ryu's deceptively dark chestnut hair frames his slim, youthful face, reaching down to just below the middle of his ear. his lighter brown eyes are brought out by his skin tone - an overall canvas of light peach, with swirls of yellow undertones mixed in; not enough for his skin tone to be overly yellow, but enough to faithfully portray his ethnicity. said skin tone also brings out his rouge lips, which act as a center between his smooth, glass-like jawline and his long, thin nose. his somewhat bushy eyebrows are almost constantly raised in an expression of intrigue or confusion, or sometimes even as an attempt to look more appealing. though, he's often considered naturally handsome by korean standards, but that often goes out of the window when he tries to crack a lame joke in his regular monotone (read: "i want to die but it's only ironic) voice.

his clothing style could be considered rather formal for a party-goer like him. he almost exclusively wears short sleeve button-ups or polo shirts, not owning a single t-shirt in his home. couple these with belted black slacks and a beloved leather jacket, and ryu dangerously flirts with the line between casual and formal. the closest to casual wear you'd find in his wardrobe are three plain white vests, which he usually wears when he's lounging around the house. however, besides these somewhat peculiar clothing choices, there is not much else notable about ryu's appearance. he has no scars or significant marks, his skin is constantly clear, and he has yet to grow facial hair. if anything, ryu could be considered too average.

PSYCHOLOGY

"what? i'm like any other teenager, dumbass."

MAIN GOAL ⫻ having no other idea of an end goal other than the standards his parents push on him, ryu isn't entirely sure of what he wants out of life.

PHILOSOPHY ⫻ ryu doesn't really fuss over life philosophies. he'll live life however he wants, be it in the moment one month, or anxiously anticipating the future the next. the only real philosophy he's ever had is not pushing your views and opinions onto other people; something his parents need to learn a little something from. just enjoy life, man.

SECRETS ⫻ ryu's biggest secret is the fact that he's an on-and-off drug dealer. while he only deals weed, as opposed to stronger, more life-threatening drugs, it's probably not a good idea to be so open about it with a cop for a dad. he also tends to be very hush hush about the fact he hides his frustration behind drinking and partying, which, in itself, he sees as pathetic.

DESIRES ⫻ outside of a year's supply of free booze, ryu just wants to find a path in life. he wants to finally have a clear idea of what to do in life, as opposed to wasting it all away at a bar or some high-profile party.

SEXUALITY ⫻ straight. miss him with that gay shit.

FEARS ⫻ ryu doesn't like to think that he has any fears, unless you think about it from some pseudo-philosophical standpoint. though, at the back of his mind, he always has a fear that he'll disappoint his parents, no matter how hard he tries to ignore it.

REPUTATION ⫻ keeping up with farmer hill's stigma towards the non-white, a majority of ryu's reputation is "that asian kid who parties instead of studying", even though he still (barely) gets decent enough grades to keep him going. to those that get to know him (or those he's dealt to), he's fairly liked, apart from a few occasions of obnoxious drunken behaviour. for the most part, he tries not to give people reasons to have problems with him.

PET PEEVES ⫻ ryu's biggest pet peeve is people who feel the need to get offended over every little thing. people need to lighten up and get over themselves. other than that, his laidback mindset means there's nothing much capable of annoying him.

QUIRKS ⫻ he cannot keep the fuck still. even if there's nothing playing, he'll always be subtly (or, in other times, not-so-subtly) dancing to some kind of music. be it in the form of tapping his foot, shaking and nodding his head or tapping on a nearby surface, he'll find a way to absentmindedly dance.

BACKSTORY

"we've all got something that went wrong in our past."

ryu sang-hoon was born and raised in a little korean american town in anaheim, california, to his tough but loving father and stay-at-home mother. his dad, officer hyung-joon, worked long shifts and was rarely seen home, leaving it up to his mother hyejin to care for the young boy. while life was boringly average (and averagely boring), young sang-hoon was too fascinated with his own imagination to care. he would often drift off or zone out in class, much too busy with astronauts and superheroes to worry about maths and science. if anything, he was just your regular kid, but his sinking grades were a little disappointing for his parents. regardless, they left him to his own devices, and he eventually grew out of his overactive imagination. ryu's grades slowly increased, though it was still a rare occurence to see him produce an a or a+.

