Constance Monroe

Location:Château de La Lune - Guest Rooms

Constance heard what Ralph had to say and nodded. However, she didn't really have the time. The hour was ticking away and if she wanted to look her best, she needed every moment of it. "I don't really have a moment, I need to get ready, and it will seems suspicious if I'm late. I will join in the passing and sharing of information later. Sorry." Constance wasn't trying to withhold anything, but if Sam really had talked to Jeanne, she might have passed on the same information to him about Miguel. Though maybe there was the information about the grandfather and the stairs?

She shook her head as she headed to her room and bid the others good bye till later. Was it a sound idea to go to her room alone? Probably not. Did she have any better ideas? Also probably not. Constance had one thing really on her mind in that moment and it was to get ready for the ball. She went to find her dress and hung it up and set up her little steam device to go while she worked on her make up and hair. She would catch up with the others if she had time left over. If not, after the ball.

Millicent

The meeting being so close to her room was perfect. She could easily get changed after tonight. Millicent remained unsure if sharing every piece of info was smart. She knew someone had access to their secrets, and she wasn't sure it was the same person who killed Renee and Miguel. But it seemed the others were keen to share. Plus, it could lay the groundwork for her theory.

"Okay, so Brendan and I looked into the connection between Renee and Richard. We know that there was a paternity test done, right? So we sort of confronted Richard about it. The man has...issues. Memory issues. He spoke about Renee and her mother, as he had just seen them the other day. Richard and Renee's mother was a thing. It's what led to Renee's birth. But Richard said he didn't know about Renee, but said he knew what she did for work. It was a pretty obvious lie, but I think he's telling the truth. I don't think he's involved in her death. According to him, Eleanor has the final say, and Eleanor wouldn't have picked Renee if she didn't feel Renee was worth it. Someone knew about the connection between Richard and Renee, though. We saw it in the text. If it isn't Eleanor, then someone submitted Renee to come here, knowing that connection, and likely had Eleanor agree to it. I still think Eleanor has a strong motive, but any of the family members could be involved. It would impact them too if it came out that Renee was Richard's daughter."

Tony glanced over when Ralph told him and Constance about the meeting that was happening. "Thanks, but I'll catch up later. Hopefully I'll have much more to share then, anyway." After responding he proceeds to his room to get ready.

Time was already running short, but fortunately, black tie made things very simple. Retrieving his tuxedo and his travel steamer from his luggage, he immediately got to work on making it look presentable. Working carefully but quickly, Tony steams out the wrinkles from the jacket, shirt, pants, and—after checking his watch to make sure he wasn't running late—even the cummerbund. Fortunately the bowtie looked fine, so with that done he started polishing his black oxfords. Less than half an hour to get ready was definitely pushing it, but fortunately they did not need too much work to be back to looking their best.

Checking his watch again, time was definitely running short, but luckily everything was more or less ready. Pleased with how quickly that was accomplished, Tony went to go freshen up a bit in the bathroom while waiting for everything to finish drying. As he did so, he couldn't help but to chuckle as he wondered whether any of the others—besides Constance, of course—would actually do black tie attire correctly. It didn't seem likely.

Ralph finished getting dressed in his suit. He stepped into the bathroom, and ran some water over his hands so he could fix his hair, slicking it back.

“Do we have a game plan for how to do this party?” Ralph shifted. He was not a party person. He had been to a fair amount of black ties due to his profession. However, he preferred his plane. God, he would much rather be flying than dealing with this. They had a few more minutes left to figure out how to get through this ball.

He knew dinner would be served during it. There also seemed like there would be some sort of presentation.
“Question, Elenore makes the final vote for who comes here. Didn’t someone say something last night about their vote for the finalist?” He froze the conversation coming back to him. “That was when Renee slammed her head into his nose. He told Lena he wouldn’t vote for Renee. Lena nominated Renee.”

