was a child and preteen. She was left in the care of babysitters, tutors and various similar people. Some did their job as best they could. Some, were just there from the absolutely bonkers paycheck from her parents.

Its those, that enabled Rukana to become the slightly manic and absolutely voracious 'I'll get what I want and if I don't I'm just going to take it anyways' mindset. She learned from an early age that if she wanted something, all she had to do was ask her parents. They didn't really 'care' in the traditional way, but they did try in their own twisted way. The sitters and tutors were the same, whether from fear of losing their gig or for other reasons if Rukana wanted it, she got it.

So thus, she spent most of her life growing up an extremely spoilt child. Some, growing up like this would become quite the useless adults. Rukana at least, did have several tutors that did try to put her on the right path to some success ensuring that she at least had a proper mindset and work ethic even if her parents barely saw her a few times a year. Still, it wasn't enough to stop her from acting out.

And then, tragedy. Or at least, it would have been tragedy if he had ever been a thing in her life.


She's better now. Still doesn't get people very well, but she's trying in her own way. Might never really connect with others well in her extremely headstrong, selfish, and desire to get what she wants regardless of the consequences, but she's at least trying to be better both mentally and physically. Her mother too, quit work wholesale, but their relationship isn't good. At least it exists, she supposes. Maybe she does care.
For now, at least though, she finds herself in New Amakusa City, hoping to start fresh and at least make an attempt at a somewhat stable life - and more importantly shes actually trying to do things herself instead of relying on her parents money for everything.
Personality:
'Rukana gets what she wants, and doesn't care about what she has to do to get it' would be a very simple and apt way of describing her personality on a surface level. After all, everyone should want to be friends with her. She has money, status as a wealthy girl, can get all the expensive stuff and to say nothing of the fact shes ten times prettier than you'll ever be so you should be grateful to even breathe the same air she does. She dares to say she's *perfect*. If its something she cant get, or fails at, or otherwise doest manage to accomplish well...it will start bothering her to an almost obsessive degree.

This isn't to say she's unfriendly, though. While she does take sometimes...extremely direct approaches to thing, such as cornering someone who borrowed money from her in the stairwell to make sure they know they really should pay it back, or if she sees someone bullying her or others she'll loudly tell them to quite indelicately to 'fuck off' and she is known to throw hands if the offense is severe enough leading to people thinking shes a bit of a delinquent and has a perpetual bad attitude. This...well, its kind of the truth, honestly.

The only real notable thing people can comment on is her insatiable desire to complete or perfect whatever she sets her sights on. Whether it be just buying something with money, that time when she spent an entire month learning to play the guitar, singing, or anything else that seems like it might be interesting or fun. That is to say, she always, always puts 110% behind anything she does.

But really, what can one expect of someone who has never really had a friend in her life, or even had her parents or any parental or guidance of any sort growing up really do? She tries, at least she thinks she does. The jury remains out on that.

Skills:
Rukana is still in the process of figuring out stuff she likes. Growing up she had near unlimited access to whatever she wanted, sure, but it wasn't for any particular learning purposes or for self betterment reasons. She read books. Practiced drawing, painting, art in general. Domestic skills such as cooking and cleaning, and took a brief interest in medical procedures for reasons...but all of that was just to try and fill the void that was left behind by her absent parents and her admittedly standoffish self that drove others away by the time she was properly allowed to socialize.

She has at least discovered she likes singing and has taken up learning the guitar. She is particularly interest in the rock and metal genres, but she'd have to say her true interest and passion at the moment is botany and flowers, though she's still attempting to learn and figure out the basics as this is just a recent development.

Name: Katsuragi Rin
Age: 14
Physical Description:

Standing at a meek 5'3", Rin looks younger than she actually is. Her hair and eyes are a dull pink, and she wears it very short compared to girls her age. She wears loosely fitted clothing, and is never seen without her signature cat-ears beanie. Always wears a pastel windbreaker due to poor temperature regulation, she gets cold rather easily.

Though she looks childish, she wears a mean face to dissuade other students from bothering her, and it's worked so far. When approached for actual conversation, she tends to shrink into herself; crossed arms and minor slouch.

Short Bio:

Rin was the youngest born to a single mother. She had a lonely homelife to her hardworking mother--mostly absent due to having to provide to two kids. For convenience, her mother put her into online/home school as early as possible, while her older brother, Yoshida when to a physical school. With this, Rin grew up unsocialized, unsure of herself, and had a tendency to cling onto her older brother as her only friend. Whenever her brother came home or had a free moment, they'd play baseball together. It was Rin's only hobby outside of watching TV or reading whatever books her mother left behind.

Rin and Yoshida were an inseparable duo, and while Rin rarely left home outside of necessary doctor visits, she'd always convince Yoshida to tag alone or even shadow him. He was her anchor, a familiar face in the midst of unknown crowds outside of her mother.

And then, Yoshida had left for college out-of-state. He'd visit occasionally, of course, but Rin's anxiety only worsened as her mother's workload only increased. She was consistently left alone at home and she sure as hell didn't have the confidence to meet the neighbor's kids on her own or even use social media. Her mind was a mess.

