Bruce Wayne reclined in his chair as Barbara updated him on everything he already knew.

“The protesters have rallied outside the school just as they promised they would. Plenty of 'No more Metas' signs as well as the more creative ones chanting about how they don't want Superman, they want a Super Ban.” Barbara Gordon reported, looking out the window that overlooked most of the campus. “We've made sure security presence is at a maximum of course, but there's only so much we can actually do.”

“Let them protest.” The aging Batman replied, waving a dismissive hand, “Maybe some of them will realize how fortunate they are to even be able to.”

“I doubt it,” Barbara answered, turning to look at Bruce. Streaks of gray had started to adorn her fiery red hair. “Most of them don't look much older than our students, I'd be surprised if any were old enough to even remember Brainiac. And the older ones were probably protesting against Clark and the League even before The Last Laugh.”

Bruce sighed. His hair had thinned and he was completely gray now, hardly surprising for a man nearly in his sixties. It had been a over a decade since he'd traded the cowl for a desk and he still wasn't used to it, despite the aches and pains of old age.

“I wish they wouldn't call it that,” he huffed, “It implies that he won.”

“If we're being honest, Bruce, he did. He took an entire worlds shining symbol of hope and destroyed it in a day. Sure, it may not have lasted, but a fleeting victory is still a victory.”

“How's the rest of the staff looking?” Bruce asked, in a not too subtle attempt to change the subject.

“Fine. They've been doing this for five years now, I think it's safe to say they're getting the hang of it.” Ms. Gordon replied. “Barry is a little excited, but you can't really blame him.”

“About the Speed Force user? I'm not surprised, it's been a while since we've seen one of those. One that didn't need V9 at least. I looked at her file.”

“Of course you did, you read all their files, Bruce.”

“It sounds like she could stand to learn as much from Snart as she could from Barry. A history of theft but at least there isn't any violence. It might be worthwhile to make sure she take Electrical Engineering too.”

Barbara shrugged. “It's an elective, it's up to her if she takes it or not. She's going to be in Chemistry no matter what so she's bound to run into both of them sooner or later.”

“And the other new arrivals?”

“Same as before. No change, which I'm sure you know. The files for the Rodgers girl were sent over by ARGUS-”

“You mean the files meant to look like ARGUS files were sent over.” Bruce corrected.

“Right. Diana and Arthur's daughter's enrollment has been finalized as well.”

“Still no word from Diana?”

“Of course not, Bruce. You know where her attention is focused right now. Arthur got in touch though, he had some advice to give.”

“I'm sure he did.” Bruce quipped, his face blank and betraying nothing, but both knew how the King of Atlantis could be, especially when it came to his family.

“Otherwise, everything is running smoothly. Alura is settling in to her room, the staff are briefed and ready, security has been adequately equipped, background checks have been run and Brother Eye is feeding regular updates.”

“Good. Thank you, Barbara.” The retired hero nodded. Barbara knew that he was already well appraised of the situation, there was no way he would remain out of the loop for even a second, regardless of whether his daughter were present or not.

Barbara returned the nod, turning to leave. She was similarly prepared for the day but she still wanted to get an early start.

“Barbara?” She stopped at the door, turning to look back. It was foolish to think he'd forgotten but it was worth a shot. “Is he here yet?”

“You already know he is, Bruce.”

“And he really doesn't know?” Barbara sighed. It was moments like these that reminded her that, for all his accomplishments, despite all he had done and the image he had made for himself, Bruce Wayne was still human.

“It was ten years before you even knew he existed, let alone the rest of it. He really doesn't know. And Selina has asked that we keep it that way.”

Bruce quietly nodded, saying nothing more. There wasn't anything else to say. Turning back to the door, Barbara exited the Dean's Office and prepared for the day to begin.

Maggie looked into Jenny’s blue eyes as she placed a comm on her young charge’s left wrist saying Now Jenny this is very important, you mustn't allow your ability to destroy the chips or it to come to harm. It is a cell phone and monitor so you can contact me or call your friends, it also allows us to keep track of your location and health. Now if you want privacy please shield the broadcast and reception features and try not to burn it out if you can but please don’t worry if you do and >>>

Maggie trailed off seeing that she was obviously losing Jenny’s interest because she was going full on overprotective mom and had to laugh as she saw her charge’s eyes had gone vacant which was a sure sign that she’d shifted her internal focus to her 6th sense.

Jenny loved Maggie as only a child could love a mother even though she knew the woman wasn’t even of her own species because the older female cared for her as mother’s cared for their own biological children but just like any teen she also longed for the freedom to make her own mistakes and the promise that if she should need it return to the maternal embrace of protection and understanding. She was waiting for her guardian finish her expression of worry and sweeping the area’s magnetic fields mapping the placement of power conduits, electronic devices and their frequencies so that she could take care that she not create any trouble by accidentally destroying them with a standing wave effect which was sure to anger people because of the expense and trouble repairing the damage she caused even unintentionally.

Oh sorry Maggie I was doing a grid map but I was listening.

I will be very careful with the comm and place a protective field over it
she giggled softly and hugged her closest friend then continued Thank you Maggie for going to the trouble that it took to get me a cell so that I can experience life as a homo sapien preadult just like the others my age that I will be mixing with. I understand the Agency’s need to know my whereabouts and will make sure the broadcast and reception features function even if I have to mimic them so that they can work in all but the most shielded environments.

I will now give you my 100% for any other expressions of paternal concern or requests and again apologize for not waiting to map my surroundings before you had finished.

Maggie couldn’t help but laugh once more as without meaning to Jenny reminded her that she could multitask with the best of them in a polite and logical manner while also pointing out that she wasn’t human. Then she struggled not to tear up emotionally because they would soon be parted.

Jenny I only hope you will miss me as much as I know I will miss you.

Now I know I don’t need to ask if you have everything you need but if there is anything you do need that circumstances or situation call for that we have missed please contact me at once
then giving Jenny a final hug she ushered the sweet and innocent alien that had touched her so deeply from the car and drove away before she broke down into tears.

Jenny floated just inches off the ground supported by the magnetic fields of a planet not of her own origin and watched Maggie drive off. She was surprised by a sudden feeling of loss and abandonment watching her leave and analyzed her emotions trying to understand why she felt like either flying after her or just reaching out and pulling the car back to her so that she could be once more in the safe and comforting company of the Meta female she’d become so attached to that it worried her knowing Maggie’s job was a dangerous one. It was normal to feel as she did Jenny concluded, one of the many hurdles in adulthood that she must cover if she were to progress so she turned and drifted towards the entrance of the school.