Rhiannon mused over Millicent’s findings and Ralph’s realization. ”It could be possible that Lena knew about Renee’s parental origins then. If we are tagging her with the blackmail angle. It would be a good scandal and cause a decent bit of drama that might lead to someone making a mistake and taking her or both of them out of the will. Which is what Lena confessed to trying to do. Lawrence is hot-headed enough and has been accused of killing a co-worker. Lena could have staged the whole thing, knowing Renee would be murdered without lifting a finger. Although, how does she plan to frame Lawrence with that? Then there’s Miguel. Assuming he got close to outing whoever, was it Lena or someone else? But I definitely don’t think Lena did this alone. She had help. Either another family member or a staff member. Maybe one of the ones she hired to put the blackmail in our rooms?”

The possibility of getting closer to figuring out who killed Renee sent a pleasant tingle through Rhiannon. They stood up and stretched. Rhi needed to get back to the room and change before supper, but they felt they had debriefed enough. ”We could split up during dinner, try talking to people one on one, they might be a bit more forthcoming that way.”

Constance looked at herself in the mirror as she gently applied her eyeliner and eye shadow and sighed. How had this weekend gotten so... messy? Well, she knew how it had gotten so messy, and it had all started with the blackmail. No. It clearly had started well before then. Hadn't Lawrence said something about Renee about the night before? She was trying to remember what he had yelled when her curling iron beeped at her that it was ready. The hair style she had picked wasn't ornate, but needed some curls.

Once she finished her hair style Constance moved out to the main room to get dressed. She tugged on her undergarments and then turned to the dress and smiled. Modest enough, but just showed enough skin to tantalize a certain someone. She chuckled to herself as she slid it on and then went to check herself over once more. She made sure not a hair was out of place, no make up was smeared and everything was good. She then took out her heels and went to put them on and slid them on. She was glad that she had gotten a pedicure before she had arrived, as her feet had needed it.

She gently plucked a shawl out of her bag and wrapped it around herself and walked out of her room, and went to wait for Tony. Of course a lady like herself needed a gentleman escort after all.

Sam listened as Millicent began to debrief them on what she had learned. It didn't seem to amount to much, yet also it gave quite a few more details that they needed to cross off players from within the clue board. Richard was a doddering old man with the memory befit his age, and seemed to have either no idea how to lie appropriately or was simply just mixing up his own reality with fantasy. Another thing that could easily be chalked up to his age. One thing stood clear however, that was that Ralph had the right of it to suspect Lena of being Renee's nominater. She certainly would've had her hands on the information about the paternity test and more than likely could send the cryptic message from somewhere to Renees phone about it. Something clicked in Sam's brain. ”Do you two still have her phone? I want to see if the number who messaged her matches alongside the one that messaged me. That could point us closer to a direction given whoever Tony was contacted by was a potentially separate person, but if this one is also distinct then it gives me an idea on what might be going on here.”

Sam began removing his pants, the white button up shirt hanging low enough to fully cover his boxers so that nothing was being shown as he swapped them out for a pair of black slim dress pants. ”Either way, we can tie one Nominee to one Nominer, and we can assume that that tie runs deeper beyond that given the amount of knowledge that person has. Some of Miguel's equipment was missing too…if we can locate it maybe we can figure out more about what's going on. He may have caught something in the background of his video or in an audio recording that was incriminating and caused him to meet the end he did. Or…there is always the option he died by accident doing something reckless and when someone found him they wanted to keep panic to a minimum after another death had already happened and so they hid the body.”

Ivanna (Brendan)

Brendan nodded as Millicent explained things to the others. He wasn't sure where to jump in or how much to say. She seemed to be saying just about everything anyway. And maybe that was a good thing, as the others seemed to be opening up with what they'd found too. Maybe if they all worked together...just as long as they didn't trust the wrong person. There seemed to be suspiscion of Elenore, Lena...so as long as Brendan stuck with other nominees, maybe he'd be safe? Brendan would stick by the other nominees, and he'd be fine, probably. Unless one of them did it, but what were the odds of that? Brendan actually had no idea, but it felt reassuring to tell himself that it was unlikely.

He felt himself relax, slightly.

