As noted, the internet is currently limited, and I guess we need to work @The Spectre's character in. I wanted to throw it open to suggestion since I want to get him started sooner than later. Thoughts?

Well, I was thinking since Nari's the one with the tech access, maybe she finds the story by digging through police scanners and pitches it to the guys by suggesting Wyatt might have valuable information and it would be in their best interest to get to him before the Soviets do?

Sounds good. She can use his information to carve backdoor access for the guerrillas. Subtle but big victory.

Theory of curiosity, tech is still approximately the same here a story it was in IRL right? Just more heavily monitored and such.

Yes, we certainly are.

Yes, it is. The Soviets are trying to wrestle with information control after the fact of the internet. Huge plot piece.

Also, as a second thought, what sort of rifles do you think the guerrillas should have in stock? I want to go with something that plausibly would be brought through the black market channels they'd been using. Of course, those black market channels may well include military or police supplies.

Thoughts? I was going with the M16A2, but I thought it might be nice to have some feedback.

Otherwise, next IC post is written!

When I deployed to Bosnia in 2001, I noticed the 2nd Battalion 22nd Infantry, 10th Infantry Division (Mountain) were all equipped with the M4 Carbine while all the US Army National Guard units were equipped with M16A2 rifles. But that was 16 years ago and I know the intent was to equip the National Guard units with M4 carbines as well. So I did some research.

I researched this because I would like to know the source of these weapons our characters would acquire on the black market. Will the weapons come from a civilian source (AR-15)? US Military source (M4)? or Soviet source (AK-47)?

If the source is civilian then there is a wide variety of options out there. I merely put the AR15 at the top of the list simply because it is the most common military styled rifle on the market today. But alas, all of these weapons would be semi-automatic only. It would be a rare find to have a full automatic weapon in the civilian sector. Not impossible, just rare.

If the source is the Vermont Army National Guard, either dead or captured, as the Soviets have taken over Vermont then the principal weapon would be the M4 Carbine. But this list would also include Mk-14 Assault Rifles, M203 Grenade Launchers, M9 Pistols, M240B Machine Guns, M2 .50 Caliber Machine Guns and Mk-19 40mm Automatic Grenade Launchers.

This is a listing of VTARNG units:

If the source is from US military that have already retreated west of the Mississippi River, then the possibility of the M16A2 being dropped into guerrilla units as there is a surplus of these rifles on the market.

If the source is Soviet, then the opportunity to acquire Soviet built rifles like the AK-47 are quite possible. The nice thing about using Soviet built weapons is that the guerrillas can use Soviet ammunition which is probably in much more abundant supply, behind the lines.

NOTE: The lined out units in the hider depicting VTARNG units are located out of state and not present in our little sandbox.

@HeySeuss Well, if this world's gun market is like ours, then I would imagine that variants of the AR-15/M-16/M-4 would be common. An assortment of minor rifles of various calibers would also be likely just from people's own supplies. As time went on I would expect to see more Soviet issue guns, or at least guns that took soviet calibers.

So my feeling is that there's a huge demand for all this stuff from military and civilian sources. Soviet sources are not yet in play as much as the Soviets and Warsaw Pact are focusing on securing Boston and certain vital coastal bases for supply purposes.

Preppers/survivalists and so forth probably bought up a lot of the civilian stock to sell/trade. But this guerrilla unit has Joe, who hooked them up with an illicit supply of pharmaceuticals, which means that they -do- have something worth bartering to other guerrilla units to make sure they are well supplied.

So they probably have an abundance of supply due to the fact that that guns and accessories are way easier to get than quality pharmaceuticals. My reckoning is that this particular cell is front of the line for picking up gear and being able to pay for it. Smart hoarders are going to know that they need the drugs and aren't going to be as savvy about establishing that supply line, and criminal elements already are dug in on it.

tl;dr: It means that thanks to shady dealings with Joe, the unit has access to the most valuable currency on the black market right now. So the unit probably has some M4's and maybe some other stuff.

tl;dr: It meant that the Giguere Brothers probably had to do a lot of the face duty in dealing the morphine, dilaudid and so forth out to the sort of back-hills militia guys that probably are hoarding all the guns and ammo.

@HeySeuss I have more than a few variations of SFC Brian Park, originally of Boston, Massachusetts who I can alter just slightly to put into this RP. LOL

Deleted SFC Brian Park

Or this guy from Rhode Island, could use some rewriting...

It's up to you, but I can't see such a character being embedded with such a small cell. Providing support, however? Absolutely.

No, not embedded, strictly as NPCs.

MSG Morse is an NPC to be used as one of the SF NCOs to be dropped into the Green Mountains to check up on our cell and help us if needed.

I changed SFC Park's primary weapon from an HK416 to an FN SCAR-L since according to HeySeuss' timeline in this RP, Heckler & Koch are now producing firearms for the Warsaw Pact rather than NATO.
