The had risen high into the sky one what was a typical day for many. It was the last day of school for many as summer break would soon begin, at least for a while nobody would have to worry. The current craze for many was battling, or exploring via the immensely popular Digi-Protocal app. However, for a select few things were about to change.

Congratulations! You, digidestined, have been selected to save the digital world!

The message appeared on screen with only a single button to press. “Okay”

Before you can continue you must go home. Once you connect to your home network you will receive a message with further instructions.

It seemed simple enough and was by no means out of the ordinary for the illustrious application. Special events happened like this every so often. Thus, it was no surprise that Olivia’s friends urged her to follow the prompt.

“We’ll hang out later!”
“I wonder what you’ll get.”
“Show us when the events over!”

She laughed it off, but went home anyway. She never won these things, but it was always fun to give it a try. So, she did. She ran in. Mom wasn’t home, probably out shopping or something. Dad was likely at work. She connected to their home network and went up to her room, throwing her bookbag down to the floor.

Wonderful! You’re here and you’re ready. The message was audio, a slight bit more special than the norm, though the voice was a tad distorted. Hold on tight to your digivice and remember everything you’ve learned playing the game. It’s gonna come in handy! With that, the voice cut off and the screen when black.

“What the…” Olivia shook her phone, tapped the screen, pressed the lock button, the volume buttons. “Oh no.” Mom and dad would kill her if she had broken her phone.

And so, as the worry began to set in she lift her hand to throw the phone on her bed. But then it began to glow. She gasped in relief, thanking the heavens for her luck until the flash enveloped the room and she found herself falling.

“What the hell is going on?!” She questioned before everything went black.

“Guys! Today’s the day!” Terriermon hopped about happily. They’d been preparing for their partners to come to the digital world for what seemed like all their lives. As the youngest of the bunch of digimon Terriermon was the most excited. He couldn’t say he was ready to fight, but he was ready to meet his tamers. Watching them through the trees of the TV Forest was as close as they’d gotten, but today they would finally meet.

“They’re here!” Terriermon followed the lights coming from the sky.

Laying on the ground of the village in which they had been raised, the small digimon ran, practically jumping the whole way.

On the ground was the group, unconscious, with their phones, now transformed into digivices laying on their open hands at their sides.

“Tabitha! Tabi! Wake up!” The small digimon spoke excitedly as he used his tiny hands to try and shake the girl awake, his oversized ears draped down at his sides.

Kate (Cassandra) D. Beckham

Brushing hair, painting fingernails, lipstick, flossing the piece of broccoli from between your teeth, heading downstairs into the basement where band mates waited, blue eye contacts, matching long black wigs and outfits. Grabbing her electric guitar, turning on her several studio quality cameras, and getting in front of two girls with the same same attire, behind a drum-set and a microphone. The green screen and recording equipment were already set up, Beginning to shred notes, drumming and cymbals clashing, singing, making her house tremble like an earthquake. Her mother casually sitting in the kitchen, reading the comic panels on the newspaper lying on the table, watching the coffee shaking in her cup, slightly sighing. Digital timer counting down, the smell of chocolate coming from the oven...
* * *

Her two friends finally exhausted all their adrenaline, one helped clean up everything and the other retrieved the beverages from the mini fridge. Slumped on large beanbag chairs, sipping from their lemon flavored water bottles, both playing the Digi-Protocal app on their cellphones. Looking at her focused on her computer editing the video non-stop for the past 10 minutes, while simultaneously tuning her other guitar, opening a full 1 liter bottle of diet-mountain sun and chugging over half of it down within a minute.

“That’s so unhealthy for you.” Her blonde ponytail friend uttered opening a bag of potato chips, taking a handful and stuffing it in her mouth. Her robin’s egg blue short hair friend, rolled her eyes. The three girls noticed the mother suddenly coming down the stairs with a large plastic container filled with chocolate chip cookies.

“I’m heading to work soon, I made cookies for pediatrics. It’s diabetic and gluten friendly. You ladies are free to have one and Cassandra I need you to come here.”

“I’m Kate, mom.” Cassandra said. Stopping everything she was doing, going over and grabbing a cookie.

“Oh? how peculiar, you’d think I’d remember my daughter’s name.” She teased back. Her blue haired friend enthusiastically getting up, grabbing one and taking a bite. While they all started following the mother up the stairs and through the hallways and up even more stairs.

“Thanks Ms.Beckham.”

“Chocolate makes you fat. And gives you gout.” Her blonde friend commented refusing to take one, waving her hand.

“Can I take hers then?” Her other friend interjected. Heading towards Cassandra’s bedroom.

“You clearly have enough time to put on a rock concert downstairs, I think you should have enough time to clean your room.” The mother said.

“Realistically speaking, my productivity still needs to be focused in the sound engineering of our music video. Track 2 is still way too loud and flat, plus I finished my entire science project last night-”

“Since, you forgot it was due...” Her blue hair friend interrupted getting shushed. Her mother gave her the ‘get to the point look’,

“I mean come on-how bad could it be?” Cassandra began. The girls all stopped in front of her doorway, the mother swung her door open causing her two friends to recoil in terror, nearly shrieking. The mother had smiled, patting her daughter’s shoulder, leaving outside to get into her car.