It was when she noticed that she was being surrounded by what appeared to be angry homo sapiens carrying signs she realized she was seeing a cluster of anti-meta philosophy followers who saw her as a threat so she lifted herself quickly out of their reach and sight by accelerating into the school's protective walls.

Araxie was not interested in being a cape. Capes were responsible for almost of all the troubles for the last two decades. She was strictly anti-Meta, until she came one herself. She used her powers for her own gain, never once used it to help people until she found she couldn't stand by and let someone get hurt when it was right in front of her. That is how she became the Bolt, she hated it, but it was stuck no matter how much she tried to change it and she tried really hard. She couldn't even use it for financial gain because the shitty newspaper that coined it also copyrighted it. So she made a solemn vow she would do everything in her power to make that newspaper her bitch one day. She heard rumors of Flash was able to time travel by running really, really fast, she wanted to learn how so she could go back in time and give herself a proper name and own the copyrights herself, instead of letting some corporate prick earn money off her reputation. She figured the best way to do that was to go where the Flash was teaching that god awful Cape School.

She waited till the last minute to leave. She packed her backpack with the bare essentials, her laptop, tablet, phone, the various accessories and requirements for those. She also packed a few essentials so she could continue her V9 business. This time she didn't have to make the stuff she was a pure and untainted source of it. It lacked the more dangerous side effects of the formula she once used.

She was about halfway there when she realized she forgot her purse. She ran all the way back to get it. She had to down several super calorie bars she whipped up in her lab, the closest she would ever get to domestic housewife work. She ran back to school but of course she was late.

Aurtha gazed at the incredibly large and populated campus, paying no attention to the constant protesting that could be heard in the distance. Her attention was jumping between the many different children among the crowd, to the different buildings that housed them all, but ultimately, she was taking in the new environment that she'll call her home. It all began to hit her at once: not being with her caretakers daily, having less guidance in her life, and possibly no real amazonian figure to learn from.

"Aurtha, dear," a matured voice from a tall, lean, amazonian woman spoke clearly as she hustled her away around the crowding people. Two others came close behind her that matched her appearance in height, stature, and bright features.

Aurtha turned quickly, breaking her stare from the now-intimidating campus. Her long, wavy hair whipped over her shoulder while a deep, amazonian voice left her full, pink lips, replying shakily,"Yes, mom?" Although she knew that Imalda, the woman who looked after her for as long as she could remember, was not her true mother, she felt the love shared between a proper mother and child so profoundly that she had no hesitation to refer to her as 'mom'.

Imalda rummaged through the stack of papers she was given among signing her in and stowed them in a folder to hand to Aurtha,"Everything you need is in here to start your schooling. You have your schedule, a pamphlet that explains the classes, what electives you can take, you have your --."

"I'm gonna miss you," Aurtha interrupted,"So much..."

A warm hand was pressed against her arm gently from another amazonian woman -- Imalda's sister, Treya, that became Aurtha's primary trainer in combat,"Do not get too sad, my dear, home is only one call away."

Aurtha turned to Treya's grown daughter, Maya, who resembled such a profound amazonian warrior's appearance, even dressed in such casual clothes. She spoke in a comforting manner,"You have so much opportunity here. Had something like this existed in my youth, I would have no second thoughts of attending as well."

"Have you met your roommate yet?" Imalda questioned Aurtha.

Aurtha shook her head,"No. She hadn't moved in yet."

Imalda grabbed Aurtha to embrace her in one last hug before they departed from each other,"Remember all that we taught you -- about life, about the amazonian way, about how to be kind." Although Aurtha heard this endlessly from her, she let her talk, just for the sake of hearing her lecture one last time,"You may still feel different and unwelcomed here, despite being among those of great power, being that your life is so different from most. Just always, always, always, know that I love you as my own, and you will always be my daughter."

Aurtha let loose a few tears, but also a chuckle,"You know we'll see eachother sooner than later, right?"

Imalda mimicked her chuckle,"Of course, my dear. I'm just frightened for whom it is that may influence you. You are the daughter of Diana of Themyscira and the King of Atlantis, also granddaughter to Zeus himself. Do not let anyone use you for wrong, trust your heart and all that is right."

"I know, I know," Aurtha finally attempted to dismiss the oh-so familiar lecture.

"Listen," Imalda continued, refusing to release Aurtha from her embrace,"You have such powerful parents and ancestors, but you also have a loving family right here. We are your family, Aurtha, and we will think about you daily until your return. Be proud of where you come from."

Imalda released her, checking her watch for the time,"You should go. Find some friends, enjoy your freedom!" Imalda insisted with a bittersweet smile. "Wait!" Imalda commanded, reaching around her for a small, beat-up case that contained a beautiful violin that Aurtha grew up with. "We almost forgot this, even though you played it for me everyday." Imalda handed it to Aurtha,"This -- this is what I'm going to miss so much. I hope their ears are worthy of your playing!"

Aurtha laughed, giving them all one last hug and a few more sentences of 'I love you's' and 'I'll see you soon's' before they left the front gates and for Aurtha to be on her own. Aurtha turned to gaze at the campus, hesitantly taking the steps towards the crowd of people moving in, meeting each other, and signing up for classes. Already, she towered most of the children, not insecurely, but confidently. She held her violin tightly in one hand, and a folder of papers to read through eventually.

She made her way into the crowd.

Getting used to civilian life--that is life without using his Power Ring as a crutch--was tedious. If he was going to learn how to be a Lantern, he figured he had to walk among those he was going to protect. None of his self-righteous sentiment averted the stench of alcohol and urine on the city bus, however. Vernon knew he could easily take to the skies and make a grand entrance during orientation, but that would be the easy way out; he wasn't supposed to take the easy way out. So he bore the amalgamate of detestable smells for long as necessary. Soon, the bus slowed in front of his destination: the Oliver Queen Memorial School. There was a sea of bodies packed against one another and a barrage of epithets which Vernon could not decipher.