life continued to be montonous for the most part, save a few school-funded trips where ryu would get wasted with his friends and tell nobody. his parents slowly started to push more responsibilities on him, discussing career paths and what he should do when he eventually left school, which in turn started to push him away from academics. he didn't start failing in his schoolwork per say, though he often only barely scraped through at an acceptable level. of course, his parents were disappointed, but after the first few discussions about his standards dropping, ryu eventually zoned out. unfortunately, for this assumed 'phase' of ryu's life, leaving him to his own devices did not pan out the way hyung-joon and hyejin wanted it to. he regressed further, often staying out for lte nights and turning up at 3am absolutely shitfaced. his parents tried their best to cope, but the now angsty teenager sang-hoon refused to even hear them out.

meanwhile, ryu was on a high - quite literally. after making a few friends at a bar one night, he discovered that one of the group grew his own weed, and immediately wanted to try some of the stuff. what was a one-time thing turned into taking regular puffs of weed. he didn't see it as a big deal, but his parents apparently thought otherwise when they found out he was smoking the stuff, taking away every last bag of it and keeping him on a strict curfew. naturally, ryu was pissed off, despite the fact his father was kind enough to not drag him into the station.

that same week, the teen's world came crashing down. he was on his way to the bar when he received a distressed call from his father - hyejin had been caught in a hit and run from a van. distraught, he rushed to the hospital, only to find that his mother had passed away during his journey there. frustration and anger overwhelmed him, creeping into his mind and swallowing up all of it. frustration over the fact that no matter how well he did in life, if he even managed to pull through and become successful, his mother would never see it. frustration that reminded him every day that he never got to say goodbye to his mother. he never got to right his wrongs, to apologise for being obnoxious and a huge dick to her. he didn't even know if she thought of him before she died.

drinking turned into a type of escapism, rather than something he did for fun. partying helped numb the pain for a little while, but it eventually wore off. nothing felt fun to him anymore. it all felt meaningless. meanwhile, hyung-joon could do nothing but watch helplessly as his son sank into a depression, becoming almost a completely different man. eventually, he decided a change of pace would be best for the both of them. a fresh start, somewhere far away from the town that had become full of bad memories. after doing some research online, the two of them made the move to farmer hill - another small town, this time practically in the middle of nowhere. ryu decided to sign up for grand ridge academy, the local college, as college was something his mother had insisted on many years before her passing. it still pained him to think of it, but living in a new place with no prior connection to her made it somewhat better.

eventually, as the months went by, it became easier and easier to cope. ryu started to see the fun side of partying and drinking. his hobbies sometimes veered towards the illegal side, since ryu found himself sometimes contacting his old friend to bring down some weed for him to deal, but he managed to keep it hidden from his father. eventually (read: a year and a half later), thinking of hyejin caused him no more pain, and he was back to his troublesome teenage self. of course, he still barely scraped by with his grades, but he was happy and that's all that mattered to him.

SKILLS & TALENTS

DANCING ⫻ since he does it so often, it's no surprise ryu is at least competent at dancing. even if you don't like his moves or the songs he dances to, you gotta admit, he busts said moves well. if only he could apply the same skills to dance dance revolution...
GAMING ⫻ spending most of his childhood playing videogames - more specifically, online shooters - ryu has moderate skill when wielding his mouse and keyboard. he's also good at beat-em-ups, stealth games and adventure games, but since he plays fps games so often, he's particularly more adept at them than any other game he plays. also, he's asian, so he's obviously automatically skilled in at least one esport game. fuck that bitch-ass candy crush, though.
DRINKING ⫻ ryu can hold his liquor pretty fucking well, so he counts it as a talent and nobody can tell him otherwise.

LIMITS ⫻ Dexter's laser beams are relatively close ranged, after around two-meters, the laser beams will lose power. The further they go, the less dangerous they get, to the point where, after ten meters, it becomes no more dangerous than a laser pointer. He also cannot pull light from nothing, but instead he has to absorb light into his being. He has an inner-light of sort that he draws power from, and he needs to feed it other light sources for it to work.

WEAKNESSES ⫻ While he can't suffer eye damage from his Abstraction, there's nothing preventing Dexter from being blinded by his own light. So, he can impair his vision as much as his enemies if he isn't careful. In addition, drawing light builds up heat where he fired the beam. To the point where he can give himself third degree burns.