Everything that was being said was of interest, but Sam's words stuck out the most. He wanted to see Renee's phone, to see if the numbers matched texts he had gotten. Of course.

"We have it. I don't know how charged...but we'll get it and you can compare."

Sam continued speaking, mentioning Miguel missing equipment and that maybe he had recorded something someone didn't want anyone else seeing. This was getting complex. He'd had a sense that he should stick to himself, but trusting no one wasn't going to get them anywhere. They'd have to trust each other and share information.

It was his instict, even back home, to get close to one person and just trust them. But that had been his downfall before, so maybe it was time to start trusting.

He looked at Millicent, then all the others. They were defenitly safe. Probably.

Millicent

Location: Château de La Lune: Sam's Roon -> Millicent's Room

Millicent was still on Team Eleanor, but it made sense if any of the family killed Renee. If Lena nominated Renee, then it stood to reason Lena knew who Renee was and her connection to the La Lune family. "It's someone in the family, I am sure of it. If we are doing this party, we'll need to be careful. Can't let them know we are suspecting anyone of anything. Soon as the wrong person gets the hint, they could destroy any evidence they have or...worse." The underlying thing being that if the murderer or murdererers killed once, they would have no qualms doing so again.

Millicent let Brandon confirm they still had the phone. "We can get it later, but right now I want to get ready for the party. Good work everyone." Millicent slipped over to her room and went to her suitcase. She opted to wear a black dress with silver heels. She swirled her hair into an updo fastened with a black hair pin. She put on some silver earrings and did her make-up more casually, only some lip color and mascara. Part of her felt worried about this party. With everything going on, it was bound to have people on edge. As much as she figured the family wanted to move on past the deaths, there was an air of dread over the estate.

Someone at the party was a murderer. Renee didn't deserve what happened. She was the result of a man who was in love and then didn't support them afterwards, for whatever reason. Renee only wanted to know who her father was and she was killed as a result. Someone lured her here, tempted her with information, and then killed her.

She knew they were on the right track. Hopefully, they would get answers soon.

Leaving the bathroom, Tony was pleased to see that everything was dry; he would not be late. As he began putting on his tuxedo, a routine he was quite familiar with, he allowed his mind to wander yet again to the problems that still needed to be solved.

He doubted that the favor he still had to find time to do for George would directly reveal anything important, but getting into the family's private quarters would present a lot of opportunities, even if he was under strict escort. If he could discreetly watch George enter the code for the door, that would give all of the nominees the information they need to be able to sneak in themselves. Then they might have a real chance at finding whatever evidence might be hidden away.

That was all ifs and maybes, though; no direct leads on who the culprits are. He's seen nothing yet that changes his initial suspicions, though. Elenore must be involved to some extent, and Lawrence seems almost too obvious to the point of probably being a red herring. She almost certainly was not working alone, but ultimately this is all her show and no matter who else was involved, she's the head of the beast. But at least for Tony, what mattered most was finding and erasing any trace of the information that he'd found on his desk when he arrived.

Well, that would have to be resolved soon... time's running short. But Tony's watch told him this was not the only deadline that loomed; it was nearly time for the ball. After fastening some intricate silver cufflinks on each wrist, and checking everything in the mirror one last time to make sure every detail was perfect, he stepped out into the hallway and headed towards Constance's room. Barely a moment later, she stepped out into the hallway herself. As Tony went to meet her, the sight before him made all thoughts of murders and blackmail slip away. "Wow."

7:00 PM - Friday, July 18th, 2025 - Château de La Lune, France

@PatientBean@TheMaster99@KazAlkemi@Trainerblue192@kittyluna45@KTostada

The doors to the ballroom swung open with quiet ceremony, revealing a room that seemed to exist outside of time. It was breathtaking.

The ballroom stretched upward through two full stories, transforming what could have been a grand reception hall into something befitting an old European château. Three immense crystal chandeliers hung from the vaulted ceiling, their warm golden light cascading across polished parquet floors until the room seemed to glow from within. Rich burgundy draperies framed towering windows, while gilded moldings climbed cream-colored walls in elegant flourishes. Every detail seemed devoted to preserving another era. Someone had decorated the room as though the Roaring Twenties had simply continued uninterrupted, leaving no room for modern sensibilities to intrude.