He rose from his seat and walked to front of the bus where he made a prompt exit, upon which he was immediately greeted by an even more powerful cauldron of malodors: must, human body odor. Ugh. How long had they been out there? Sure, warm bodies pack heat when in close proximity to others, but by the Guardians this was inhumane. This, accompanied by the growing virulence of the protestors, Vernon began weaving his way through the crowd, a relatively easy task for someone as lean as he. The gates weren't too far ahead of him when his power ring began glowing in his pocket.

"Activating defensive protocol."

"What? Why? Not now."

As Vernon approached the gates, he stepped through them and into the courtyard of the school--unbeknownst to him (though obvious to anyone else) he had just exposed and subjected himself to the ire of the anti-metahuman protesters, even though he was human just like them. A brick came rocketing toward the back of Vernon's head. . .

"He's one of them!"

"Protocol activated." -- the brick bounced off the thin forcefield erected around his body. Reed looked over his shoulder in shock, and with partial disgust at the sheer hatred these people had for people they did not know. Vernon's annoyance was not enough to incite anger, he continued toward the school's steps where he admired the creative, comical, yet still sound architecture of the school's exterior. Vernon supposed Batman did have good taste after all. He smiled and walked inside.

Once Araxie made it to Cape School she saw the protestors. She decided to have a little fun with them. She took some of her "blood" and put it in the needles she brought. At super speed she began randomly injecting the stupidest looking ones. She then slowed down to normal speed, and watched the chaos.

"The Metas have infiltrated us, kill them." "The Metas are spying on us, kill them." Etc, etc, etc. Every sentence ended with kill them. Of course the ones with V9 ran away to avoid getting killed. Maybe the few she injected would change their minds.

It was fun watching the fools freak out. She decided to inject more, she sped up and raced through the crowds injecting more of them. She saw a gun on one of the protestors. Her first thought was damn why didn't he use it earlier. She acted on her second thought and confiscated the bullets from it. She gave the gun owner a double dose of V9.

Back at the gate she slowed down to watch them again. It proceeded the same, this time it was boring. She made sure to get the attention of the protestors then gave them the middle finger before she ran in at top speed. Somewhere in the school she had no clue she slowed down, she hated slowing down. Everything was so slow, it was excruciating but if she didn't her body would force her to. She was getting near her limit, running cross country, some of it three times, plus messing with the bigots outside. She downed several more of her super calorie bars, she hated the way those things tasted. She would have to ask Barry about improving the taste, she never could figure out how to improve the taste without sacrificing potency. She did manage to figure out how to make them to taste worse, that day she nearly dyed from dehydration from throwing up so much. Her parents thought she was experiencing Morning Sickness, what a joke like she would ever let some loser boy her age touch her or some creepy old dude touch her.

Jenny hovered just inside the doors of the girl’s Dorms with a puzzled expression as she lifted her left wrist to her lips asking Don please explain the homo sapiens outside of the school carrying signs that reflect negative opinions towards Meta humans and aliens?

A negative social group of minority status whose belief is that Meta and Aliens are the Enemy in a non active conflict; threat level medium. came a neutral male voice from her wrist

Thank You Don she answered still wearing a curious expression as she pivoted and flew to her assigned dorm room to see her things unpacked and put away before she tried the art of mingling.

She entered her room and her mind touched every object she owned knowing them without even a glancing visual because of the magnetic frequency of wires woven through each article. This was how she liked her things so that she was free of the individual handling of each piece so it was using those wires that she unpacked her luggage all at once.

To the casual observer it was like a silent explosion of clothing and articles you expected to see come from a girls school luggage that then resembled a weaving three dimensional pattern of cloth and colors as each piece sought its assigned position in her storage compartments.and closet. In the maelstrom of clothing Jenny’s casual sundress flew from her body and was smoothly replaced by her school uniform and smooth by phantom handmaids who even fixed her metallic hair into a lovely topknot style ponytail.

She decided then to indulge her developing ego by floating before the large mirror and critiquing her form and appearance as any female on the cusp of maturity must even though it was an effort in vain because her association with humans gave her their perspective. There was logic in the visual perception of a potential mates because much of it had to do with physical fitness and development and using that as a base she was forced to see to her energy form’s balance and power.

Query; Jenny; “Are You Lonely?” asked Don in a demonstration that she now had a living observer.

Of course I am lonely Wendy, to be otherwise wouldn’t be logical.

I am the only known member of my species, I have just said farewell to my mentor and plunged into an unknown environment that is the battleground of societal ranking on this world for beings like myself. I am a teen and a girl of a protective family environment used to the stability the Agency afforded me.

Lonely, Anxious, Fearful, though not in the survival life mode but the social mode so no need to call it out as a stage and I feel a sense of wonder so strongly I find it is intruding on my self control; again only as social interaction is concerned.

The school's PA system crackled to life, bringing with it a friendly, yet professional woman's voice. "Good morning, Oliver Queen Memorial. All students are required to attend an inaugural school assembly, which will take place on the basketball courts located within the school gym. This assembly will outline school policy as well as mark the beginning of Day One orientation. Assembly will commence in 30 minutes."

@RumikoOhara

Brother Eye

Numerous cameras monitored the school's interior and exterior, focusing primarily on the protesters gathered outside. The moment the brick was hurled at Vernon Reed, CCTV footage was recorded and examined, multiple cameras and microphones from smart devices were used to identify the party responsible and a thirty second video was cut together, showing the assailant's face and incriminating act as it occurred, forwarding the footage first to the Dean, second to the on-campus security personnel and finally to several law enforcement agencies, all while concealing the existence of the system that was monitoring every device on the planet.

-----------------------
Assailant: Brook Arlie Harden

Age: 49

D.O.B: 11-22-1988

Occupation: Aged Care Facility Nurse

Previous Convictions: Trespassing. Resisting Arrest. Verbal Assault.

Known Affiliations: United Church of Traditional Humanity
-----------------------
Notes: Soundbyte 00624 added to profile. Proclamation of "He's one of them!" (00:12) denotes an attack motivated by prejudice and discrimination. Hate Crime charges to be applied.
Chance of successful prosecution: 83% with consideration towards prior convictions, current public opinion and social media trends.
Chance of successful rehabilitation: 27% with consideration to psychological profile and digital medical records.
Estimated time until incarceration: Three days.
Estimated sentence: One year.
-----------------------

Within moments, several security personnel were making their way through the crowd towards the woman. Despite audible protests involving cliches such as "I know my rights" and "Fascist pigs", the woman was escorted away, along with two others who had been recorded and charged with Attempted Assault on an Arresting Officer.