The last time she saw Yoshida, he gave her a signed baseball from a famous Japanese player. A little after that, her mother struggled to tell her the news: her brother passed away. The specifics, she didn't say to spare her daughter more pain, but Yoshida was gone.

Forever.

Rin refused to leave her room for a month, until finally deciding that if her brother could live without her, then she could too! She'd try and be like him: she'd go to real school, meet people, and just be a normal kid!

Of course, she had no idea what that meant, and had no idea how to act around strangers her age, but she swore to try.

Personality:

A DQN chunibyo with severe anxiety. She always tries to act tougher than she really is, mainly to get out of awkward conversations and interactions. While she seems like a loner, she's desperate for actual friends and is constantly second-guessing herself. An impulsive, anxious overthinker; if you ask her to jump, she'll think on it for 5 minutes or more, try to convince you to ask someone else, before finally jumping.

Though, if her head is really in it, she'll jump in head-first, no questions asked. She has a reckless side that's only fueled by her anxiety and vice-versa; she's deathly afraid of the future and failure, but that constant fear and her never-ending thoughts is what drives her to act. Of course, when things inevitably go wrong, or if she hurts herself and another, she'll sink back into her anxious shell... and the cycle repeats.

Tends to speak overly loud and in short bursts due to a stuttering issue. Her stutter decreases when she's talking to or near people she's comfortable with.

She brings an emotional support shark plushie wherever goes in her bag--a hand-me-down from her brother. It quells her anxiety somewhat, though she'd never admit to having it. She'd rather keep the plushie a forever secret to keep up her "tough gal" facade.

Skills: Her love for baseball as batter is her first and only major skill. She studies pro baseball players on TV, practices every day in rental batting cages while her mother is either watching or out, and she learned first-hand from the best baseball player she knew... her brother Yoshida. While she's not pro by any means, her love for the sport is what carries her to work her hardest.

Bio

From inception the Haru family was odd. An etymologist from Germany who fell in love with the daughter of a Japanese whaler that had gone beyond her origins to become a kendo champion.

It could hardly be called a whirlwind romance or anything poetic. They met, and to all who weren't them seemed to be rather blasè about the other. But there was a connection, shared between a few too many shared cigarettes and moments held too long.

They never had a proper ceremony. They got the legal matters out of the way and went on with life with only one noticeable change to the public.

They changed their family name to Haru, to mark their marriage in spring. In truth, they spent more time apart than together. One could easily take it as a scheme to avoid taxes or some such. Until Fukushu came along.

She grew up in a warm home, well taken care of. She learned how to distinguish between her mothers inherent apathy and her fathers depression and traumas marked both mentally and by the loss of an arm. She was loved, even if others might have seen it as almost neglect. Fukushu was not. Her parents loved her, and her, them.

After all, even the most downcast day is a day you can build memories in.

But, like tears in rain, those days have long left with no trace but those Grey memories.

Some called it an accident, others a serial killer. The news had a different story every hour for the famed Kenshi and her dead husband.

Fukushu knows what happened that night, the night she turned eleven. A dozen hooded figures, half cut down by her mother and a few more beaten by her fathers sheer unwillingness to go down. Like a roach he endured and skittered till he laid down his life to save her.

Next was a blur, she was concussed and crying and confused and so much else. Yet she would not forget what it was she saw. Her mother, those symbols, the words that still echoed from long cold lungs…

No one believed her.

After that night she was shipped to the coast to be in her grandmother's care. An old woman saltier than the sea and with a peg leg that hated solid ground. She took the young lass underneath her wing and they went to see for over a year. Teaching her granddaughter the skills needed upon a ship and imparting vitriol over those who killed her blood.

There is something ironic that the only one who believed a child's insane sounding stories was a woman who was two steps off of the gangplank leading into the seas of madness.

Unfortunately, solely for her grandmother, the police did catch up and force her to enroll her into school again. Where Fukushu now had to play catch up with hands more used to roughspun ropes and wires then paper and lead.

Grandmother was an old fashioned sort. The kind who set aside her sea born soul to stay dry on land for as long as possible to ensure Fukushu lived life well. That she raised her as she did her own daughter years before.

It all culminated in Fukushu being a rather soft spoken and polite girl. Somehow lacking the apathetic disgust or her mother, the apathetic depression of her father, or the apathetic…well the screaming lack of care for anything not directly related to her Grandmother.

With good manners and good grades, she got offered a transfer to that island ever distinct on the horizon. New Amakusa city calls, and deep within her lies that burning ember that awaits fuel. A flickering flame barely restrained over years of patience to find what doctrine led to her parents death, what cult or organization insidiously lurks in the shadows killing indiscriminately. She will search, and she will find them. And when she does?

Grandmothers Harpoon had long since been whetted with blood.

Personality
Fukushu is a person that appears and acts soft spoken and polite, And she is. To most anyone she has to interact with she is just a nice, well raised lady with manners.