Encircling the ballroom was a second-floor gallery that overlooked the dance floor from all four sides. Ornate wrought-iron railings ran the entire perimeter, allowing guests above to observe everything unfolding below without ever joining the crowd. At either end of the room, graceful spiral staircases curled upward to the gallery, their dark wooden steps worn smooth by generations of formal gatherings and family celebrations.

The upper level served as more than a viewing balcony. Four sets of double doors broke the gallery's symmetry. The first opened toward the château's foyer, allowing guests to move between the grand entrance and the balcony without returning to the ballroom floor.

The second led into the public lounge that connected the estate's guest suites, making it easy for visitors staying overnight to slip away from the festivities for a quiet drink or conversation before returning unnoticed.

The third set of doors was different. Fashioned from darker oak than the others and adorned with understated brass hardware, they led into the private upper wing of the La Lune family itself. There was no visible handle, only a discreet electronic keypad mounted beside the frame.

The door was locked.

Opposite the entrance from the foyer, tall French doors opened onto an exterior balcony overlooking the vineyards and lake. Tonight they remained firmly shut. Rain hammered relentlessly against the glass while wind tugged at the wrought-iron railings beyond. On another evening, guests would no doubt gather there with glasses of wine beneath the stars. Instead, lightning occasionally illuminated the abandoned balcony before darkness reclaimed it.

Below, the ballroom floor mirrored the organization of the gallery above. Three sets of doors connected it to the rest of the château. The grand entrance through the foyer stood behind the arriving guests. To one side, broad swinging doors led directly into the kitchen, where the steady rhythm of cooks and serving staff could occasionally be heard between musical phrases. Across the room, another pair of heavy oak doors disappeared into the library beneath the La Lune family's private wing, their carved panels depicting twisting vines and grape clusters.

Finally, flanking the small stage on either side, elegant French doors opened onto a covered stone patio overlooking the rear gardens and the lake beyond. The lanterns outside cast pools of amber light across rain-soaked flagstones, though not a single soul ventured into the storm.

Music floated through the ballroom from a quartet of musicians seated upon the stage. Two violinists, a violist, and a cellist performed beneath warm stage lighting, dressed impeccably in black evening attire. Their bows moved in practiced harmony as French waltzes, timeless ballroom dances, and jazz standards lovingly arranged for strings filled the enormous room. The soaring ceiling carried every note effortlessly, allowing conversations to flourish without ever competing with the music.

Gabrielle watched the musicians with a look on her face that spoke volumes of desire. To be them. To play like them... To play at all.

Scattered throughout the ballroom were round tables of two distinct styles. Some were traditional dining tables draped in crisp ivory linen and surrounded by upholstered chairs. Others stood at bar height with matching stools, encouraging guests to stand, mingle, and drift naturally from one conversation to the next. Every table was circular, ensuring no one occupied a place of honor and everyone remained part of the discussion. Or at least, that seemed to be the intention.

Each table was dominated by one of Elenore La Lune's elaborate handmade centerpieces. Towering arrangements of twisting grapevines, dried lavender, blown-glass grapes, antique silver candelabras, pressed flowers beneath crystal domes, miniature vineyard scenes, tiny wine barrels, and painstaking recreations of the château itself transformed every table into a work of art.

They were exquisite.

They were also spectacularly impractical.

Some climbed high enough to obscure the face of anyone seated opposite, forcing guests to lean left or right simply to maintain eye contact. Others spread outward in intricate circles that left only carefully measured spaces for plates and wine glasses.

Several members of the La Lune family had already arrived, dressed impeccably for the black-tie affair. Conversations drifted lazily beneath the music as tuxedos and evening gowns caught the chandelier light.