"Crap."

The raven haired girl looked at the doorknob despairingly. It looked like someone squashed fudge. Alura had thought that with all her father's training, kryptonian strength would be easy control. After all, control was basically her father's middle name. The first clue that she was wrong was when she pulled the door off the car that had arrived to pick her up at the airport. Of course her father had a second car ready and a drive who made sure to open the door for her. A plan for every eventuality.

Alura sighed. She was going to need to relearn her entire life, not to mention maintain constant vigilance. The last thing she could afford to do was shake someone's hand in a moment of forgetfulness. She suddenly wished her mother were here, that was one person she didn't have to worry about hurting, but her mother was a busy woman. Conflicts, while few and far between these days, still occurred, and with her father retired it was usually her mother who was away 'working'.
That wasn't to say they didn't spend time together. They'd both gotten in some flight training before she had left and even had time to go out to eat. For potstickers, of course, a shared favourite of mother and daughter. Otherwise it had been just Alura and her father most of the time. Although he was occupied by different responsibilities, he had always made time for her. Typically that involved training of some kind or another, but other times it involved much less likely activities. Like when her father had taught her to sew.

"You're going to need to know this." He'd said to her as he'd patched up a shirt she'd torn during one of their many sparring sessions, "I always had Alfred around to do this for me, but when he was gone? Well..." He'd trailed off like he always tended to do whenever he spoke of his former guardian. And so the former Dark Knight had taught her to cook, clean and sew, not so she could make a good housewife one day, but so she could be more self-sufficient.

"Good morning, Oliver Queen Memorial..." The sudden PA announcement startled the young girl and her hands shot up to cover her ears. The electronic earplugs she wore were supposed to lessen the volume of all incoming sounds until she could adjust to her enhanced hearing, but they were still set to allow in more noise than she was used to. Once the announcement ended, Alura contemplated her options for accessing her dorm. She didn't want to call her father, she needed to rely on herself and he'd tell her as much. She could break down the door, but she didn't know if her roommate was in there and the lead-infused contacts lenses she wore prevented her from using her X-ray vision, which she still couldn't control anyway. So the only other option was to knock.

"Easy does it..." She whispered to herself as she tapped the door as lightly as possible.

CRACK

Alrua's shoulders slumped as she looked at her fist, buried in a newly made hole in the wood of the door.

"God dammit..."

Brother Eye set about accessing the school's PA system. Once again, the voice of the friendly, professional woman came across the speakers. "Araxie Annan, please report to the Dean's office immediately."

@Burning Kitty

Richard watched the chaos begin to unfold among the protesters as campus security moved in. He had no intention of staying around to watch the outcome. He doubted he's be able to catch it if he did anyway, these people were hand picked by the Batman himself, meaning they had more funding than the Gotham City Police Department, which was saying something considering Bruce Wayne funded them too. At the very least, campus security for a meta school was going to be equipped with 5-U-93-R pills, never mind whatever else they'd been provided to deal with speedsters. If what his mother had told him was right, Leonard "Captain Cold" Snart himself had designed the non-lethal cold guns used by most law enforcement agencies.

Dick shook his head as he walked past. These people were lucky they could even protest. In some corners of the world they were still cutting peoples hands off for petty theft. He shuddered. It was a mental image he'd spent years trying to forget. If the people protesting outside a school had put their time and energy into helping those who were actually downtrodden, he might of respected them, but these people were livestreaming the protest on three hundred dollar tablets, wearing jewelry as a fashion statement when that money could have fed some families for a month, acting like their lives were threatened.
He gritted his teeth. There was a difference between the downtrodden and the intolerant, and looking at the people gathered outside the school walls, those were not the kind of people who needed any help from someone like Richard. If anything, they were the ones who could stand to be a little more giving.

Looking at the school campus, Richard pondered for a moment. His mother had always spoken rather highly of Bruce Wayne. The billionaire who actually went out into the streets of Gotham and fought for the oppressed and fearful. But, as his mother was also quick to point out, a man too ready to die a martyr.
It was this man's school his mother wanted him to attend, for what reason he didn't know. She had made it sound like it had been to help him learn how to better control and understand his abilities, but that was obviously untrue. He'd had eleven years to adjust and he'd be trained by his mother, what more could anyone teach him? Did she expect him to become the next Robin or something? The Batman's sidekicks didn't have a stellar record when it came to sanity or longevity.

But those were her conditions if she were answer any of his questions regarding his father, a trait he had comes to expect from his mother, a "You do this for me and I'll do something for you" mentality that he had similarly adopted in many ways. He started to make his way farther into the school when a feminine figure caught his eye. She was similarly making her way past the crowd and into the school, her light-coloured hair catching the breeze. She had a decidedly athletic figure and piercing blue eyes.

"Well then," Richard said to no one but himself, "Maybe this school thing isn't so bad after all." Jogging to catch up to the girl he fell in step alongside her.

"Hey, there." He said, a bright smile adorning his face. If there was one thing his mother had trained him especially well in, it was charm. "You're a student? I don't suppose you'd be able to help me find my way, it's my first day."

Jenny heard the announcement over the intercom calling an assembly and as she had been taught she set to responding to the reasonable request of authority knowing that it would grant her the opportunity to survey her peers in a general manner. She could watch their body language, observe their energy profiles, scan them for implants and devices.
So it was that the petite alien flew through her dorm room's door into the hall perhaps violating some ordinance regarding speed but obviously disconnected to it as she hummed one of the latest metal anthems. The doors exiting the girl’s dorms opened moments before she flew through them and out into the open air where she allowed herself a giddy moment of celebration popping up about 200 feet spotting the assembly hall and rolling over to dive towards the entrance.

She timed her landing between clusters of other students only then remembering that she might need to come in contact with the earth so biting her lip she touches down feeling the tingle of power flowing her as she made physical contact with the planet’s energy sphere.
She had to walk on tiptoe so that she could stand the tickling energy as she headed into the building.

Araxie heard her name being called to the Dean's office. "Just great the billionaire play boy cape fool who created the Regime wants to see me." She decided he could wait, tyrant creators don't get respect her respect even if they did stop the tyrant they created, too little too late and all that. She ran around the school getting the lay of the land, memorizing the floor plans. She took a moment in the garden to admire the beauty. "Does have good taste. Reminds me of the park mama used to take me to as a child."