“It looks like a herd of wildebeests through a bar mitzvah, after a tornado ripped your bedroom asunder after a-”

“Thanks, Erin. I get it.” Cassandra stated. Suddenly, a huge blast of strong orange scent assaulted their noses, the air grew thicker, making them start to cough. Her blonde friend holding a mini air freshener can, putting it back into her purse.

“Dammit, Izzy. I can taste it now and do you seriously carry that stuff with you?” Erin coughed out.

“Well-I do when I come over he-Ow!” Izzy replied. Cassandra tightly pinching Izzy’s arm and stepping inside her room.

“Just wait for me downstairs, if you guys aren’t going to help.” Cassandra retorted starting to pick up piles of dirty clothes. They all stuck their tongues out at each other, having a quick laugh before both left her to clean. While making her bed, her orange mobile phone with a black case, started buzzing and beeping wildly. She grabbed it from her nightstand. Watching weird messages continuously displayed on her screen. Surrounded by darkness, feeling a sense of floating through space, slipping from consciousness, drifting into another world…
* * *

The little dragon digimon was one of the last ones to arrive, seeing humans for the very first time. Their scent was quite strange and off putting. He blinked trying to hide the sparkle in his eyes. He cautiously approached, the child that he had relentless dreams about, clearing his throat.

“The dragon’s code dictates I must hold myself in high regard and address this tamer, how I would any other.” Dracomon thought with a self assuring nod, promptly kicking Akira’s leg, grinning.

“That should do the trick!”

Tabitha

Tabitha skipped out of school, happily, seeming to be in a world of her own- as she often was. She didn’t care what others thought about herself, she liked who she was. Glancing to her phone, thinking that maybe she should see if some of the others wanted to catch up, someday, she saw the message that was displayed over the screen when she opened up the digi app. Curious, she stopped where she was a moment, pursing her lips in thought. She pressed okay, thinking what could happen if she did, and then stared at the words that appeared on the screen. Go home? That seemed a bit weird. How would the app know if she was home or not, connected to her home network? What sort of event was this, that you had to do something so specific? She stood there deliberating for a time, before she started off home.

Tabitha always walked home from school, often skipping most of the way, today was no exception, as she stopped to pluck a flower now and then as she occasionally did on her walks to and from school. She didn’t think that she was in any hurry, the messages hadn’t said that there was a time limit, besides, she wanted to enjoy things a little. It was always nice to dawdle a bit on the last day of school. The air smelled like freedom.

She happily walked, thinking what the messages could mean, soon coming onto her place. The small apartment was nevertheless homey, some of Tabitha’s art sprawled over the door, and the frame, and she laid a hand over it a moment, as she opened the door. Her mother wasn’t home. That was to be expected… she almost always worked herself to death… sighing softly, she crouched down and stroked the fat grey cat, Galahad as he lounged by the door, waiting for attention that he rightly thought was his due.

Looking around the clean house, Tabitha chucked her bag on the couch, making a not to remove it before her mother got home. She got herself a snack (going straight for the cookies, despite the fact she wasn’t meant to) and a drink (Chocolate milk, filling it nearly halfway full of the delicious chocolate syrup), before she headed to her room, setting both the plate and the glass on the night stand. Her room was rather bright and colourful, due partly to the fact that she had painted all four walls with her own artwork, and the bright multi-coloured blanket on her bed.

She settled back, wriggling out of her school clothes and into comfy clothes, before she reached out for her phone, opening the app, connecting to her home network. She was taken aback when a voice came from her phone, and she very nearly dropped it, staring at it. It had never done that before. Had it? She was sure that it had always been written word. She pondered that a moment, and then the screen went black, and she blinked. Had it died? But it had had nearly a full charge… reaching over and plugging it in, she frowned when the charging light didn’t come on.

Mum won’t be able to replace it if it’s broken… . And it would just give her mother more stress than she needed. Tabitha poked the screen. Which made it begin to glow, and she grinned thinking that she had fixed it, but then it seemed like the glow was consuming everything, and Tabitha squealed, going to throw the phone away before the world went black.

She woke to a white curtain, and for a frightful moment she thought that she had gone blind, before she realised that it was soft… and creamy. And warm. And moving. She nearly squealed again, a voice reaching her ears.

”Tabitha! Tabi! Wake up!”. Tiny hands shook her, and for a moment, she wondered if she’d fallen asleep, and her mother had shrunk… she blinked, shaking her head. ”I’m awake, I’m awake!” she mumbled, shaking herself, and sitting up, looking around and blinking. Where was she? Her gaze fell onto the being that had been trying to wake her. ”Wha-?”

Coronamon

Coronamon stood on the edge of the group of digimon, rolling his eyes at the dramatics of it all. Why did they have to go through this? Seemed a bit stupid to him. He scoffed at the little digimon, Terriermon’s, excitement. You’d think the little twit had never had something exciting happen to him. ”"Yes, yes, we know they're here, Terriermon. We are not blind, nor are we deaf" he said weary of the little digimon already.

How long was he going to have to put up with the kids cheerfulness?

As the others made way to their “Partners” Coronamon stayed back, rolling his eyes, arms crossed over his chest. He eventually walked over to Oliva, ”Oi. Ya gonna lay there all day? I ain’t gonna drag your butt along, ya known”