The household staff matched the occasion perfectly. The butler, immaculate in white tie and tails, stood near the entrance greeting arrivals with practiced dignity while maids glided silently through the room carrying polished silver trays laden with exquisite French hors d'oeuvres. Delicate gougères, smoked duck on brioche, miniature tartlets of caramelized onion and chèvre, escargot in puff pastry, and truffle-scented pommes dauphine disappeared almost as quickly as they were offered.

Outside, the rain continued to batter the estate.

Inside, surrounded by candlelight, string music, crystal, and centuries of family history, the ballroom remained every inch the setting for an elegant celebration.

Only the day's events seemed to mar the carefully crafted scene. Elenore, for her part, looked as calm as could be expected. She too had changed and wore an elegant backless dress. It would have looked lovely on someone ten years her junior, now it seemed... desperate. As if she was trying so hard to hold onto a past that was slipping through her weakening fingers.

The clock chimed the hour and Ralph, not wanting to be late, urged the others to head to the ballroom. In the hall he saw Constance and Tony. Ralph forced a smile. He was irritated with their clear lack of concern over the situation, but also couldn’t entirely blame them. They had a lot to think about, and more time to ask questions of the family and staff. This ball would have everyone in the same room for several hours.

Ralph didn’t bother going down stairs. He had started to gain his bearings of the place and went directly from the foyer through the doors upstairs to the gallery of the Grand Ballroom. He blinked. A little dazzled by the place. It had been transformed over the last few hours. Had Elenore done that by herself? Surely the maids had helped, and Felix.

Speaking of, Felix greeted him. He had apparently anticipated that they’d be coming directly from the upstairs entrance. Felix held a platter of champagne flutes, and said, “Before dinner, may I offer you a glass of our 2020 Cuvée Vorace? Produced exclusively for the ceremony, it is made in the traditional method from estate-grown Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Madame La Lune hopes you'll enjoy it."

Ralph nodded and took a glass. He had tasted wine before this trip. It wasn’t uncommon to get wine’d and dinned in his profession as a pilot. Especially since he often did private flights. He wasn't a wine expert. He knew enough to tell when someone was trying to impress him with a label rather than what was actually inside the bottle. He knew enough not to swirl the glass dramatically just because everyone else was doing it, and he knew enough to be suspicious when someone claimed a wine had "notes of a dozen different things" that he couldn't possibly identify.

Ralph lifted the glass, letting the ballroom lights catch the wine. The Cuvée Vorace was a pale gold, brighter than he expected, with tiny bubbles rising continuously through the glass, so fine and delicate they looked almost like strands of light floating upward.

He brought the glass closer and took a breath. The first thing he noticed was citrus. This was not the sharp smell of lemon juice, but something softer. Lemon peel. Green apple. Something fresh and clean. Beneath it was something warmer, a faint nuttiness like almonds. He wasn't sure if he was supposed to notice all of it or if he was simply being influenced by everything around him, but even without the right words to describe it, he could tell there was something special about it.

He took a sip. The first thing that struck him was how clean it was, like biting into a cold apple on a warm day. Then the flavor shifted, softening into something smoother and richer. There was a creamy texture beneath the freshness, followed by hints of toasted nuts, honey, and something faintly sweet. Maybe vanilla. Maybe something else. He couldn't name every detail, but he knew what he liked.

Rhiannon left the room to change as the conversation came to a close. It was a black-tie event, but Rhiannon decided to go the other way and wear white. Very rarely did they wear such a bright colour, but white was a sign of the dead and a mark of respect. Rhiannon found it oddly fitting that they had chosen to pack this outfit for tonight’s event.

After applying a light pink make-up, Rhi left their room and headed down to the ballroom. Bits of the conversation floated in and out of their mind as they walked, their heels clacking a comfortable rhythm on the floor as they walked. Steps to a dance formed in their mind, temporarily distracting them before Rhiannon walked through the doors and into the ballroom.

They paused, taking in the overly ornate scene before them. Did Renee truly want to live with people who lived like this? It was a bit much. It was spectacular. Rhiannon sighed, walking over to join Ralph and accepted a glass of wine, but didn’t sip the concoction yet.

”You clean up well,” Rhi said to Ralph conversationally.