She eventually ran to the dean's office. She set down in one of the seat's across from his desk and put her feat on his desk. "Sup? You wanted to see me." She was intentionally challenging his authority by overtly being disrespectful.

Aurtha walked aimlessly through the crowd, lost in thought and replaying the fresh memory of parting ways from her family. She stops to take in more of the scenery and looks past all the students that are making their way through campus. Aurtha opens the folder, looking through the papers and skimming through all the text that she had no motivation to read through. She finally came across a map that has a detailed layout of everything. She matches important buildings on the map to the ones in person, figuring out her position in association with the map before being distracted by the livelihood of the campus.

Aurtha forms a soft smile as she gazes at the few flying figures in the sky, turning to other people on campus that reveal hints of their power through visual manipulations. Excitement begins to form in her body from being among other meta-humans, as she begins to wonder if her identity was obvious.

A boy that matched her in height and stature subtly caught up to her and mimicked her pace as his contagious smile forced her to reform her soft expression from earlier. "Hey, there. You're a student? I don't suppose you'd be able to help me find my way, it's my first day."

"Um," Aurtha paused, her mild social awkwardness resurfaces from speaking to her first fellow meta-human. "It's my first day, too. I don't even know where I'm going," she replies with a shrug, stopping in her tracks in hopes to engage a conversation.

There's a short moment of silence as she eyes his broad shoulders and chiseled jawline, before setting her stare back to his brown eyes. Noticing the silence, she brings up a topic to hopefully befriend the individual,"I've never been around so many people with such different powers! It's amazing, don't you agree?".

Aurtha shrugs once more,"I just hope I'm up to par with everyone else. I don't even know what to expect here."

Vernon shook his head. His power ring ceased its warm green sputter, and he walked inside of the school. WHen he finally got inside, there were maps everywhere, it seemed. Did Batman think his students were senile or was the Bat finally beginning to mirror the poor vision of his namesake? If the latter, it was a true shame; it made Vernon realize that even the finest mortals soon succumb to time's advance. Such a revelation filled him with awe and wonder, he foresaw the day he would give up his ring in old age or in death--he was hopeful it wouldn't come about by way of mortus--yet he also saw the day where he could give up the worry that came with being a hero. Yes, the day when one has reached the twilight of life and has the honor of raising grandchildren in the company of his beleaguered wife and progeny who would probably hate him. A good life it would be, indeed.

Vernon located where the assembly would take place and he headed in the appropriate direction. He kept interaction with the other mass of students to a minimum, and retained a vigilant eye on his surroundings as he walked. After his 'altercation' with the protester, he had enough interaction for one day--if he could help it, that is. Things befall one regardless of his wishes. Mindful of such unlucky occurrences, Vernon attempted to stalwart his mind against this mysterious tide of potential unfortunate circumstance; he was, of course, playing a fool's game--and he never was good at games.

He made his way to the assembly, and then realized he was woefully early. He also realized he was more woeful than early, he hated being early; being early always meant he had guessed wrong. If there was one thing Vernon hated above most else, it was making the wrong guess about things he could control. In his case, it often meant someone else made the right guess and had the advantage. A Lantern should never lose his advantage, because without advantage, Vernon thoought, one had no leverage--and without leverage, one had to guess even more, and making the wrong guess meant a lapse in judgement, which gave gave way to the situation having control over him; a lack of control made it easier for fear to take hold. Lanterns don't fear. That's what he was taught, anyway. He hadn't had the time to test this philosophy. Vernon hoped he was never in a position where he had to do such a thing.

"I've been around a few metas in my time, but not so many who were closer to my age." Richard confessed. "I don't think you'll have to worry about being on par though," he said, reassuringly, "I'm sure that there's at least one person here who could be your match." He resisted the urge to wink, instead admiring Aurtha as discreetly as he could. She was certainly attractive. A toned physique, tall, alluring eyes and an amazing-

"Anyway," he piped up suddenly. The thought that she might be a mind reader had just presented itself. "Maybe we could hang out, help each other in case we get lost?" A slime possibility. He'd studied the layout of the school long before he'd arrived, like he was planning a heist. "My name's Richard, by the way." He introduced himself, holding out his hand.

@Lionhearted

Bruce Wayne sat at his desk, patiently. It had been a few minutes since the PA had called Araxie Annan to his office and it was obvious she was taking her time. It had just given him more time to prepare. He'd already decided on his approach. Blunt and honest with a hint of insulting.

The moment she zoomed into his office, the containment protocols were activated. By the time Araxie's feet were on Bruce's desk, she would have felt the slight electric shock of the kinetic energy absorption field kicking in, slowing her bodily process to normal speeds. Behind them, the door automatically shut itself, locking with a click.
Silently, Bruce Wayne turned his computer monitor to face Araxie, upon which was displayed a list of names, obviously online monikers and handles, all of which Araxie would recognize or find familiar.

"My research department has taken to calling your blood 'V9-1118', or Velocity 9 Variant Eleven-Eighteen. All of the high, none of the side effects, they tell me." He looked at the girl levelly. He was used to this kind of behavior. He was the father of Damian Wayne, after all. "But it wasn't always side-effect free, was it, when you originally started dealing V9."

Bruce pressed a key. The majority of the names disappeared save for four.

"Your customers were arrested yesterday except for these four. No point in arresting dead buyers." He clicked a key again, an image of an elderly man appeared, laying in his bed as if her were asleep. "One had died of old age at twenty-four years old," Another click. This time a picture of woman laying unconscious on the floor filled the screen, "One took her own life in an attempt to escaped withdrawal-induced hallucinations," Click. Two images appeared, side-by-side. One was of a brick wall, the other of a bank vault door. Both were covered in dried blood with what looked like chunks of meat clinging to the surface. The brick wall had what looked like a crater in it. "And two tried to phase through walls at speeds reaching Mach One." He clicked once more. The images disappeared.

"They failed."

Bruce Wayne stood up and walked over to his window, keeping his back turned to Araxie Annan. She wanted a reaction from him, that much was obvious from her entrance. He supposed he should give her one.

"I run a school attended by the most powerful, hormonal, emotionally fragile people on the planet. Do you really think so little of me that you don't think I have a way to address every situation that may arise as a result?" He placed his hands behind his back, "I would think you were smarter then that, but your actions have proven otherwise." He paused for a moment, letting the jab hang in the air for what must have seemed like a eternity to the slowed down speedster.

