@Undine, so I can't have a character rediscovering a family heritage of sandbending their parents may have hidden from them and they discovered due to being more of an Aang than a Toph? That's what I mean when I say "talented". Naturally predisposed towards a particular application of earthbending. It's fairly unbelievable that every earthbender is good at all the same things. They may all have the same range of abilities, but personality (dropping the bloodline) may make the character suited to sandbending.

Say they decided to try sandbending after class in the earthbender academy, after hearing or reading about it from somebody or in a book. They discover that's easier for them than the earthbending they're being taught. Is that impossible in this RPG?

I'm smelling an awful lot of "no" coming off this RPG. Perhaps I'd be better suited to Omashu, where King Bumi lets people "open their mind to the possibilities". I present the quote I was given by @McHaggis:

It is implied that most, if not all, earthbenders are capable of bending sand, but because of the loose shifty nature of sand it is not an easy transition for the average earthbender. The sandbenders of the desert are especially proficient with it due to their particular habitat.

It's not outside the realm of possibility an earthbender not of from the desert may turn out to have some ability in the fine control of sand over the brute force control of rock. But to save the GM and Co-GM the trouble, and since I see no reason my concept is being disallowed after several steps back, I'll say that I'm most likely out of this RPG.

Let me know if there's anything wrong with the CS~! Also, I didn't give her a last name because I was doing some research on some of the surnames that were in A:TLA, and it was said that only those of high rank would possess a surname for the sake of passing down some sort of 'title'.

I also kind of put two skill proficiencies in one, let me know if you would like me to separate those into their own skill slots. I also left it rather short, let me know if you would like me to elaborate more on them.

Mei is accepted. A very believable balance of youthful naivety and hard-working warrior woman, and I also like the canonical inclusion of Kyoshi Island being more apolitical (before the invasion) - I love it :) You can go ahead and pop her in the tab. (Though as a head's up - you've still got the guiding, "At least three of each. Consider more than just likes 'good things' and dislikes 'bad things'." in the Likes & Dislikes section. Might wanna remove that.)

PS - No surnames is fine! I imagine very few characters will have them. Potentially only the firebending nobility dude, if he so chooses. Titles like 'of the Southern Water Tribe' would also count, I think, but they are completely not mandatory to put in. I also think Kyoshi Warrior weapon skills are fairly self-explanatory - thanks for putting them in separate sections :>

I gotta now add the state of Kyoshi Island to the OOC. Will get it done at the weekend and probably tag you in it just to make sure everything's kosher.

Awesome! I'm glad you like her! I fixed that bit and moved her to the Character Tab! I look forward to the Kyoshi Island OOC tab~!

It's so difficult to find Avatar-style pics. I'm probably not looking in the right place, though. Any recommended links? I found myself one, maybe two, pics I quite like but having more selection would be great.

I may go for Earth #1 since it fits, at least I think, the personality that I want for Fumiko. Ah, if only the male Sokka fanart could pass as female, it would be better.

Just to clarify though, the picture has to belong to the Avatar world but not necessarily have to be in the art style of ATLA and/or LoK right? Coz the latter's what I'm doing which is mostly whats making this more difficult for me.

:v

Also, thanks for the many pics!

@McHaggis, I am as well. If the character discovering a family history of sandbending via bending is too much for this RPG, it's not one I'd like to join.

I don't think it's the discovery of a family history of sand bending that's the problem. I think it's the fact that you're trying to make your character become self-taught through a natural talent of sand bending. You compared your concept to the early stages of Katara, but even Katara was a novice until she received proper training. On the contrary, sand bending is like another form of earth bending, thus the concept of having a very slim ability to manipulate sand is applicable to all experienced earth benders(from my understanding). This concept brings me back to when they went to that underground library and Toph was annoyed that she could only faintly bend the sand and we all know that Toph is a hella good earth bender

In all honesty, I think you should just go with someone that originates from the Si Wong desert to allow for a sand bending upbringing. Or perhaps your character started as an earth bender but resided in the desert somehow and ended up needing to learn sand bending for the sake of survival. A simple change in the character history could fix everything.

Sorry to butt-in to this, I'm just trying to clarify. Unless I'm wrong as well then I'll edit this all out hehe.

@Lionhearted, I want a character who discovers an ability to sandbend that leads them to a sandbender heritage. Being from the desert undercuts the "my family lied to me" aspect. I could change something, but it's the only thing that I would like to have. Apparently it's too much for the GMs to give me one bit of leeway to build a really poor earthbender going on a character arc to find their true ability.

I know Toph was exceptional. But Player Characters in general are special. We have the head Fire Nation spy in Ba Sing Se and a Kyoshi Warrior in the game. Neither of them are mundane. They're exceptional, likely competent individuals. I've even proposed that my character be absolutely horrible at earthbending in general, just so I can have them discover and learn and grow on the direction of sandbending.

We're talking about a complete klutz learning one narrow avenue of bending that they're actually half-decent in, then going to learn from the masters despite their parents' wishes. This is apparently too much for the RPG, and the GMs, to accept.

... Okay, so I was writing up the bio for Fumiko and a flash of genius idea hit me. What if Fumiko is the ancestor of that cabbage guy? Maybe not the direct descendant, considering she doesn't really want to be a farmer forever (maybe she'll make a cabbage enterprise and her cabbages would be the best cabbages and have a monopoly of them). I'm actually serious about this premise, no matter how ridiculous that sounds. And if it's weird, that's because I am tired but I feel it important enough to ask.

If not, that's okay, too. I have questions, though: what lessons are there in the University? Nevermind I looked it up and Ba Sing Se University have its wiki: http://avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Ba_Sing_Se_University. I'll have her learn about mathematics for accounting and science to have the best cabbages.

Edit: Actually, a legit question this time and I have no idea if this is in the wiki. If it is, I apologize for asking (I actually have not finished ATLA (heresy, I know) and only LoK so my knowledge isn't at tip-top shape) but are farms outside of Ba Sing Se or in it? I don't think it's in it, since it is an enclosed city so would that mean Fumiko's family would have to get out of the city and do the farming then haul it back in to sell the goods? Or would Fumiko's family not own a farm (they live in the Lower Ring) since those in the Middle Ring / Upper Ring would be rich enough to hold one and her family would only be hired help?

Honestly, I totally feel like you can take this to a very serious level. Your character could start lower ring and then maybe your character moves up the ranks throughout the roleplay and ends up owning the business and then all of a sudden BOOM -- We have our rich, money tree friend that will help us all financially by selling cabbages.

Expressing interest in either a fire nation deserter or the amateur Dai Li agent.

In regards to the latter, did you want them to be completely uninitiated at the start of the roleplay? Or just a fresh recruit?

Hmm. I'll have to think on it for a while. Not quite sure I have enough of an idea what kinds of people the Dai Li seek out for their recruits.