Yet beneath the surface of a calm sea lies the riptides to drag down all around.

She is deeply obsessed with trying to find anything about why her parents were killed, who orchestrated it, and where they are so she can kill them in turn. When agitated as such, she can appear one step away from madness as she rants at the heavens with such vitriol that would leave paradise as embers.

Skills

Fukushu has a rather eclectic set of skills. She is moderately skilled in the blade, has knowledge of bugs and German, was a rather stalwart academic in classes, and has many such skills useful to fishing and whaling. She can tie an unbreakable knot, weave a rope from twine or hair, and toss a harpoon with great accuracy. Her grandmother also passed down a large sum of fish based recipes that she can cook rather well.

Though she does lack many casual skills many might have, lacking in social manners that leave her sounding stilted or cold.

Short Bio:

Ariyoshi was born to a mother who had just retired from a successful modeling career and a diplomat father. His mom had wanted a secure life for her child, and a man who she could travel with, and married someone who provided both. Because of his father’s work, Ariyoshi moved often during his childhood, making lasting friendships difficult. It was natural for him to gravitate to games, movies, anime, videos, and streams; activities he could enjoy on his own or with others online. His parents did limit his screen time, but weren’t concerned at what was seen as a normal interest.

As an only child, Ariyoshi was faced with much pressure. His father emphasized success, and expected him to excel in any and all endeavors he took up. Meanwhile, his mother exposed him to various activities to broaden his horizons. She had a good head for business, and a few years after his birth, had taken up work as a consultant in the fashion industry. One day, she took him with her to work, where he saw everything from costume fitting, to a fashion show, to photoshoots. He was enamored, and told his mother he wanted to ‘do that too’. His mother wasn’t sure what he’d meant. She signed him up for theatre, which was fun, but wasn’t quite it. She roped him into wearing cute outfits, and created a short-lived hit on the internet, which Ariyoshi was alright with, but that wasn’t it either. Finally, he told her he wanted to make the pretty clothes. A part of her was reluctant, but she signed him up for a sewing class.

Ariyoshi was thrilled. His father was not. Their marriage was strained already, but if there was a breaking point, he’s certain it was this. His father dismissed his interest as silly and impractical. His mother, while nervous about him entering such a highly competitive world, hoped it might be a phase, and saw no harm in encouraging him. Arguments ensued: shouting, accusations, heated debates about what was best for him, which parent cared more, whose parenting approach was right.

On the cusp of adolescence, he still cared for his parents. He wasn’t sure how to please both, but he tried his damnedest. The stress built ever higher, pushing him deeper into fantasy and fiction. With internet as his go-to, it was inevitable that he’d find a new outlet. Ariyoshi thought his mother would understand, but when he expressed that he wanted to dress as such-and-such, even she grew concerned. His parents argued more. In response, he distanced from them in equal measure. To his mother, he claimed what he’d said that one time had been a whim, and reassured her he knew reality from fiction. To his father, he claimed that he was serious enough to pursue design as a career in the future.

It didn’t stop his parents from divorcing.

It didn’t stop him from upkeeping his image as the dedicated, studious son.

It sure as hell didn’t stop him from cosplay.

Even with all those turbulences going on, Ariyoshi got accepted into the high school in New Amakusa City on a scholarship. His father pays him based on his report card performance, and they keep in touch through occasional video calls which feel uncomfortably like business meetings. He lives in his mother’s apartment, but she’s rarely home. He likes it that way, because it makes hiding his cosplaying easier. Even with an allowance, he works a part-time job. A year and a half ago, he was scouted as a model, and seeing no reason to refuse, he accepted. Since then, he’s kept a low profile, compartmentalizing every part of his life: school, work, family, and hobby.

Personality:

Ariyoshi is perpetually tired, addicted to caffeine, and always claims to be busy, rarely seeming to have free time. He’s the guy at school who takes naps or disappears who knows where during breaks. As a student, he is engaged enough to either be respected by teachers – or at least left alone as a nonproblematic, ace pupil. He’s one of those annoying “I didn’t study much, but got over 90%” types. You will never see him tutoring anyone; don’t even bother asking for learning tips. Despite his public image, he puts in the bare minimum he can to get by and still be among the top. With his brains, it’s not that hard. He could get into pretty much any university he liked, but doesn’t have a clear idea on what he’ll do in the future. Maybe something business related. As long as it pays well, and lets him keep a part of his life to himself, he doesn’t frankly care.

Ariyoshi has only a few people he hangs out with at school, but is more social in his personal life. He’s not all that approachable – perpetual sleep deprivation means he is snappy, no-nonsense, and extremely pragmatic. He hates his time being wasted, and will let you know when you’re doing it. His true passion lies in cosplay, and he bonds more easily with people whose interests are in the same or related area. Ariyoshi has social media accounts for two aspects of his life: one for his boring, studious, grade-obsessed front, and another for cosplay. Ironically, the latter is truer to his self, even if he only ever features as make-believe characters on there.