"I don't expect you to know some everything. I don't expect you to know what happens when you inject someone who has a pacemaker with V9-1118 without their knowledge, how could you? You don't have a medical degree. How could you know that it would cause a man's heart rate to accelerate beyond what the pacemaker was programmed to handle, causing a heart attack?" Bruce turned and began to walk back to his desk, "I doubt you meant to hospitalize a father of three."

He sat back behind the desk.

"But I do expect a V9 manufacturer and dealer to know chemistry, like what happens when you inject V9-1118 into an unsuspecting woman with diabetes. That it would cause her metabolism to accelerate in such a way that she would become hypoglycemic within minutes and slip into a diabetes coma by the time emergency services arrived, hospitalizing a mother of two." A cold expression crossed Bruce Wayne's face. He glared at Araxie, unflinching.

"Normally, I would have had you arrested for Manufacturing and Distributing a Class-1 Inducement Substance, to say the least, but I was asked to give you a chance. And I did. And then on your first day, you do this." Bruce's eyes narrowed. "I've been told both of the people you hospitalized have a 40% chance of recovery. The mother has the lowest chance." His eyes were burning holes into the young speedster, "That's why I will be making sure they receive the best care on the planet, increasing their chances to 65%. It is also why you will be covering their medical expenses. Every last cent. And why, if they die, I will not only have you charged with Manufacturing and Distributing a Class-1 Inducement Substance, but also Negligent Homicide. I will have you placed in Arkham. Much like here, they have facilities designed to contain speedsters. You will be placed in a Zero-G cell where the temperature does not exceed thirty-degrees Fahrenheit. The only time you will feel a solid surface is after the daily blood transfusions you will undergo to remove any V9-1118 from your bloodstream." Suddenly, Bruce Wayne clicked another button. "That is, if I ever get the chance."

A twitter video appeared on the monitor, it was of a man being loaded into the back of an ambulance while a tearful woman followed.

"Look at how these metas treat peaceful protesters!" A male voice spoke from behind the camera, "Poisoning us and trying to turn us against each other just because they're scared of our voice! Never let anyone tell you the Regime is dead, look at what they do to anyone who dares speak up against their New World Order! Red Hood! Red Hood! Red Hood!"

The chanting continued until the video ended abruptly, with the only text accompanying the tweet being a single hashtag reading #redhood and a counter showing that the video had been shared forty-nine times in the last ten minutes.

The screen went black and Bruce Wayne was again glaring at Araxie. "It is my job to protect my students. Obviously, if anyone tries to come after you, I will do everything in my power to make sure you are safe. No matter how stupid I think you are. But if you deal illicit substances in my school, you will be charged and expelled. If you drug someone without their knowledge or consent, you will be charged and expelled. If you commit any crimes while enrolled here, you will be charged and expelled. In fact, your goal for this semester is not to pass you classes, but to remain enrolled, because there is only so much I can do to ensure your safety once you leave these grounds."

Behind Araxie, the door unlocked and swung open.

"You're dismissed, Miss Annan. Assembly is in five minutes. You will be on time."

"You talk about my crimes what about yours? You are guilty of murder. You may not have pulled the metaphorical trigger yourself but you are just as guilty. You know what that sick freak Joker could do but you did absolutely nothing but slap a metaphorical bandaid on a metaphorical gaping would that could never be closed, a bandaid that had little to no glue on it. Sure the first time you threw it in Arkham, you might have no idea it would escape. After that you should have done something more permanent, didn't have to kill it, but you could have stopped it from ever killing again. You are just as guilty as it for every murder it committed. You are a mass murderer. I didn't come here to be lectured by a mass murderer. As for those bigots, I was told this school would be safe place to learn, bigots you fucking Capes are to afraid to hurt could burn this fucking place down and you would do little to nothing about it. I should know my own aunt was a Meta, had the power to be invisible, she just wanted to lead a normal life, not be some damn Cape. One of you damn Capes tried to talk them down instead of actually doing something to save her life. I'm sure you know what happened because you are the God Damn Batman they threw molotovs she burned to death. So excuse me if I don't give a damn about those fucking scumbags. As for chemistry I do know my chemistry, those 'victims' of mine that I sold to they knew full well the side effects and I made sure to let those would be robbers know they couldn't phase through solid material. Not my fault if they don't listen or are to stupid to listen. As for paying back the medical bills they come after my parents own bills. They are the reason I started dealing I needed cash and lot of it. Morons are a good source if you provide them with a product they need/want. As for removing the V9 from my blood, I don't have blood I have V9 pumping through my veins only way to prevent manufacturing it is to kill me. You are good at that, at least letting others do it for you."

She wanted so bad to take the batarang shaped letter opener or batarang on his desk and get justice, but she chose to restrain herself. "Also since I can't deal how do you propose I earn the cash?" She was about to leave intentionally without an answer. "You mentioned being prepared, your famous for being prepared everyone knows the Batman is prepared for everything. Well that is a lie, you weren't prepared for the Regime. You weren't prepared to actually do something about the Joker to prevent the Last Laughter or whatever pathetic name they are calling the nuking of Metropolis. In fact you are the least prpared, your reputation is pathetic. How you earned is mind boggling. As for staying enrolled I am here to learn two things, then you won't see me again." She left out the fact that she planned to go back in time and change the past. She was hoping that these fucking powers would be gone as a result. She was also keeping track of lottery numbers so that she or her parents could win the lottery and she would never have to deal with the trash that bought her V9. If everything went according to plan this school may never even exist because she was going to do what the God damned Batman couldn't do.

As for being to the assembly on time, she waited to the last possible second to enter.

"Sure!" Aurtha replied hastily to his suggestion, following with a nervous chuckle.

"My name's Richard, by the way," he explained, extending a welcoming hand for a handshake.

"Oh, um," Aurtha awkwardly maneuvers her violin and folder into one hand in order to free her hand to accept his handshake,"Aurtha."

"Anyway," she paused,"I was just wandering aimlessly, trying to map out the area to get comfortable with everything." Aurtha couldn't help but feel the butterflies in her stomach that still lingered since she stepped into the premises. "Being around everyone just makes me a little nervous," Aurtha paused again, "I think I already said that," she follows with, again, a nervous chuckle. "But, I was going to just drop this off," Aurtha raised her violin and almost lost her hold on it, which caused her hands to shift through the bulky case and folder awkwardly, spilling the papers in the folder on the ground.

"Damn it," she said under her breath as she started to pick up her papers and sloppily stuffed them back into her folder. Aurtha stood up abruptly, giving a fake and rather embarrassed smile,"Okay! I should probably get going."

Aurtha begins to speed off while exclaiming,"I'll see you at the assembly!". As soon as she turned the corner and left his line of sight, she took a deep breath and mumbled to herself,"I suck..."

@Goliah

---

Aurtha made her way back to her dorm, viewing all the new items that were neatly unpacked on her roommate's half of the room. She took a moment to glance at everything,"I can't believe I missed her. It took me awhile to unpack all my belongings and I didn't even finish."

Aurtha stows her violin beneath her bed, taking a seat to take a deep breath before her attention is turned to the beautifully carved, wooden picture frame that contained a photograph of her and her family. She picked it up, forming a big smile on her face and letting out a small laugh as she reminisces of the moment the picture was taken: Aurtha, covered in flour from trying to make her failure of a pie, her mother came over to help her in distress from the mess, her aunt laughing at the scene, and her cousin being introduced to the selfie stick so she was taking endless amounts of photos. In the photo, Aurtha stood with an agitated posture and a half-smirk for the sake of the photo, while her aunt was letting out a bold laugh, and her mother and cousin just had big smiles.

Aurtha's nostalgic moment is interrupted by the PA system notifying everyone of the assembly: "Good morning, Oliver Queen Memorial. All students are required to attend an inaugural school assembly, which will take place on the basketball courts located within the school gym. This assembly will outline school policy as well as mark the beginning of Day One orientation. Assembly will commence in 30 minutes."

Aurtha let out a sigh as she placed the photo back on her nightstand, grabbing her folder, but stopping to look in the mirror before leaving. She looked herself up and down, her plain, casual t-shirt still had wrinkles on it and looked a tad bit small for her torso, revealing the old, denim material of her shorts that went down to her mid-thigh(just barely school appropriate). She fixed her white, beaten up converse to get her feet to fit more comfortably, ignoring the brand new pair that her mother bought her for the sake of looking more presentable for school. Without a care of her attire, she made awkward poses and reactions in the mirror in an attempt to look totally casual, yet they all weren't up to par with her idea of 'normal'.

"Whatever," she muttered as she head to the school gym.

Jenny practically pranced into the building as she tried to get used to the tingle each step sent through her body as she made contact directly with the earth’s magnetic generator which while powerful lacked sentience and was her’s to command or draw from as she wished. This was why she normally floated just inches off the ground; the flood of power she felt by contact was staggering as the local magnetosphere focused its attention on her unasked. So it was on tiptoe that she made her way inside then eased down on her seat was if she were sinking into very hot water.
She knew she needed to begin getting used to using the world in the same physical way humans did but she disliked it because direct contact with the earth limited her senses because of how powerful the field was when she was in contact like seeing in bright sunlight on snow, trouble was they didn’t make sunglasses for it.
Once settled she exhaled deeply sinking into the chair and relaxing as she wrapped herself in overlapping fields of magnetic energy and building a standing charge that she can exploit for any of her needs but it has one obvious effect when it causes her hair to stand out straight from her head till she noticed and tweaked her polarity.

Bruce largely ignored the outburst, it was nothing he hadn't already heard before from people who thought they could do better. Typically they either picketed outside or complained on the internet. Just another opinionated college student who only heard what they wanted to hear.

"Well then, I suppose if the Red Hood seeks you out to make you answer for your actions with your life, you'll accept responsibility as the drug dealer you are, won't you? After all, you had your chance, no point in slapping a metaphorical bandaid on you and sending you to jail, you'll re-offend sooner or later. I know for a fact he has a special hatred for people who hurt women, especially with drugs. No more half measures, correct?"

Watching Araxie eye his letter opener, he intentionally turned his back to the girl.

"As for your debt, I suggest you do what the rest of the majority of the world does and get a job. Amazon pays speedsters well as part of their same-hour delivery service. But if you want to choose the lazy route that carries the highest body count and pretend that you're the victim while standing over the corpses, then keep dealing. Don't be surprised when you end up dead in Arkham though." Bruce let the comment set in before adding another jab, "As for 'murderer', from where I stand potentially killing children's parents as part of your own bigoted prank doesn't make you the wronged party. And you're as culpable in the deaths of your customers as an arms dealer supplying a warlord. You're destroying families for a quick buck because you're too lazy to actually work."

Bruce then walked towards the door, leaving the girl in office and making his way to the gym, "As for what you want to learn, I can make a reasonable guess at what a speedster drug dealer with dead & dying relatives and an inability to take responsibility for her own actions would want to learn. I will be making sure that Mr. Allen talks to you in the immediate future."

With that, Bruce Wayne had left the room.

Outside the main faculty building, Bruce Wayne met Barbara Gordon as she also made her way to the gym. "Everything alright, Bruce?"

The retired heroe's face was expressionless, "Speedster troubles. Make sure Barry talks to her." Barbara nodded. She'd been updated on the situation involving the protesters. "And get me information on her parents."

@Burning Kitty

The gym was buzzing, literally in some ways, with the sounds of the gathered student body. All told, nearly two hundred students were attending the school. Many were hovering or flying around above the heads of others, while the more earth-bound students were sat in the chairs that had been set out. The speakers crackled as the microphone was turned on and Barbara Gordon made her way onto a hard-light construct that was generated to provide a stage with which to stand upon. Almost immediately, the returning students took their seats, descending from above, teleporting in, or just finding their way with old friends. Soon the gym was quiet save for a few mutters and laughs.

"Good morning, students."

"Good mooorning Ms. Gordon." came a response from somewhere within the crowd followed by a few stiffled giggles.

"Thank you, Mr. Marston." Replied the former Batwoman, not paying the joke much mind. "I'm certain you're all eager to get unpacked and settled in, so we will be keeping this brief. Dorm room allocations will be posted on the bulletin boards withing the dormitories. The boys dorms will have male listings, the girls dorms the female listings. There will be no co-ed habitation." That got a few snickers, "For those of you who shapeshift and can change your biological sex, you will be assigned the dorms that best align with the gender you listed on your enrollment forms. Any special considerations regarding certain students have already been taken into consideration, but if you have questions, students are to direct them to my office."

The next five minutes included information on where to go to enroll in elective classes, times for breakfast, lunch and dinner, curfew times as well as where to find dorm RA's.

"Now then," Ms. Gordon concluded, "Before you're dismissed, a final word from the Dean."

A hush fell across the returning students, even those who had been laughing and joking earlier. Bruce Wayne made his way to the stage, still an imposing figure for his age. Everything about him demanded seriousness. He stood, as he tended to these days, with his hands held behind his back.

"You all know me." His voice boomed through the gym. This was a man accustomed to public speaking, "By name, by reputation. You all have your own thoughts and opinions about me. Let me make one thing perfectly clear; I don't care. I have done this long enough that I am thoroughly unconcerned with what you think of me as a person, as a Dean and as a hero." He surveyed the gathered students, "I don't care if you think I'm a hero, a villain, an idol or a fool. What I do care about is that while you attend this school, you obey the rules and outlines set out for you.

He let the silence hang in the air for a moment. He loved doing that, Barbara thought.

"No doubt you are aware of the protesters outside the school. You are to leave them alone. They are looking for a reaction, do not give them one, they don't need more reasons to dislike you. Students found provoking protesters will be suspended or expelled depending on severity." The older, returning students shuffled uncomfortably. They knew it wasn't a bluff. "Likewise, violence against your fellow students in not acceptable, neither is destruction of property. If I find that you have intentionally harmed a student or damaged property, especially using any sort of abilities, meta-human or magical, you will be suspended or expelled. You are here to learn restraint, control and responsibility, not instigate psionic schoolyard brawls." Bruce paused once more. "I do not expect you to respect me, I do not expect you to respect your teachers. It is their duty to earn that from you. But I do expect you to respect your fellow students and the people around you."

With that, Bruce Wayne walked unceremoniously off the stage. An awkward clap came from somewhere within the gathered crowd of students before dying off as quickly as it had started. Barbara Gordon returned to the stage.

"Thank you student's. You are dismissed."

Jenny listened to the speeches trying not to fidget as she kept switching polarity so that she didn’t have to fight off the earth’s magnetic field like some pushy lover so when the Dean finished speaking and dismissed them she popped up like a jack in the box to take her place amongst the other flyers.

Little by little she would conquer this world’s magnetosphere and become its absolute Mistress its heartbeat matching her own but fine tuning a planet took time. Pivoting in the air she swept her gaze over the crowd. It wasn’t large like many would imagine her peers if they were human very rare and aliens such as herself even rarer.

She subjected everyone nearby to a free MRI and energy scan but because her scan was passive and dependant on ambient magnetic fields that had already passed through the targets. She knew if they had electronics or Implants, how many blades they hid on their persons, or other weapons. Batteries were scanned and their frequencies added to an attack matrix so that she could make them release their stored energy as an incendiary or explosive. Blades were weighed and categorized then added to a swirling pattern of metal flying around her in high speed orbits that could at her whim shoot one blade at a target or release the mass in a flood attack.

This was not how Jenny wanted to think of her peers; Potential Enemies so she sped outside in a blur almost breaking the sound barrier not halting till she was 600 meters above the school. It looked as it had on the Satmaps of the Agency and different because this image had life moving through it.

Why am I up here? she said in an admonishing tone.

She had agreed to come here in the hopes of finding someone or one’s to form a peer group with. She was more surprised than her Mentor/Mom that she felt gregarious just like a local and needed something she wasn’t getting from the Agency; her understanding was that she needed friends…...no that wasn’t right…….True…..she needed a True Friend and if she were lucky more than one.

That thought in mind Jenny spotted the area where her peers were congregating and flew down and hovered curiously at the edge of the social byplay she’d come here to learn.

Aurtha made her way through the crowd of students piling into the basketball courts of the gym, watching as they all talked amongst each other, or instead, not speaking at all. It was very apparent to see who was an upperclassmen and who is new to the school based on how comfortable they were around each other and how confidently they walk the floors. Aurtha made her way to a seat that was away from the cliques of students, but even the seats around her began to fill with other students. The diversity of the students was very distinct, but even the common cliques of a regular high school seemed to be evident to Aurtha. She was even asked to move over a seat to fit another member of a clique of pretty, prissy, cake-faced makeup wearing girls. Acceptingly, she then attempted at being involved in conversations with them, but became dismissed easily with anything she said.

Surrendering to her continuous failure of making friends, she sat back in her chair, crossed her legs, and waited for the assembly to begin. Once Ms. Gordon came to the stage and began speaking, her interest was peaked, but it became more of a tentative interest once the majority of the content of her speech was reinforcing rules that Aurtha was already aware of or didn't care to understand fully since she assumed she would never go against them.

Once the dean was welcomed to the stage, Aurtha's attention became intrigued once more, lifting her head and gazing more conscientiously to further examine Bruce Wayne's appearance thoroughly. A chill crawled up the skin of her folded arms as his voice boomed in the large room. It was discernible to Aurtha that the Dean had high respects from the student body due to their strict attention they gave him, or perhaps it was that he put fear in their eyes -- Nonetheless, she felt it similarly. Judging from his word selection and his serious, nonchalant image, Aurtha felt the authority he possessed over them, though the majority of the feeling stemmed from previous reasons: that he was revered for his heroic accomplishments, his incredible wealth, his intelligence and knowledge, etc. Aurtha listened to his message to the students carefully before being dismissed by Ms. Gordon.

Aurtha proceeded back to her dorm to drop her folder off, seeming to have continuous reminders of the Dean's first appearance. She had never seen him in person before this, but she, among many, was in awe of his power. In no way did Aurtha ever predict, nor want, to have a relatable future to the Batman, but the thought has now presented itself from an unusual, faint desire of such a renowned reverence that he retains. She never thought her future through -- not enough to have any big ambitions.

Aurtha brushed off his lingering presence.

Araxie paid little to the assembly, even less when Bandaid Man came on the stage. When the blowhards were finished blathering on and on. She raced out of there to the dorm to find her room and roommate assignment. She found it, she was not pleased to find her original roommate assignment scratched out and Bandaid Man's daughter replaced.

"That fucker, using his daughter to spy on me. Fine I can play that game too. A little false information here and a little false information there, have that fucker chasing wild geese."

She raced to her room, she ran an erasure program that deleted and over wrote the data a thousand times over, it would take a century to recover trace information. She began to add all kinds of fake data and intentionally left them unlocked and out in the open.
